The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

Is it just you?? Or others as well?

Uh both? :teeth:

My middle son is going with me. However, he won't be joining us. He's my "travel buddy", but our trips are mostly shared solo trips. We may start our days together, do some fastpasses, maybe have lunch together, then he "ditches" me :teleport: And that is totally fine. I took a couple solo trips, then he piped up and asked why he couldn't go too. So he became my travel buddy. He's my guy that was always in the alternative/life skills classes in school instead of regular classes, and has limitations in day to day life, but at WDW he is confident enough to come and go as he pleases, and with room charging he's able to go eat on his own. So I love taking him and letting him run free

That's 8 ADRs that should already have my name reserved. We'll see if they got things right when she calls. Wanna take guesses on how Disney's stats stack up next to mine??

A) 8/8 would be 100%- This is where it should be having extracted the worth of the Crown Jewels from the Super Secret Disney Vacation Account. (We can all pretend that account might someday have that kind of money in it, can't we?)
B) 7/8 would be 88%- Same old, same old
C) 6/8 would be 75%- barely passing Nursing School, or in this case Customer Service 101
D) 5/8 would be 63%- Nope. Not ok. Let's get it right, People!
E) 4/8 would be 50%- a dismal failure on their part.

Give it your best shot! Pick a letter (this IS the ABCs of Trip Planning, remember?) A correct answer gives you 10 points. Bonus points will be added for exact (or closest to) the times she actually gets for us. So, if you want to up your game, add in times for each one. Each correct time gives you 5 points. I'll keep track of points for reals and will keep a running tally of them for future installments of The ABCs of Trip Report Games. There will be surprizes for the Wiener. Maybe even a chicken deener. Surprizes to be given/mailed sometime prior to October 10th. Unless you want something cooler and can wait until after the trip. Sorry, I'm all out of whips.

I'm going with C

Monday Raglan Road 6:00
Tuesday
Wednesday
X Thursday Coral Reef (will skip for food and wine)
Friday Flying Fish - but not until 6:50
Saturday Edison 1:15
Sunday Via Napoli 6:30
Monday Sanaa 12:30
X Tuesday BOG (won't get)
Artist Point 7:00

And since I'm using my work computer and don't have any pictures - here is :dumbo: a dancing Dumbo for the D

Trying for bonus points...

10/10 Raglan Road - 5:45
10/13 Coral Reef - 7:15
10/14 guessing Flying Fish won't be open, so you do Cali Grill at 7:30
10/15 The Edison 1:15
10/16 Via Napoli 6:45
10/17 Sanaa 12:45
10/18 BOG 1:45 and Artist Point 7:45

I'll be losing an amazing woman in my life all too soon.
So sorry to hear.

... just let me know what you'd want to do with us.

Like I'm sure your mother said to you countless times -- "what am I going to do with you?"!

I've known for like EVER that he wasn't going to be going with us on the first bunch of the trip, so what was I thinking?!

Um, even we knew that. You'd posted it here back when you started the ptr. Oh well, a $188 brain freeze.

I'm not sure I understand your contest...is it "will you get the ADR?" or "will you get the ADR for the exact time you want?" I say you'll get all of your ADR's for a time reasonably close to what you want. Those don't look like too difficult ADR requests. Oh, except for Flying Fish, which someone has already pointed out should be closed for refurb.

Sorry to hear about your husband's aunt.

I'm not sure I understand your contest...is it "will you get the ADR?" or "will you get the ADR for the exact time you want?"

Ok, let me be more specific...

1) Do we get all of the places I want including FF? Pick a letter. 10 points (There IS a chance it could soft open and she can swing an ADR at a later time- in which case I'll go back and revise your score. (Makes this interesting don't it?!)

2) NOW, go back and guess times for each one that you think we get on Wednesday or (ONLY in case of FF) later. 5 pointys given for EXACT answers.

3) Did I call for a Boma? 5 points

4) Add a photo... (we'll see who's really reading this.) 5 points

I'm not sure which would be more exciting!

Good a ready to be done with this nonsense!

Hmmm... I think you should be able to get what you want. Aside from Flying Fish if it is going to be closed. So I guess that means I'll need to say B.

Noted.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Where's Timmy?????

Poor Timmy has borne the brunt of this for a long time. Much to our amusement.

Clearly, you weren't.

It was a temporary (expensive) brain fart.

 Nope. No way. No shoe is worth that.

It is when the nearest quality pair of shoes is approximately 4,000 miles away. And you weren't going to get to travel that far for 3 years.

I don't think that's an option anymore. I believe they've done away with the non-expiring option. And even if they hadn't it probably wouldn't be worth it. He might as well just burn a day on the ticket to join you for drinks in EPCOT if he feels so inclined after traveling.

I fear you're right. And yes, I'll have to write it off as a "woulda been nice".

Well, I'm sure you can find a tent and some water wings at Walmart if it comes down to it.

A 25th anniversary (albeit 2 years late) trip for the books.

I'm sorry to hear this. We'll be keeping your family in our prayers through this difficult time.

Thanks, Andy!

And a picture of a Dragon

Perfection! Noted.

an ADR Day in 6 days!! It's coming!!!!! And I'm ready. Been ready for about 6 months, but I'm really, really ready for this.

Ooohh... it's so close, you can taste it!

I should naturally be entitled to each one- you know, like as if I had a private premium deluxe package or something.

Well, of course.

Afterall, some people get transportation packages that seem to be tailor-made just for them.

Doesn't everyone?

Tuesday; 10/11; NO ADR

What?

Wed; 10/12; NO ADR

Again???? What the heck!?!?

Friday; 10/14; Flying Fish; 6:30 (This is my Graduation Dinner!! Whoever is planning on joining us needs to let me or Marv or Pat (@GoofyFan1515 or @Poolrat) know ASAP!!!!

Oh... poop.
I'm seriously thinking of making a fall run.
But that date is definitely out.

Shoot.

You have all been SO great in helping me get through the last 2 years, I want you with me! :D

Aww...

Dinner at Vic and Al's. *****I am still looking for a Dinner Partner(s) for this once in a lifetime event.*****

I would. I really would.
Shoot. Shoot. Shoot.

Give it your best shot! Pick a letter

I'd love to say A.
But I'm going to go with B.

Today I went back and re-checked our airline tickets and flight itineraries. It was a $#!@Fest.

Uh, oh...

Apparently, when I made the reservations, I made one for Mike flying out on the same day. I've known for like EVER that he wasn't going to be going with us on the first bunch of the trip, so what was I thinking?!

Whoops!

I had to pony up to CheapoAir (definitely NOT so Cheapo now) to change his travel date/ticket. $188.

Ouch. :headache:

Ask me what a shoe down the outhouse looks like. I retrieved that shoe

No. I really don't want to know.

from what I understand The Depress leaves 3 hours before departure. True?

True.
Unless you're one of us foreign devils.
Then it's 4 hours.

Which makes me SERIOUSLY wonder if I should add a Boma Buffet to our Thursday morning. Extra bonus points (5): Do I e-mail Brook tonight and have her add it?

Nope.

Like I've already said, I made a MAJOR planning faux pas by putting Mike in charge of planning the Keys Portion of this vacation. So far, not ONE thing has happened. Not one. No transportation plan, no restaurant reservations, no diving excursions booked. Nothing.

And you are surprised by this???

I would fly us from Orlando to Key Largo. It's showing less than $100 pp.

Not bad.

LAST ONE in the Nursing School Program. Ever.

Woot! Did you ever think that day would come?

I met my Preceptor yesterday and he's super chill.

That's good!

I think we're going to get along fine. If not, it's only 12 shifts. Anyone can do that, right.

Right?

Absolutely.

We found out that my husband's aunt is in her last month or so of lung cancer

Sorry to hear this.

And for your D shot...

DSC09411_zpsdbepuv0n.jpg

How about a Daughter Drumming?

Great update!! So first off...yeah I'd be frustrated that after all that planning not being the one to actually BOOK the ADR's. Though you are lucky to have a trusted someone who is vested and ready to do it for you. Hopefully..you get everything that you want. It's funny because it makes me think of getting tickets for my DD's dance recital...those good seats are almost as hard to come by as O'hana during fireworks ADR's....and every time it seems I am not able to be online at the moment they go on sale and have to rely on someone else...sigh. Crossing fingers that it all works out for you.

I'm sure she'll do great. I've made a few changes, but I'm confident there will be some pretty good success on her part. But yeah, I would have liked to have given it a go. Wednesday will be an interesting day!

Your trip pics are awesome...what incredible scenery...and rock climbing...so cool! And I had to laugh because I'd totally be the same way about the "wanting to take over the reigns" for the keys portion of your trip. Ugh. I know I would not be able to relax either until it's done. The only thing I can say that might hopefully make you feel better...the keys is VERY relaxed...I was there a few weeks ago in Key Largo in the height of tourist season in March break with my DS and it is super chill. We had no trouble getting last minute reservations for anything we wanted to do or just walking into the most recommended restaurants and getting a table without waiting long. So if it's any consolation...even if you do nothing you will probably be fine! But I know that not having it planned would be killing me too. Hang in there though!!

Smith Rocks is definitely a beautiful place! I'd never been before, so it was a first time treat. :)

I'm sure things will come together, and we'll have a great time. At the very least I'd like to have our resort booked. Everything else will be fine; it's not like WDW where they FORCE you to have stuff lined up way before. October should be a pretty nice time and not too crowded. THanks for all of your tips and advice! Having never been, I have NO idea what to expect really.

Uh both? :teeth:

My middle son is going with me. However, he won't be joining us. He's my "travel buddy", but our trips are mostly shared solo trips. We may start our days together, do some fastpasses, maybe have lunch together, then he "ditches" me :teleport: And that is totally fine. So I love taking him and letting him run free

Ok, that helps. I will email Brook at add you to our party. :) I'm so super excited!

I totally understand about your son (ours is in the same kind of education path) but really excels in some other ways. We're so proud of his progress despite some social and academic challenges. I expect I'll be letting them go off to do whatever quite a lot on this trip and give them some freedom with some strict guidelines and check-in times. We'll see how it pans outs.

I'm going with C

Monday Raglan Road 6:00

Wednesday
X Thursday Coral Reef (will skip for food and wine)
Friday Flying Fish - but not until 6:50

Artist Point 7:00

And since I'm using my work computer and don't have any pictures - here is :dumbo: a dancing Dumbo for the D

Got it! And very awesome use of creativity!!

I'm going for B - 88% is such a trend with you

Trying for bonus points...

10/10 Raglan Road - 5:45
10/13 Coral Reef - 7:15
10/14 guessing Flying Fish won't be open, so you do Cali Grill at 7:30
10/15 The Edison 1:15
10/16 Via Napoli 6:45
10/17 Sanaa 12:45
10/18 BOG 1:45 and Artist Point 7:45

Noted! And yes, 88% was a great trend. Until group exams. Got stuck with some folks who consistently didn't do nearly that good, so got a dismal 83% on that last exam. :( That puts me at an 89% overall on 40% of my total grade. Not sitting happy right now.

So sorry to hear.

D is for Dream Builders and Deadlines...

VERY nice use of the theme!!

It's been awhile since I've had some real substantive news that's trip-related. But I'm here to present to you today some noteworthy news on that front.

Well today is the first day that I have a clear head. I read this a couple days ago and couldn't understand a word that you said. That's the difference between a head cold and it finally starting to go away.

Imagine getting a full new set of candidates for the election. That'd be about as exciting as...

an ADR Day in 6 days!! It's coming!!!!!

I think the ADRs are more exciting.

Monday; 10/10- Raglan Rd; 6:00

Tuesday; 10/11; NO ADR

Wed; 10/12; NO ADR, but may try the Wave as a walk up OR just go to Market Place

Thursday; 10/13; Getting an ADR at Coral Reef, but may cancel this so we can eat more at F&W (any time Brook can get)

Friday; 10/14; Flying Fish; 6:30 (This is my Graduation Dinner!! Whoever is planning on joining us needs to let me or Marv or Pat (@GoofyFan1515 or @Poolrat) know ASAP!!!! Maybe we can link ressies or just make an ADR for the big group. So far, it's us, Marv, Pat, Tanya (and others?), and possibly Rosie and her Gang.

Saturday; 10/15; The Edison (I am hoping it's open by then!) at Disney Springs; 1:00 Lunch AND (this one's NOT included in the 8 other mentioned ADRs since I don't know how it works yet) Dinner at Vic and Al's. *****I am still looking for a Dinner Partner(s) for this once in a lifetime event.*****

Sunday; 10/16; Via Napoli; 6:30

Monday; 10/17; Sanaa; 12:30 Lunch

Tuesday; 10/18; BOG; 1:00 Lunch AND Artist Point Dinner for 2 at 7:00

Wednesday; 10/19; None

Thursday; Travel- none

Give it your best shot! Pick a letter (this IS the ABCs of Trip Planning, remember?) A correct answer gives you 10 points. Bonus points will be added for exact (or closest to) the times she actually gets for us.

My Answers will be in Magenta.

As far as how many of your ADRs that you get, I will say B) 7/8 because I tried to get a reservation for Flying Fish and they are still not showing open 180 days from today, so you might have to cut that one close or choose somewhere else. Also because you are doing a split stay, I don't think Brooke will be able to make your reservations for BoG and Artist Point until 4/19

Here are my guesses on your times:
Mon 10/10 - Raglan Road 6:00PM, no problem

Thurs 10/13 - Coral Reef 6:00PM, but I would suggest you cancel so that you can eat more at the kiosks.
Fri 10/14 - Flying Fish, I don't think so, since it is not showing open for reservations at this time.
Sat 10/15 - The Edison, 12:50PM. If only you were going 10 days later, you could go to V&A's with Jill, Fran and I! :sad2:
Sun 10/16 - Via Napoli, 6:20PM
Mon 10/17 - Sanaa, 12:15PM
Tues 10/18 - BoG, 1:30PM, Artist Point 7:10PM - This is the day that we will be arriving, probably getting to Disney property about one hour before your reservation.

So, if you want to up your game, add in times for each one. Each correct time gives you 5 points.

OK, did that above.

So for about as much as I have earned on the Chase VISA that I'm putting towards noshing my way through Disney , I had to pony up to CheapoAir (definitely NOT so Cheapo now) to change his travel date/ticket. $188. Down the outhouse. Ask me what a shoe down the outhouse looks like. I retrieved that shoe. I probably won't be retrieving that $188. Disney's coffers are deeper than a Crapistani loo.

Ugh, that's always one of my biggest fears is that I have made the airline reservations for another day and have to scramble to find a place to stay!

On the backend of the trip, Zach and Naripoopaloo are heading back to Portland by themselves on a 1:45 flight- from what I understand The Depress leaves 3 hours before departure. True? If so, that puts them on the bus at 10:45. Time still for a quick swim, and a nice breakfast. Which makes me SERIOUSLY wonder if I should add a Boma Buffet to our Thursday morning. Extra bonus points (5): Do I e-mail Brook tonight and have her add it?

Yes! I say you do it!

Like I've already said, I made a MAJOR planning faux pas by putting Mike in charge of planning the Keys Portion of this vacation. So far, not ONE thing has happened. Not one. No transportation plan, no restaurant reservations, no diving excursions booked. Nothing.

I think this calls for an intervention of refundable reservations, just as a safety net!

If it were up to me (and I'm starting to wonder if I should just take the reins here and at least book some transportation) I would fly us from Orlando to Key Largo.

I'd say go ahead and book something you can cancel with no penalty!

Speaking of points, an extra 5 points to whomever adds a 'D' photo to their guesses. (Only 1 bonus allowed for photos, but add as many as you'd like.)

OK, so I realize that I only get points for one picture, but I realized that I've never posted these pictures online before and I've had them for over three years, so here goes: How about "Dream Suite" for "D" pictures? (Wow! I didn't realize that I had uploaded so many!)

She's 88, and was until Thanksgiving a super avid traveller who has visited more countries than most people will ever get to see. She was a Professor of Microbiology at Oregon Health Sciences University (the biggest major teaching hospital in Oregon) for many years and is one of my biggest cheerleaders and encouragers. I'll be losing an amazing woman in my life all too soon.

I'm so sorry about your aunt. It always seems that the special ones always never have enough time with us. Hang in there!

Ok, let me be more specific...

You what ????? You have me totally confused , :confused3:cool1::rotfl2:I have a while before I can actually start my ressies due to the Resort ressies etc are NOT yet made so I don't get the 10 day bonus thingie , I am checking daily and playing at getting them and not doing well at all.

So what is it that they should grant my every wish to? Let's take a look, shall we??

Lets

This is the bust - Still closed and not committing to ADR. Hopefullly another booking- Cali Grill? Hope we can make it over there since we are arriving that evening.

Remember, anything this weekend is a free-for-all for anyone who wants to join in. We'll be doing the Ditch on Sunday, parks, Trader Sam's, etc... just let me know what you'd want to do with us. You have all been SO great in helping me get through the last 2 years, I want you with me! :D

Going for the obvious C

Extra bonus points (5): Do I e-mail Brook tonight and have her add it?

Left to hammer out...

Yes and 9 am breakfast.

As for now, it's time to put some finishing touches on some studying for tomorrow's exam. LAST ONE in the Nursing School Program. Ever.

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

So sorry to hear about your husband's aunt- She sounds like an amazing woman. Prayers to you and your family.

Oh a D picture....

Here it goes:

I am going with A) since you said you will go back to readjust. I am confident that you will be able to eat at Flying Fish. They closed in February - how long can it take to refurbish a restaurant????

As to times: All times will be the exact times you requested with the exception of BOG which will be 11:45am.

You also called Brook to add Boma (so happy that she can do this for you - having a travel agent does come in handy sometimes!!).

And finally:

DSC09343.jpg

D23 Expo should qualify as a "D"

DSC03204.jpg

And this one has four Ds: Donald Duck and Daisy Duck (oh - and I am covering the Mickey that was on my t-shirt as Donald otherwise refused to be in the picture...).

Ooohh... it's so close, you can taste it!

YAY!!!! Just got off the phone with Brook. A couple of minor tweaks; it won't affect the contest, but there are a couple of surprises!

Doesn't everyone?

Only the rich and famous. WHich leaves me squarely OUT.

Yeah...

Again???? What the heck!?!?

I mean.... Food and Wine, BABY!!! Who needs ADRs when NATW is at hand?! (Noshing Around the World)

Oh... poop.
I'm seriously thinking of making a fall run.
But that date is definitely out.

Shoot.

Double Shoot!

I would. I really would.
Shoot. Shoot. Shoot.

Ok, fine. Triple Shoot!

I'd love to say A.
But I'm going to go with B.

Noted.

True.
Unless you're one of us foreign devils.
Then it's 4 hours.

OH that does sucketh. A crapton of wasted time for sure!

And you are surprised by this???

Actually, no. Not really.

Woot! Did you ever think that day would come?

If you'd have asked me say... Last January? No, not in a million years.

How about a Daughter Drumming?

Nicely done- a double whammy!

Well today is the first day that I have a clear head. I read this a couple days ago and couldn't understand a word that you said. That's the difference between a head cold and it finally starting to go away.

That woulda been me on Saturday night. Sickest I've been in a long, long time. :( Never did ralph, but sure wished I either could have or just died. `Glad we're both feeling better!!

I think the ADRs are more exciting.

Yeah, I agree.

As far as how many of your ADRs that you get, I will say B) 7/8 because I tried to get a reservation for Flying Fish and they are still not showing open 180 days from today, so you might have to cut that one close or choose somewhere else.

Noted!

OK, did that above.

You smooth operator, you!

Ugh, that's always one of my biggest fears is that I have made the airline reservations for another day and have to scramble to find a place to stay!

It's a huge amount of hassle factor!!

Yes! I say you do it!

Noted.

I think this calls for an intervention of refundable reservations, just as a safety net!

I think you're right! I have 2 days "off" before Clinical starts Tuesday night, so I'll be online doing some refundable ressie making today and tomorrow. :)

I'd say go ahead and book something you can cancel with no penalty!

You're brilliant!! I'd like to take care of the hotel and our flights.

OK, so I realize that I only get points for one picture, but I realized that I've never posted these pictures online before and I've had them for over three years, so here goes: How about "Dream Suite" for "D" pictures? (Wow! I didn't realize that I had uploaded so many!)

So, who wouldn't LOVE one night in that palace?? Holy smoke dogs! That is seriously outlandish in a fairytale sort of way! WOWZA!!
