OOOHHH ok I'm a huge dork! I saw that in an earlier post and didn't realize it was her screen name. DUH!!! :headache:

First.....:rotfl2: As for the POC.... I'm excited for you to get what you really want and to take classes. It's something I've always wanted to do myself.

 :lovestruc I miss Jordy.

Very funny story, kids say the darndest things.

I am too, but now am second guessing myself--- after Magdalene chimed in with a very good point. Hmmmm... .what to do? what to do?? Either way, I HAVE to get a new one now- the other is beyond toast.

I miss him too, so much.

They sure do! :lmao:

I'll have to finish a bit later in my replies... they are calling breakfast...

but I did address the last one before I ran out of time.

Liesa, I can see how your netbook changes your life! Haven't seen you online so much for a long time! :goodvibes Well, it might also be due to the fact that your are travelling and have lots of downtime waiting and such. :confused3 I hope your trip will bring you some good moments as well, even though it is for a sad occassion.

I think it's mostly becuz I have a bit of extra time while traveling. I don't think I'll be on a lot more than I have been the last month, since I only have the 5 gigs. I would burn through that pretty quickly if I was on here as much as I'd really love to be.

I am impressed, one alphabet until you get to Disney and you even managed to get through it within 2010!! Perhaps we should start a contest and guess on how many alphabets you will run through until this TR is completed? ;) My guess would be 7.5 alphabets. :thumbsup2

It impresses me too that it worked out perfectly!! I did NOT intend or plan it, but am pretty stoked it worked out that way.

Now ya'll have your work cut out for you to ge this thing up to 250 pages before I start over again. (LOL! j/k)
I can absolutely understand your shock about the camera! I once left a camera on an island (in a dressing room) off the coast at Vancouver the day before I was going to leave on a two weeks thrip through the Canadian mountains... Fortunately I was staying with friends and they lend me their camera while my camera was shipped to their house. I met up with them again before I returned to Germany so we could swap cameras. :sad2:

It was shocking! I was in a total panic, and had started looking for Best Buys around town. I was absolutely cringing about the cost it was going to run me. I was already starting to think about what I was going to have to forego at Disney. EEK!

Are you sure you want a DSLR? While they take wonderful pictures, they are a hassle to carry around. I have a rather high end point and shoot and it takes pretty wonderful pictures, but is tiny and easily fits into my pocket. I am sure I take many more pictures because it is so easy to carry around than if I would have a better camera.

Well, now I'm not. I can totally see how it would be a PITA. I wonder if I should take a pre-purchase class now? Glenn, any opinions?? GB??

I love our nation's capital! The fact that most of the museums and the zoo are free to get into, it makes it a fun and frugal place to be! I remember going to the capital and seeing the WWII memorial. Just seeing it made me cry. My Grandfather fought in the war and I remember stories he used to tell my dad. So much sacrifice. I'm so glad they put up that memorial even if it took them so long.

I cannot wait for your first letter in DISNEY!!!!

You got to meet Ty! Very few things on these boards have made me laugh as hard as her post about the Home Depot Mickey Head Caper that she and Reece pulled off a few years ago. ;)

I totally remember that whole thing! VERY funny stuff!

Wow, so much to catch up on! (Look at that! Still finding prepositions to end sentences with. :))

Anyway, DC looks great! We love taking day trips there. And the Metro is by far the best way to get around town. My sons tend to think of the subway as an attraction in and of itself. They'll ride the whole way with their faces up against the glass. Never mind that you can't see anything other than the occasional flourescent lights.

Anyway, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. It looks like a great day (and yes, free museums are awesome, too). WWII Memorial was a great choice.

Free eclairs = WIN :woohoo::cool1:

Who knew that upon coming in here, I'd get valuable history lessons! I never knew the outhouse was called the "Necessity". But it does make a lot of sense. However, George Washington also fought in a F&I War battle at Fort Necessity. I'd always thought that name meant something else. Now I must view these historical events in a new light.

POC camera thoughts... I just got my wife a new DSLR for her birthday, and she hasn't stopped raving about it. Is it heavier? Yes. But for her, that was just an excuse to find another bag to carry it in (she does love her bags). I'd say a good point-and-shoot is all you need if you want nice, quality pictures to record events and scenes. If you want to be able to play with camera settings and learn about how light and motion affect the photography, the DSLR is the way to go. So it depends on how much of a camera geek you are.

Being an 11 out of 10 on the geeky scale, my wife and I love the DSLR.

I hadn't even heard about North Face till the other day so the whole thing wood have been lost on me ..BUTTE now I am:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I hadn't either! isn't that a creative play on words!

Me too!! I love that my sister lives there, and I actually get to visit there occassionally! Another good memorial to see is the Roosevelt. That one really captured his life very well, and is very artsy.

Should be up by early next week!

SUCH a Jordan moment

on that note. Well, not really...but kind of.

There is a knock off version of the North Face brand called...South Behind (ok, not behind...Butte minus the "e").

College kid trying to be funny, tag line "never stop relaxing" (versus the never stop exploring). Kid get sued by North Face, makes the news, somehow settles, still is selling the brand. Jeff finds it funny, wants a shirt as he doesn't own any North Face stuff anyway. E's want to get it for him for xmas.

Go to order it.

It's backordered.

No date on when it will be in.

Email them and long story short, no clue. Me, not willing to pay for some random open ended order that was too expensive to begin with, and not have it here in time.

I"m in the car and tell the E's about the situation. One of them pipes up

"You mean the South Butt(e) is backed up?"

I have never laughed so hard in my life. Almost caused an accident.

Made me miss Jordan.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I needed that today!!! Thanks for the belly laugh ( I did snort a bit too)

I am so bummed that we missed out on the rest of the day! I would have LOVED to have seen the white house. I've never seen it in real life. Only in pictures.... Bubba and I were talking about our DC trip and actually would like to make another trip out there. This time we'd make it a 2 night stay rather than a one nighter! Too bad all those wonderful people won't be there though. Oh well c'est la vie. CAN'T WAIT to hear about your Disney adventures!!!

Happy New Year!!!!

You ARE the master at that.

Anyway, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. It looks like a great day (and yes, free museums are awesome, too). WWII Memorial was a great choice.

It seems like every time I go there, I end up at the American History; it was good to go to (and I do love it, and could spend weeks in there!). So, it was fun to see one of them that I hadn't before. next time, I'd love to the Botanical Gardens, and spend more time in the Natural History.

Free eclairs = WIN :woohoo::cool1:

They were free choco eclairs, my friend. Those are almost as good as brown sugar and cinnamon pop tarts. Or bbq ribs.

Who knew that upon coming in here, I'd get valuable history lessons! I never knew the outhouse was called the "Necessity". But it does make a lot of sense. However, George Washington also fought in a F&I War battle at Fort Necessity. I'd always thought that name meant something else. Now I must view these historical events in a new light.

yes, I found a bunch of articles on that one too. It's easy to get sucked into reading those links once you get started. Sometimes what happens in a "necessary" becomes VERY historical.

So, that's one vote FOR a DSLR, and one vote for "their too much of a PITA". I love the idea of being able to capture better night shots, better action shots, and crisper nature content.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I needed that today!!! Thanks for the belly laugh ( I did snort a bit too)

These are the things that threads are made of. doesn't get any better than that. :dance3:

I am too!! I would think I'd be back in DC within a couple of years; maybe something would work out then. And I definitely think you need to spend 2 nights, possibly even 3!

Disney adventures coming up early next week!

Liesa, I am so hopelessly far behind that I can't even think of catching up. We'll be out tomorrow at wrestling; Thursday is my birthday and we're going to dinner, Friday is New Year's Eve...well, you get the picture.

I PROMISE to stay more up to date as you get to the Disney portion.

I miss you, friend.

I do understand, kathy! The last couple weeks have been pretty slow around here, and since I won't even be home until Thursday at midnight, the soonest I can get an update up will most likely be early next week- so plenty of time to catch up.

Well, I'm catching up after the holidays, so bear with me as I go back aways!

Party went fine. Bek played guitar and another gal her age played violin for our carol singing time. Then we just sat by our fire and talked and talked.

Sounds wonderful!

Earlier on Glenn and GB figured out what Cynthia had done with the new link. The letters DO re-arrange into a word that was ummm....rather thematic in the PTR. Can you see it?? I'll let you guess first.

Hmmm.... ****? Does it have to use all the letters? Oh wait, I think I get it...

Maybe he was a podiatrist? :lmao:

Or a foot fetish-ist?:rotfl2: The are quite pretty;)

Just wanted to ask if you'd all pray for my 'tude today, and the rest of the week. I lost my last grandparent today, which means my parents will likely not be able to make it up here. After all the anticipation and excitement, and work I've done to make it such a special time, I am truly bummed out. I did not know my grandfather very well during the last years, but it is still hard to see my parents go through all of this. Please ask for an attitude adjustment in my heart and peace to reign! Thanks, Friends!

So sorry to hear about this. I know I'm late on it, but I'm saying a prayer anyway.

So, tell me what you know... Cannon or Nikon?? 3000 series good enough? I"m thinking I don't need the video capability. $499 a good price?? [/QUOTE]

I've got the Nikon 3000. Honestly, I wish I'd have bumped up to the 5000. $499 is about as cheap as you'll get it. (the 3000, that is)

That will be the first thing I buy with my new job if I don't get it.

Have you shared anything about the new job possibility yet? If so, I missed it. Love to hear what you've got brewing!

There have already been some teary eyes, as we contemplated her stocking that won't be hung this year. My family has also seen far too many passings this year.... Despite, we have each other and all that He provides. We are well.

Amen

Get it?!! S.T.R.A.N.G.E.R.S!! I thought Cynthia was SO clever!!

Ooh, I did finally get it. Although it would be fun to see what else we could make out of those letters!

And yes!! I got an NetBook! An cute little Acer jobbie that will surf and post just great!! I'm so stinkin' stoked!! But that's not all... Mike also got us hooked up with a Verizon plan, an antennae, wireless router, and a USB modem. I'll be connected even in my car!! It's not exactly the iPhone I wanted, but it's a start to being ready to move in- first things first.

Awesome!

This place had quite a nice upscale, trendy feel, but was not stuffy or stiff in any way. Truly it was a lovely place and perfect for the grand finale of our day long DISMeet!

Sounds wonderful! Wish I could have been there!

I like it. So proper sounding. Did they come up with this before or after "the crapper"?:lmao:

Next up…. A is for Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand , She’s Off!!

Yaaaaayyyy!!!

No date on when it will be in.

Isn't it great?! The kid is from St.Louis, so it's big here. I can probably find you one at a local store and ship it to you if you are still wanting to get him one.

Email them and long story short, no clue. Me, not willing to pay for some random open ended order that was too expensive to begin with, and not have it here in time.

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time!!!!:rotfl2:

Liesa, here's their logo - its the exact opposite of North Face. And funnily enough, when you turn the North face logo upside down, it does sort of resemble an abstract... butte;)

Really good point Magdalene. Liesa, you ought to go to a good camera store and chat up the sales people. They are usually pretty knowledgeable. (Then go buy it online cheaper, of course!)

All caught up. U had some great updates!! Hurray, you are almost on the road to Disney!!

Aren't we the busy bee? I thought you had a busy weekend and you have been updating like crazy. Once again, I skimmed but I had to use the links to catch up. FYI your W wicked fun dis meet link is broken. :headache: ;) Although I have already read that update.... :rolleyes1

What great pictures from DC... free museums? OH YEA! I am ashamed to say that I have never made it to DC....:sad2:

I love the picture of 'Jordan' on the subway.... That is TOO funny! PEEP!

I forgot you had a second meet planned for the evening... Sounds like you guys picked a great restaurant!

The necessary? :worship::worship: :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I wonder if you secretly wished your camera wouldn't be found so you could go out and buy a nice shiny one? :confused3 :rotfl::rotfl:

DISNEY, HERE WE COME! popcorn::popcorn::

That logo is really funny! :rotfl2: North Face was really stretching to sue on that one!

I also remember the great LGMH caper! I had forgotten all about that - :lmao: Too funny!

I am too, but now am second guessing myself--- after Magdalene chimed in with a very good point. Hmmmm... .what to do? what to do?? Either way, I HAVE to get a new one now- the other is beyond toast.

So sorry for creating more confusion! I think it really depends how much you want to be able to play with different settings etc. Even some of the better small cameras give you a certain freedom to change settings. And some come with really good zoom lenses as well. My ex-BF got one with a wonderful 10x optical zoom. And many have great night time settings as well. Here in Germany many magazines publish test reports on cameras and articles on what is important to look out in cameras. When I got my new one I spent some time researching what I really want and need and what prize I was willing to pay. And even with a small camera it makes sense to actually learn how to use it and play around with the settings.

My camera is from the Sony T-series - my most important feature was that it would be small. Also at that time it was one with the best shutter speed (some digital cameras take ages to finally take that picture) and I like it that the lens does not come out of the camera since my previous camera died when the lens hit a railing and then would no longer move in or out.

The one my ex-BF got was a Panasonic Lumix and I really liked that camera as well, mainly for its zoom ability and for all the different settings it had.

Now ya'll have your work cut out for you to ge this thing up to 250 pages before I start over again. (LOL! j/k)

That's another 110 pages!! :scared1:

ok, I guess j/k means just kidding... what a relief! But then, I guess by the time for the start of the third alphabet we will be in Part 2... :rolleyes1

Well, I'm catching up after the holidays, so bear with me as I go back aways!

Take your time... Tim tells me the W link is broken, sorry about that... I'll have to go back now and find it and fix it.

Or a foot fetish-ist?:rotfl2: The are quite pretty;)

It was so odd to be creeped out and flattered at the same time.

So sorry to hear about this. I know I'm late on it, but I'm saying a prayer anyway.

Thanks!! Both the memorial and military burial were absolutely beautiful. small and subdued, but very nice. He was a Master Mason, so got a spiel from a contingent that came from his Lodge. Then at the Veterans' Cemetery he was given a 12 gun salute- i was really honored to get one of the shell casings.

I've got the Nikon 3000. Honestly, I wish I'd have bumped up to the 5000. $499 is about as cheap as you'll get it. (the 3000, that is)

It will take me some time to earn the money to buy ANYTHING, so I have plenty of time to gather info and make an intelligent decision. (no comments, tim)

Have you shared anything about the new job possibility yet? If so, I missed it. Love to hear what you've got brewing!

Not yet.... the move out date is Jan 6, and I assume we'll move in sometime shortly after that. THEN, I can think of pursuing that job.

Ooh, I did finally get it. Although it would be fun to see what else we could make out of those letters!

so creative, huh??

Sounds wonderful! Wish I could have been there!

Me too!!! I mean I don't wish I was there- I was. I wish you had been there.

I like it. So proper sounding. Did they come up with this before or after "the crapper"?:lmao:

Hmmm... good question. That one happens to be my favorite word!!

Liesa, here's their logo - its the exact opposite of North Face. And funnily enough, when you turn the North face logo upside down, it does sort of resemble an abstract... butte;)
southbutt.jpg

Very funny!! I don't htink you even have to flip it upside down to see the butter.

Really good point Magdalene. Liesa, you ought to go to a good camera store and chat up the sales people. They are usually pretty knowledgeable. (Then go buy it online cheaper, of course!)

I will!!

Woohoo! It's Disney time!

Glad you got the camera back.

That would have been catastrophic.
