Does November 5-7 work for you to come to Portland and hang out?? I have 2 beds I can offer, we have a great Mexican place with pretty tasty margs down the street, lots of couch space to yack (NOVomit) on, and take out pizza possibilities.

That's about how far I am behind on everyone else's. I hate it.

Turned out fine. Although they are a pretty formal older couple, that fact that one of her sons and her 2 grandsons (22 and 20) came also made it a bit lighter. We had fun, and had some good conversation catching up.

Sadly, no. I have a work trip to Idaho the 4th-6th and then the remainder is a kid weekend that is so overloaded for all 4 there is no way Jeff could manage it solo .

I don't know WHAT I was thinking but somehow I let both kids try out for the church play and between that, cub scouts and Evan's 2nd degree black belt test, Kendall's soccer and Taylor's college test prep classes, I've lost every weekend until Christmas to a schedule that boggles even my mind. The weekend after Thanksgiving would be the only time I could really even think about it but the kids all have commitments. UGH!

NEC is not a new company. They have been around for a while. Haven't done any specific research to compare their products to other brands, but I would be comfortable with getting a good deal on one of their products.
They may, but I THINK you are referring to NCR, which stands for National Cash Register.

Back before kids, Judy and I went on a short-term mission trip to rural, Appalachian Kentucky. One expression we learned is that when company shows up unexpectedly you say, "I'll just knock a tater on the head, 'n churn".

Millie, I've heard of NEC and think it is an okay brand. It's probably not as well known as Sony or others, and I don't know where Consumer Reports would rate it, but it isn't a "fly by night" company.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Tag Fairy decided to put that saying up as your tag?!? Thank you Glenn for the info. about the brand of our new t.v.

Millie, we've had some NEC things over the years. It's an ok brand. Not top of the line but not horrible either, decent.

I really appreciate the feedback, it makes me feel so much better. Incidentally...I found out my DH's friend said he would give our money back for any reason we weren't happy with the t.v., not a bad deal if you ask me.

i think im going to try that sometime, just show up at a friend/relative house and say were here for dinner, and make it seem like we talked about it and they invited us over.

You should have seen my act of heroism!! I asked the 2 big boys to put the leaves into the table, and my little guy runs over and starts putting the table end down. He didn't see the 3 bottles of wine sitting there, 2 of which were on the part on the wrong side of the fold down. THey went sliding off, but at the last second I leaped over (after a glass and a half!) and grabbed them- preventing a serious aisle spill.

Your reflexes rock lady!! It's called mommy reflexes, I think all of us mom's from time to time are able to share a story or two about grabbing something in mid fall and astonishing the entire room. <--- The looks on their faces every time!

HE JUST FLEW AWAY. The guy who is taking the van into get looked at - (bad transmission) came in for a few; we were showing him the bird and he flew off Mik's hand in the house. We scooped him back up and let him go outside, and he made it to the nearest tree. Hope he makes it.

I remember working at a really big store out in Southern Calif. that had windows that stretched all the way across the front with reflective film on them...we had a bird hit the window so hard one time we thought someone shot a dang cannon outside! No joke! We couldn't for the life of us figure out what made such a loud noise until we looked at the window and could actually see the entire and I mean the entire outline of dust the bird left on the window! It almost like seeing a chalk dust outline of the poor thing!
I know your all hating me for laughing right now...but wait before you share the hate....All us girls ran outside to check on the poor bird and would you believe it?!? He was gone! This dang bird actually got up and flew away! They are resilient little suckers!

Of course I can post pictures of my efforts. But that means that I have to start them first. The bag project in its first incarnation stopped after the second bag. So I did not really have to many that I needed to get rid of. One I used myself and the other I gave to Katharina. Mine was used so much that it started to disintegrate, I think the fabric was too soft for the handles. Katharina still has hers I think. So once I get started, I will first make one for myself and then a new one for Katharina as well. After that I thought they would make good gift wrappers which can afterwards be used... Hmmm, I might actually make some with a christmas theme, that would be a neat idea!!

Can't wait! I love to see other people's projects.

I agree with the others... NEC isn't top of the line. But it isn't basement no name either. If it was a great deal you should be OK with it.

OMGAWRSH!! You are NOT going to believe what I just did!!! Well, a little earlier...

I get this phone call at 6:00...

I had invited my DH's Aunt her BF, her son, and her 2 grandsons over for dinner, and somehow spaced it out. I completely, 100% thought (and even had it on my calendar written) that they were coming on Saturday night.

So 5 people show up at the door. The meat, by some amazing miracle, was purchased on Monday, but was frozen SOLID!!!!! I had already made sloppy joes for us, so that went back into the fridge, I whipped up a couscous salad, sent Bek to the store for bread (thank Heavens it is within walking distance), steamed a bunch of chard greens I had, and whipped up a huge batch of scalloped potatoes.

It was a good thing they brought 2 bottles of wine, because it was a lengthy happy hour we had while the potatoes cooked, the meat was zapped to thaw, and then grilled outside.

See? D for DOOFUS!!!

WOW.... thank goodness for the wine! 2 bottles of wine+empty stomach=warm & fuzzy inside!

How did you screw up turn out?? Besides being rather embarrassed, it worked out ok last night.

Well it wasn't quite as bad, my hubby reminded me around noon that the guy was coming over. I think it was a selective forgetting on my part, someone I kind of hoped might blow us off.

Instead he shows up late. He's late (and he did call) because the tequila he was bringing got dropped as he was loading his car, broke all over the driveway.

So he had to go buy more

Bear in mind that I had NEVER met this guy before.

He wanted to make tequila smoothies.

I kid you not. I'll give him this, it was a unique hostess gift! His way of increasing his fruit intake.

5 hours later of the Crazy Hondouran going on and on and on to my husband about what a BEAYOUTIFOOLL WOOOMAN he has, spilling one said tequila smoothie, and a bad video of Jeff and I tangoing around the kitchen, we packed him off.

Nice guy (college roommate of Jeff's, a long, very random story) but OY! Based on Jeff's description I was expecting James Bond meets Rico Suave. Instead I got....Ricky Ricardo...who thinks he's Rico Suave.

Late was good though, we were not ready had he been on time!

Now I can only hope he forgets I invited him for Thanksgiving.

No Train, no MCO our trip just reminds me of that movie - driving to Reno, staying the night, parking on base and flying SWA to Las Vegas, Flying Spirit to FLL - (maybe they have a train! ) Staying in FLL, taking a shuttle to Port of Miami in the am on Sunday - Finally sailing away!

Works great for me - I have an event on the 5th, but we are going to Eugene for a Duck's game on the 6th. DS is using my ticket. We could go early, and I could drop the boys off and come up and meet with all of you and then drive back to Eugene. That's about all Jim will be able to take of me meeting with "strangers" for now. It will be a good opener for the peep fest conversation with him!
