The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

AWWW don't worry about coming around... a lot of us don't. :rolleyes1

Anyway... I love school. They teach you a bunch of 'stuff' and you won't use 90% of it. Once you get into a certain area, you'll forget the rest of it. :lmao:

Impotence for valium? I need someone to write me a script for that. :rotfl::rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:

Yes, the touring will be different, but it can be done...with everyone still remaining friends. Pick a few events and meals that the group will do together and let everything else be "on your own". Still, you're right, you won't be able to get as much done...but just enjoy it -- you'll never be able to have this group, with kids at these stages, together like this again. Take a deep breath and live in the moment.

(Then come back for your girls trip and hit all of the places you missed. ;))

Good point, Glen. I was getting all defensive for Liesa's trip plans that aren't made yet. :rotfl2:

The family will never be quite what it is in that moment again. I agree with the idea of just meeting up for big events but not really trying to do everything all together - it is too hard to connect touring styles.

Liesa, I've been surprised how often you've been here, considering your busy life. In fact, I haven't been able to catch up as much as you've been able to write. :goodvibes

Yikes! Andrew's thumb escapade sounds painful. I guess it was a mixed blessing for you. :rotfl2:

I think an occasional hiccup in testing only serves to keep you sharper - so here's do a great grade on the next one, and no killing of children! :thumbsup2

Your trip is shaping up interestingly. It is definitely a planning challenge these days - I would empower them to make their FP+ ressies after you have yours and try to overlap the times you already have. It would be hard to get for that many people, but it will probably evolve a bit by next year, who knows. :confused3

Impotence from Valium? :rotfl2: Isn't that what Viagra is for? :confused3

Two weeks down. :cool1: Woo hoo! Hang in there. You are getting smarter by the moment! :thumbsup2

Week 2 update....

Which brings me to a funny little anecdote:

We all know what the term “ADRs” refers to, right?? Those handy little passports to all manner of delicious and delectable eats all over Disney property. Replete with confirmations, numbers, stats, etc..

So, I'm sitting in class and the term "ADR" pops up right during the Acute Pain Management lecture, and I'm like HUH?! Why on earth would the instructor want us to be concerned about dinner reservations? What could eating possibly have to do with medications and side effects, or anything else related to medical care??

Naturally, I started day-dreaming about my trip, mostly about how I'm going to come up with the cashola to pull this trip off, while at the same time trying not to go into debt getting through school (which would probably put the trip off some months). I can neither confirm nor deny that my mind might have wandered off a bit to chocolate milkshakes too.

Anywhoooo, after deep contemplation about money and possibly milkshakes, I was again disturbed by the fact that the term “ADR” was being thrown around and was sadly not remotely related to good food in fun places.

As a side note, I bet you'd like to know which (real) ADRs I'm putting in the hat... but that's for a later time.

Finally, I got the answer I was looking for, and in case you really care at this point, it is the abbreviation for Adverse Drug Reactions. Those are really bad. Just to make sure you understand. You know, things like GI bleeding for aspirin, bone fractures from Prilosec and impotence from Valium. Good thing I don't have to worry about that, because I may need some by the end of this term. Guys, stay mentally healthy, k?

Well, that sums up Week 2. I got my Clinical Assignment this week as well, and will be spending about 40 hours in a Long Term Care Facility over the term, and also get to watch a surgical procedure, from the time the patient checks in to when s/he is either discharged or transferred to his or her room. I'm especially excited for that!!

Now, go do the right thing.

Which is a nice segue to my reminding you LURKERS out there, that you are very welcome here. Don't be shy! Introduce yourself!

Ah yes the Acronym Confusion Syndrome. I get dyslexic since Our Annual Review Date and dining reservations are close enough. :lmao:

I had a similar issue in Middle School. It was History class and we were studying the Middle East and the teacher kept saying Nasser but I heard NASA. Since I was a little lost anyway in that class I really couldn't figure out what the space program had to do with the Middle East. :rotfl2:

I really think it was YEARS later when it finally dawned on me..... :rolleyes1

Good luck with Week 3. :thumbsup2 You got this!!!!

I have noticed... :sad2::)

I think in nursing anyway, it depends a lot on which specialty you go into. And you will also have a computer terminal or smart phone always available. ;)

You moron! I said impotence is a SIDE EFFECT of Valium! If you stay mentally healthy, you won't need it!

Excellent points, all. Our family is very much in a transitional state, and will be for a few years yet. I still have a "little one" who probably makes the most of the magic, and after she's gone, that will be it. We will only have trips left that will be "adult" trips with a VERY different feel to them with altogether different activities and priorities.

UNTIL GRANDKIDS!!! :woohoo::woohoo: BRING IT!!

Liesa, I've been surprised how often you've been here, considering your busy life. In fact, I haven't been able to catch up as much as you've been able to write. :goodvibes

We had a speaker come in on Thursday who spoke on strategies to keep us from burnout and breakdowns. One thing she said that was important to do was to build into our days (EVERY DAY!) at least 30 minutes of some activity that makes us feel happy, that rejuvenates us. I am trying to get over to the college gym which has racquetball courts to get some exercise. But honestly being HERE makes me MOST happy. It truly de-stresses me to come here and talk about my Happy Place. Of course I do pray and take time out to just "get quiet", but visiting with my friends here does help to relax me and re-charge me. :)

Yikes! Andrew's thumb escapade sounds painful. I guess it was a mixed blessing for you. :rotfl2:

:lmao: Yes, I guess you could look at it that way.

I think an occasional hiccup in testing only serves to keep you sharper - so here's do a great grade on the next one, and no killing of children! :thumbsup2

I definitely am putting WAY more effort into this one, and won't let up a couple days before the exam like I did last time. Time to get my game on!!

Your trip is shaping up interestingly. It would be hard to get for that many people, but it will probably evolve a bit by next year, who knows. :confused3

I know I need to research a lot more exactly HOW this new FP+ system even works. I have a vague idea, but that's not goint to cut it. Trying to be the coordinator for every little detail isn't going to even be reasonable. I like the way you phrase it: "Empowering them to..." Good call!

Impotence from Valium? :rotfl2: Isn't that what Viagra is for? :confused3

Two weeks down. :cool1: Woo hoo! Hang in there. You are getting smarter by the moment! :thumbsup2

The Davis Guide says that a side effect of Valium is impotence. So, yeah, I suppose if you need Valium, you may need Viagra too. ;) :lmao:

I guess if you need the Viagra in the first place, a nice dose of Valium might be helpful. Which would make you need Viagra... oh dear, not a nice cycle to be in.... eh?? :rotfl2:

Ah yes the Acronym Confusion Syndrome. I get dyslexic since Our Annual Review Date and dining reservations are close enough. :lmao:

I had a similar issue in Middle School. It was History class and we were studying the Middle East and the teacher kept saying Nasser but I heard NASA. Since I was a little lost anyway in that class I really couldn't figure out what the space program had to do with the Middle East. :rotfl2:

Good luck with Week 3. :thumbsup2 You got this!!!!

OH NO! Not the dreaded ARD!!! :lmao: Yeah, about as close as an Adverse Drug Reaction is to eating good food. :rotfl2:

Nasser vs. NASA... so, are you like from the UK or something?? I've always wondered why the Brits pronounce an "er" at the ends of words that end with an "a", which should be pronounced "ah". :confused3 Rosie??????

But yes, that's pretty funny! And funnier that it took you so long figure out the difference! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well, I'm GETTING this... in 8 weeks, I can say, "I've got this!". ;)

Wowzer, that's a lot of info to cover in two weeks!! :faint:

As for not coming around, I get it. My niece is nearing the end of nursing school and she barely has time for her favorite aunt these days and when we do see her she's so drained. I'm glad you're finding time to lurk and give yourself that little break. Although lurking between classes probably contributes to ADD- Acronym Distinction Disorder. ;)

I feel her pain! It's exhausting- especially trying to juggle home life with it all.

And yes! ADD is definitely a REAL problem. ;) I'm sure I'll run into more.

It's me again- the nerdy Nursing Student:

It was so KEWL!!!!! I've always wondered if arterial spray was as dramatic as in the movies. Yes, it is. Housekeeping had fun cleaning blood off the bathroom wall, the procedure room floor, and the chair. So much fun! I could totally do ED (ER) work. Totally.
Ok... I'm sorry for your son, and I'm glad things turned out ok, but your reaction to it all... :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

So was he glad he had a nursing student with him or was he wishing he'd left you at home? :confused3:lmao:

“HEY EVERYONE, LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ALL GOING TO DISNEYWORLD IN OCTOBER OF 2016!!!”
Oh... wow.

I adore my parents! They are the cat's meow, fun to travel with, extremely generous- to a fault even, and love Disney (for the most part) too.

My sister and her family were AP holders at DLR for years while they lived in California, so obviously they love the Disney experience as well, so no qualms there, EXCEPT...

a larger crowd completely changes the dynamics of a trip in general. It completely changes the planning of said trip, and the touring mechanics on top of that. One person says, “Let's get a Dole Whip” while someone else is screaming, “I gotta go!!!”. Seriously, your ride time is easily cut in half when a party reaches critical mass. Tempers flare when some want to go one way and others want to go another. No can seem to decide anything while trying to defer to the group and frankly, general chaos and trip entropy starts to take over as the overarching vibe.
It definitely helps that they're Disney fans and know what they're getting into, but you make a great point. Going with that many people makes planning just that much more difficult. And you're right about how much ride time you're potentially going to be cutting.

OK, back to a prior response you'd give about the Kim Possible at EPCOT: I was sad to hear that is no longer an option. I wish now I'd done it in 2010. Ah well... Clearly, I have some research to do about what will have changed in 6 years. That is FAR too long to be away!
I've seen some good responses to this, but you have nothing to worry about. It was just re-themed to Phineas and Ferb, and quite frankly, I like it much better with Agent P on the case. :thumbsup2

I actually have no desire to eat here at all. I've heard that you can go in around lunch time just to see the place and I'll plan on that. We tend not to do character meals in general, and it seems over-priced for the quality I'm reading about.
It is a better value if you can get FP for lunch for it. Lunch is QS there, and it is actually good quality and IMO a decent value compared to other QS places. Worth considering if you don't want to do a dinner ADR and meet the Beast.

Anyway, NO, I hadn't heard of these bathrooms of fame. I'll put them into my touring plans!! :lmao:
 I've seen you reading TR's. How have you not seen the Rapunzel bathrooms. I thought everybody had been posting pictures of them! :rotfl2:

I guess that's a good thing, but if you can only get 3 at a time... I'm not sure....??
I think it can be a mixed bag. It makes it nice that you can get FP+ for smaller attractions later in the day for just a few minutes away, but the FP+ makes the line for attractions like pirates exponentially longer. I think we waited in line for a good 15 minutes to ride Pirates this last trip... and we HAD a FP+! :headache:

You are all an amazing Cheering Squad! Thanks for you confidence in me....
you-can-do-it-.gif

I'm glad you survived your test, even if the test kid didn't. :lmao:

Hey, that's why we have school. Better to make mistakes and learn from them now.

I cannot comment NEARLY as much as I like to, including multi-quoting like a pro, but I read and see all your pictures, and long for the day when I can join in the banter beyond my own thread. It probably comes across as selfish. Sorry. :sad1:
Yeah... we get it. No big deal. :confused3

I can neither confirm nor deny that my mind might have wandered off a bit to chocolate milkshakes too.
Now I'm thinking about chocolate milkshakes. Thanks. :headache:

Oh gosh... I can just see you standing over in the corner all giddy hoping for some arterial spray. :lmao:

You moron! I said impotence is a SIDE EFFECT of Valium! If you stay mentally healthy, you won't need it!
We all know where his mental health stands... :sad2:

Maybe he needs something that causes impotence... you know, to offset the "longer than 4 hours" they talk about on those tv commercials for those other drugs.:lmao::rotfl2:

I see you're making the most of your Post-Vacation Vacation. Good for you! :rotfl2::lmao:

I am off to class in 10 minutes, and sorry making a cup of coffee comes over replying. You feel special, don't you, Andy??

I get to learn about setting up a sterile field for things like putting in a catheter today...

I"m excited!!

Talk to you this afternoon...

Citrus bath salts sound amazing. Ahhhhh.... :thumbsup2

And much like has already been said, better to biff something up on a test in real life. If we didn't make mistakes, we wouldn't learn anything.

Also? I have a totally inappropriate comment about the Valium ADR. Not DIS appropriate. :rotfl2: But amusing to me, nevertheless.

Ok... I'm sorry for your son, and I'm glad things turned out ok, but your reaction to it all... :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

It was only a flesh wound.

So was he glad he had a nursing student with him or was he wishing he'd left you at home? :confused3:lmao:

Probably a small bit of both. We waited in the ER for.e.VER, and I"m sure he was happy to have company. Especially when A) his phone died and he could no longer talk to his girlfriend, and B) when he got hungry and wanted food.

It definitely helps that they're Disney fans and know what they're getting into, but you make a great point. Going with that many people makes planning just that much more difficult. And you're right about how much ride time you're potentially going to be cutting.

I do have some ideas on how to build in some entertainment that we can all be happy with that isn't ride-related. We'll still have a ton of fun, and well, the TR-Writer in me is always cooking up adventure to write about. :stir:

I've seen some good responses to this, but you have nothing to worry about. It was just re-themed to Phineas and Ferb, and quite frankly, I like it much better with Agent P on the case. :thumbsup2

Excellent news! :cool1: I'm ready to save the world!

:trots off the peruse the BOG Menu:

 I've seen you reading TR's. How have you not seen the Rapunzel bathrooms. I thought everybody had been posting pictures of them! :rotfl2:

I cannot exactly say why these apparently elusive bathrooms have escaped my scrutiny. While I have been reading many a TR, I have not seen any actual pictures. Please, by all means, satiate my curiosity.

WHOA! Now that's a major drawback! 15 minutes to ride THAT is reaching abominable status.

I'm glad you survived your test, even if the test kid didn't. :lmao:

I REALLY need to get a better score on the test... one week from today.

Hey, that's why we have school. Better to make mistakes and learn from them now.

True dat. Let's hope my intelligence makes the appropriate adjustments and doesn't repeat the error. (My definition of intelligence.)

Yeah... we get it. No big deal. :confused3

Still makes me sad.

Now I'm thinking about chocolate milkshakes. Thanks. :headache:

Your welcome. How about caramel cheesecake? Is that better?

Oh gosh... I can just see you standing over in the corner all giddy hoping for some arterial spray. :lmao:

Someone's gotta have a corner on the FUN Market.

We all know where his mental health stands... :sad2:

:lmao: (Tim, you know we love ya.)

Maybe he needs something that causes impotence... you know, to offset the "longer than 4 hours" they talk about on those tv commercials for those other drugs.:lmao::rotfl2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Then Valium may be just what he's after. Or perhaps Melody is the one who needs that. :confused3:rotfl2:

Trust me. There aren't many things on this side of heaven better!

And as much as I do want to be a safe and efficient nurse who cares deeply, I also want to pass this program!

OH, you have NO idea the comments that I have very seriously contemplated spouting off. However, I enjoy this place an awful lot.. :rolleyes1

Good morning, Liesa! I was listening to I Heart Radio while getting ready for work and the musical piece In the Steppes of Central Asia came on and it reminded me of you, so I just had to get on and say "Good Morning! You've got this today!"

Is this where I go to make an ADR for Valium? I'd like some for me and some for the baby. :thumbsup2

Awwww... thank you SO much! :) I was really struggling last night with a bit of a bad attitude, but today went so much better. :) The material is a bit overwhelming, but I just need to keep at it! :teacher:

Yes, but considering the side effects, you may want to consult Julie. ;)
