Tracy and I had a patriotic moment- we were feelin’ the reverence:

Great DISmeet. Looked like you guys had so much fun. If any of you guys are in chicago sometime, let me know.

Hi Liessa I am back from the world of the sick!!! Yup I spent most of Christmas in bed !!! Luckily my appetite was still good and alos I madfe it for all the Hi Lights of the holiday and then just slept in between !!

Loved the latest DC pix !!! My several attempts at the Lion Mask just didn't turn out !!

Well gotta get some sleep soon !! My bed is calling !!! Can ya hear it !!!:rotfl2:

Hi Rosie!

I did hear that you were not feeling so well. So glad you are better now- I wonder if it was something you ate?

I also read your update last night, and saw that you also had a picture of the Lion King; I thought that was pretty cool. Mine didn't turn out very well at all- I thought yours was WAY better.

Hope you got a good night's rest, Rosie. :goodvibes

Rosie! Glad you are feeling better - now get to bed it's late again!:goodvibes

Liesa, prayers for you and your family as you travel and honor your grandfather. Hope you get to spend time with your Aunt.

Thanks, Tammie. I am sitting in the airport right now with my folks waiting for our flight out. (With my new toy) I will only have a couple of days in Calif. and I AM looking forward to seeing the side of the family that I only VERY rarely get to see.

:woohoo: I just knew there would be some sort of fix to this issue. :goodvibes

 You'll get use to it.

You'll have to tell us more about these gizzmo's when you have a chance. :goodvibes

Well, it's really a very bad solution, but the best one we could muster given that we'll be in the boonies. The connection is so slow the spiders move faster. but it IS a connection nonetheless.

I'm not even sure WHAT I have yet. Still trying to figure it out. I do know it's called a netbook- Acer. But the rest of the setup is so way above what I understand... I'm just glad I've got such a great provider hubby.

Great pictures! I love DC and can't wait to go back again someday. What a great place for a Dis meet. :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! I sure had fun there- more with the people than anything, but finding those artsy-fartsy shots was kinda fun too- which I'm actually NOT very good at yet.

Ha!! I really like that photo too. Just silly DISFun! Doesn't katmark live near Chicagy?? I think so!

It is fitting that this last installment, before I take off for Disneyer pastures, is filled with good folks who had followed the planning of my dream for over a year. Not only was our little clique dripping with patriotic exuberance, but also with the effects of the humid DC summer weather. It was roasting hot as we made our way back to the train, which seemed 10 times further than when we were all going TO our destination. We had a totally gross out moment when, as we were dying of thirst, stopped at a water salesman plying his wares from his RastaVan. Just as Tracy was about to grab an ice cold thirst quencher from the barrel, he let out this hacking TB-infested sounding cough all over the bottles of water. Tracy’s hand jerked back faster than roaches skitter when the lights are turned on. Personally, I found it pretty hilarious, and laughed all the way to the next water hocker. Of course, they don’t let water bottles into the subway, so I ended up throwing half of it away as we descended back into the deep bowels of DC.

Again asking the locals for directions to our meeting place, the Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda, we managed to find it not too far from the Metro exit. No sign of Ty and her hubby, so we went ahead and got a table and ordered. This place had quite a nice upscale, trendy feel, but was not stuffy or stiff in any way. Truly it was a lovely place and perfect for the grand finale of our day long DISMeet!

A few of us started with wine, and contemplated going with the bottle, but it ended up being less expensive to go with individual glasses. We may have gone with an appie to share as well, but since I am impatient to get on with starting the alphabet all over again, with the Disney content, I am going ahead with this post without the aid of my notes. Ty and DH showed up soon after we ordered, to my great delight! (I think she’s one of the best writers on the boards- be sure to check out her new TR.) I do remember that I ordered an amazing pasta dish with salmon and fresh steamed veggies in a delightfully light cream sauce. It was VASTLY superior to my morning choice, and in general this dining experience was FAR and above what brunch had been. The conversation was great and ranged from Ty’s recent knee injury to Disney, to Rob’s computer woes. But all too soon it was time to order dessert, which meant that our time was coming to an end. A few ordered desserts that really did look yummy, but sadly I was just too full. But what was this?!!?? At the same time the waiter brought out Bananas Foster and Bread Pudding, he brought out FREE ice cream-filled chocolate eclairs!! AH, the perfect dessert for those of us who were too stuffed for a full-sized portion. Eclairs are GREAT, but free eclairs with dark choco drizzled on top is even BETTER!! But not quite as good as the company:

Sadly, it was time to say good-bye and retrace our steps back to the Daily Grille where we started our day out hours before. Tracy and Rosie and I would have LOVED to have stayed on together for hours and hours, but Ball of Wax showed up, and was anxious to get home. It was fine, I was really there to visit her as well. The next couple of days seemed to fly by as well, and in that time I was able to take in Mt. Vernon, visit an old high school friend, listen to my sister’s family fight and bicker, DIS a lot, call all the DISer’s I’d be meeting up with soon and losing my camera. Remember that??!! Well, here’s the part of the story I hadn’t told any of you besides Mary…

Mt. Vernon was quite a day! It started off in the restaurant where my aunt treated my sister and me to a really nice lunch. Best part?? The mint julep I enjoyed with my appetizer of bruchetta. It was VERY tasty and VERY strong. My sister tried to hork some, but gagged on her first sip. I guess you either like bourbon, or you don’t.

So, feeling rather light (and dingy) we toured around saw some amazing colonial everything. Know what they called the outhouse?? Ready??

"The Necessary".

http://www.history.org/Foundation/journal/Autumn02/necessary.cfm

Ummmmm. Yeah, I think so!! Well, I visited the modern day necessity, and left my camera there. With as much bourbon as I had coursing through my veins, it’s a miracle I remembered to zip my pants up. About halfway home I realized I did NOT have it anywhere. As soon as I got home, I immediately (how’s that for a redundancy?) called out there, and thankfully someone, who was less loopy, had turned it in!! Thank heavens!! I really was going to run out and but a new one that day, because there was ZERO way I was going to go on a 12 day trip to Disney without one!! So, crisis averted, I packed up, made my breakfast for the next morning, packed up for my BIG DAY, and slept well.

And now that we're at the end of my happy pre-Disney trail, I'll wish you all a Magical Day and Happy New Year!!

Next up…. A is for Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand , She’s Off!!

yeah for communications! I've missed a LOT of chatter but am actually caught up. :cool1:

I'm missing WAY a lot of chatter most every where I go these days, but I am caught up- mostly. The holidays are hard on everyone's posting.

DC looks like it was a blast!

Glad to hear your are back :surfweb:

It truly was! You know, I think there are a fair amount of you Texans to get a Meet together- you should shoot for one; they are a lot of good old fashioned fun. I'm baaaaaaaaa-----aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

OMG

You made my night

:lmao:

I never really thought of it in those terms before- I'm laughing so hard I'm shaking my aunt and uncle's couch I'm keeping cozy for the night. :lmao::lmao:

Wish Jordan was around, I'd try and get a meet set up...

Well, what a wonderful DISmeet! It seems these times are always so short! Sounds like you had a gr-r-r-eat time at Mt. Vernon ;) I'm glad the crisis was averted and you got your camera back. Refresh my memory - who is TY (sorry, I have missed her somewhere) I would love to read her talented TR!

Safe Travels!

Oh, and Camille! Nice to see you back from Christmasland!:santa:

Ok, I had to go back and do a little research on "The Necessary" for fear someone wouldn't believe me- so I went back and inserted a link AND corrected the name. It's not the Necessity, but rather the Necessary. Either way, DUUUUUUUUUH, it was both.

It was a great day!! Every minute of it. Even when those schmucks were ditching me in the caverns of the museum. (j/k, ya'll!)

I can officially say that the POC is REALLY, really dead now. It is stuck open and the camera shop told me that it'd cost more to fix it than to just buy a new one. So, after I get settled, and find a job, I'll buy a new DSLR. And take a photography class. I am excited. A lot.

Ty is disneyaddicted. She's a very funny authoress- far better than yours truly. ;)

SUCH a Jordan moment

on that note. Well, not really...but kind of.

There is a knock off version of the North Face brand called...South Behind (ok, not behind...Butte minus the "e").

College kid trying to be funny, tag line "never stop relaxing" (versus the never stop exploring). Kid get sued by North Face, makes the news, somehow settles, still is selling the brand. Jeff finds it funny, wants a shirt as he doesn't own any North Face stuff anyway. E's want to get it for him for xmas.

Go to order it.

It's backordered.

No date on when it will be in.

Email them and long story short, no clue. Me, not willing to pay for some random open ended order that was too expensive to begin with, and not have it here in time.

I"m in the car and tell the E's about the situation. One of them pipes up

"You mean the South Butt(e) is backed up?"

I have never laughed so hard in my life. Almost caused an accident.

Made me miss Jordan.

STOP. IT!!!!

I am laughing so hard now, that my snorting is going to wake up the house. Seriously, that is so funny I may actually HAVE an accident!

and totally a J moment!! I love it!

This story made my week! I've never heard of South Butt(e), but am certainly going to look for it now! :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

And don't feel too badly, Tammie... I get punchy around 11:30 too.

They are always shorter than we would like them to be. Although, Pat and I did have a nice long one, we had to! I was afraid to try and drive with the effects of the Tequila in my system from the really STRONG margs we were served! :scared1:  I wasn't taking any chances I was remotely DUI when driving her back home. :sad2:

Oh and Tammie... Ty is a great writer, she usually has me cracking up every time I read her. She's really sweet and should truly start writing classes to be the great author I know she's suppose to be some day. :goodvibes I'd read her books! :thumbsup2

First.....:rotfl2: As for the POC.... I'm excited for you to get what you really want and to take classes. It's something I've always wanted to do myself.

STOP. IT!!!!

Now that's down right funny girl!!! I've never heard that before! :rotfl: I've said...Blonde roots tickling my brain, or I'm having a blonde moment, but not this! Too cute!

This story made my week! I've never heard of South Butt(e), but am certainly going to look for it now! :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Very funny story, kids say the darndest things.

Liesa, I can see how your netbook changes your life! Haven't seen you online so much for a long time! :goodvibes Well, it might also be due to the fact that your are travelling and have lots of downtime waiting and such. :confused3 I hope your trip will bring you some good moments as well, even though it is for a sad occassion.

I am impressed, one alphabet until you get to Disney and you even managed to get through it within 2010!! Perhaps we should start a contest and guess on how many alphabets you will run through until this TR is completed? ;) My guess would be 7.5 alphabets. :thumbsup2

I can absolutely understand your shock about the camera! I once left a camera on an island (in a dressing room) off the coast at Vancouver the day before I was going to leave on a two weeks thrip through the Canadian mountains... Fortunately I was staying with friends and they lend me their camera while my camera was shipped to their house. I met up with them again before I returned to Germany so we could swap cameras. :sad2:

Are you sure you want a DSLR? While they take wonderful pictures, they are a hassle to carry around. I have a rather high end point and shoot and it takes pretty wonderful pictures, but is tiny and easily fits into my pocket. I am sure I take many more pictures because it is so easy to carry around than if I would have a better camera.

You got to meet Ty! Very few things on these boards have made me laugh as hard as her post about the Home Depot Mickey Head Caper that she and Reece pulled off a few years ago. ;)

I hadn't even heard about North Face till the other day so the whole thing wood have been lost on me ..BUTTE now I am:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
