The ABC's of Sauntering Through WDW- J is for: Just Like That, It's Judiciously Ended! (4/23)

Oh that's interesting. I'll have to look that up (the cream). The cause seems legit; I've heard that too. I'm not sure why mine was; it was neither cold nor dry!

Sometimes humid the dry while in the air conditioning is enough to make it happen. Usually if I get one, and I have never had a gusher, is allergy season when excessive blowing of my nose causes it.

BTW, My last day at my present job is Tuesday!!!! I just had enough!!! The crazy is becoming weird and unpredictable. Let's just say the 2 Full time salaried positions at my center are leaving, leaving 2 -40 hour and 1 -30 hour hourly positions so that if any person is out, the other 2 have a hard time covering the building manager-wise. If I would have stayed, the situation with me covering the Facility manager duties would have been mine for the fourth time! No Thanks.
My mantra is " A job should not change who you are." When it begins to, it is time to go.
I will be training Lifeguards and Instructors and building a lesson program where there is none. Until that takes all of my time, I will manage outdoor seasonal pools for a company and get a sense of what is out in our community and the need that exists that I do not see from where I have been sitting.

So you don't have a laptop? I wonder if that's be a good solution for you so you can DIS while watching TV or something?

I do have a laptop, I just don't get much opportunity to sit at it and work. Well I can "work" but when Fran is awake she looks at my screen and hassles me when she sees the DIS on my screen, when there is work to do.

I find that at my advanced age, I can't DIS and watch TV cause I can only concentrate on one. I miss crucial aspects of the plot when I'm DISing. So I end up doing it on my phone like I am now while the news drones on and I sit in bed with my kitties surrounding me.

UGH!! NOT COOL! We had to listen to wife beatings in ours in Crapistan. Totally sucked.

I know. But we also have to catch them mid fight. Which means we need the tenants to call us when they are fighting and then we rush over there while they're still at it.

Oh that's interesting. I'll have to look that up (the cream). The cause seems legit; I've heard that too. I'm not sure why mine was; it was neither cold nor dry!

It's a holistic thing, the doc likes those better than regular meds.

What did you think?

Looks fantastic! They have Arancini, but don't call it that. The seafood cannelloni sounds interesting, but there's a bunch of stuff on the menu that I would eat!

D is for: Drinks in my Favorite DS Dive (Bell)

I’ve come to a place in my Disney travels where I find myself really enjoying slowing down and getting off my feet to slowly sip a cold cocktail and have a little refreshment. In the humid, sapping air of Central Florida it’s nice to step away from the crowds, the rush of touring, or the self-induced stress of getting on one more ride. I’m fortunate that I can go once a year, and sometimes more now, to my Happy Place, but realize that’s not true for everyone. I don’t take it for granted and am well aware that when a trip only comes around every few years, that urge to “get it all done or bust” takes priority, so I’m not here to judge or boast. I just want to share my current style of touring, which could easily change tomorrow, because life has a way of really sucking sometimes and we can’t really predict the future, can we?

Anyway, I’ll stop pontificating and get back to the business at hand…

As I was saying, I have really started to enjoy an afternoon break in one of Disney’s growing population of comfortable, themed lounges/restaurants. They have sprung up in a lot of places and often now instead of, or in some cases in addition to, doing a TS place, I’ll grab a small plate of some sort and a drink or two. Along with Jocks, I also adore the Nomad, Trader Sam’s, and am pretty sure I’m going to love Geyser Point at Wilderness Lodge when I can finally get there. So, onto the review of my dip into Jock’s…

I arrived during Happy Hour, although the likelihood of Disney offering HH prices is about the same as Kim Kardashian wearing a classy outfit in public. So, I paid regular menu prices for my order, amounting to roughly the same as a prescription EpiPen. I did have to wait briefly for a table and instead of it being in the Diving Bell (my favorite spot!)

I was escorted outside to a table on the patio which, in my opinion, is equally lovely. I know I tolerate (read: love!) the warm Florida air more than most, so know the majority of folks reading might prefer the A/C of the inside, but I loved the place I got. I have also sat inside a couple of times and I like it in there as well because of the explosion of knick-knacks and bric-a-brac that make for the highly themed space. The backstory is incredibly clever and if you like the Indiana Jones franchise, you will love this place. If you really want to take it to the next level, ask about the connections to Skipper’s Canteen- specifically, ask where Reggie the Snake is…. My point is, there is no bad table at Jock’s- either inside or out.

The patio is set up to be Jock's old river steamboat like those used in Jungle Cruise. The Boiler is a centerpiece of interest as well as the wall decor that has some classic Disney sight gags built in. They always amuse me. In contrast, the inside is Jock's hangar for his floatplanes used for his impressive inventory of adventures. You can learn about those as you peruse the menus, newspaper articles, and other documents that are all around inside and out. Seriously, slow down and take a look around. The theming is over-the-top at this place and the backstory goes on for niles and niles and niles.

Jock’s was the busiest I’ve ever seen it on this particular day and I had to wait quite a long time to get my water and put in my drink order. While my server did acknowledge me and apologized that it might take a bit, it did seem like forever. So a word of caution, if it’s busy and you have a dinner ADR you’re bumping up against, it could take a bit to get ‘er done.

While I waited I watched this little guy scope out the goods (remember him):

Eventually, it was my turn for my server's attention and I ordered my favorite cocktail of all time, a Pisco Sour.

The Bitter Barkeep - Barsol Quebranta Pisco, Simple Syrup, and fresh Lime Juice. Contains Pasteurized Egg Whites $12.50

For those of you who have never heard of Pisco, let me enlighten you:

"Pisco is a brandy that is the national spirit of both Peru and Chile, and fierce debate over who has appellation of origin rights continues to this day. Although Peru claims pisco must come from Peru to be labeled as pisco, the world’s largest importers allow the Chilean version to be called pisco as well. At least one thing is certain: pisco originated in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru, which contained Peru, Chile, and much of South America at the time. In the 1500s, the Spanish planted grapevines in both Peru and Chile, creating a nascent wine industry. Many of the grapes were fermented into wine and then distilled into the type of brandy now called pisco. The word translates into “bird," “river”, "valley" and “clay pot”, but when translated to mean “liquor”, it likely derived from the port town of Pisco, Peru, that once exported viticultural products.
Pisco is most often made from muscat grapes distilled in copper pot stills, but a limited number of other grape varieties and production methods can be used. Depending on the ingredients and distillation method, the color will vary from clear to amber. Usually, pisco is bottled at distillation strength and then classified into four categories. Pisco Puro (pure pisco) is made from a single variety of nonaromatic grape. Pisco Aromático (aromatic pisco) is made from a single variety of aromatic grape such as Muscat. Pisco Mosto Verde (green must pisco) is made from partially fermented grapes. Lastly, Pisco Acholado (multivarietal pisco) is blended from multiple grape varieties.

HOW TO DRINK PISCO:

Use Pisco puro or acholado if you want to make a Pisco Sour(link). Pisco can also be enjoyed neat, with a slice of citrus fruit, or blended with soda or another mixer."-- https://www.liquor.com/spirit/pisco-4/#gs.0w6ok7

It's not a well-known liquor, so most places won't have it. But, I have found it at the Nomad if you're interested.

I also ordered something that sounded unique and the right size:

Incan Tuna Tacos, - Seared ahi tuna with ancient spices in a tortilla shell with lettuce, guacamole, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, pico de gallo, sour cream and a toasted lime $16

The tacos were outstanding! No really... very, VERY good! Everything was super fresh and the roasted lime was perfect squeezed over them. They were spicy with the fresh jalepenos but not overly so. Trust me, it was ample enough to satiate most folks for a meal.

I have also in the past ordered:

Nang Tao Spicy Popcorn Chicken - crispy chicken chunks with Korean pepper sauce and popcorn tossed in a spicy Togarashi seasoning $11

And an:

Air Pirate's Mule - Knob Creek Disney Select Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon and fresh Lime Juice topped with Fever-Tree Ginger Beer $14.00 (last year? 2 years ago?)

My neighbors had ordered a giant pretzel and left quite a lot. Had I been sitting just a smidge closer, I'd have grabbed it myself and nibbled while I sauntered around The Springs (holy cow that takes a long time to type out :rolleyes2), but this little scavenger swooped in before I could get my hot little hands on it.

The moral of the story is you have to be quicker than I am to get free dining at Disney.

I'm strangely okay with that.

I'm looking into my crystal ball...

I see your wallet taking a spin on this:

Mighty-Microscope-1.jpg

If that's lost on you, Google Adventures Through Inner Space, Disneyland

I can't afford the former... and can't convince the latter.

Kids these days... :sad2:

You are making me think about spagetti.....

So.... you're saying... a spaghetti scented bath bomb is what you want?

An interesting idea...might be worth a shot

Someone's way ahead of you.... ;)

Sometimes humid the dry while in the air conditioning is enough to make it happen. Usually if I get one, and I have never had a gusher, is allergy season when excessive blowing of my nose causes it.

That sure makes sense. I think you are right, going back and forth can wreak havoc!

Well, that's some news!

I'm really glad you're finally saying good bye to that nonsense! It's been so awful for WAY too long. And you are right. If you can't define your job and find joy in it... time to GO!!!

I like the sound of your switch; it sounds like a very good fit!

Enabling - that's totally the right word! And yes, the wait in the lobby was looooooong, but after the red eye flight at 12:05 am and the connecting flight I was way too brain dead to start figuring out transportation. I had not expected the hotel that I was staying at to be so huge and yet seemingly so isolated; but once I got a quick recovery nap and supper I was ready to go for the next day. And I know I torture myself with 10 day park passes, but it seems like such a good idea when I'm booking!
Long trips always do. LOL!! I think most people forget to add in a day or 2 of rest and to adjust their pace a bit. I know I did for a long while and then got to Day 6 or so and hit the wall.

I do have a laptop, I just don't get much opportunity to sit at it and work. Well I can "work" but when Fran is awake she looks at my screen and hassles me when she sees the DIS on my screen, when there is work to do.

But, there is ALWAYS work to be done. Always. One could literally work 24 hours a day and there would still be more. I learned that WAY too late in life (spoken by a tried and true workaholic.)

I find that at my advanced age, I can't DIS and watch TV cause I can only concentrate on one. I miss crucial aspects of the plot when I'm DISing. So I end up doing it on my phone like I am now while the news drones on and I sit in bed with my kitties surrounding me.

I get that for sure. You don't even have to be old for that to be true. Lately, I just put on some music and listen passively as I try to answer threads or read.

I know. But we also have to catch them mid fight. Which means we need the tenants to call us when they are fighting and then we rush over there while they're still at it.

OY! That's gonna be very tough. Unless you stake someone out, I think the chances are pretty slim. :guilty:

It's a holistic thing, the doc likes those better than regular meds.

A good balance is the perfect way to approach the art of medicine. ::yes::

Looks fantastic! They have Arancini, but don't call it that. The seafood cannelloni sounds interesting, but there's a bunch of stuff on the menu that I would eat!

I didn't even notice the seafood cannelloni. Totally would be something I'd order!:cloud9:

Obviously, it's not as easy to do since they got rid of the non-expiring tickets, but that's why we always did 1 park day, 1 resort day alternating. We found if we didn't, after the 2nd or 3rd day everyone would be on short fuses. Now we're local and AP holders, it makes the go go go mentality go away. I realize not everyone has that luxury, though.

I'm finally able to start doing this, now that I'm going more often.

Now look what you've done! You've upset Kim!

Read up on it a bit. Like that. :)

propellers for fans! I like that. :)

Huh! Nice little tie in there.

Seriously, slow down and take a look around. The theming is over-the-top at this place

From what you've shown us of your photos, it certainly looks that way. :)

and the backstory goes on for niles and niles and niles.

Africa.

Love the fork stuck there.

Jock’s was the busiest I’ve ever seen it on this particular day and I had to wait quite a long time to get my water and put in my drink order. So a word of caution, if it’s busy and you have a dinner ADR you’re bumping up against, it could take a bit to get ‘er done.

Hmmm... then again you did say it was the busiest you've seen. But thanks for the tip!

While I waited I watched this little guy scope out the goods (remember him):

I can't even remember what day it is... you want me to remember more????

Eventually, it was my turn for my server's attention and I ordered my favorite cocktail of all time, a Pisco Sour.

I remember reading that somewhere. Probably here?

HOW TO DRINK PISCO:

Bring glass towards face, using one or both hands. Place lower lip on outer edge of glass closest to face. Place other lip on opposite side of glass from lower lip. Open lips slightly and tilt glass towards you until liquid begins to flow into mouth. Use caution that you do not tilt glass too quickly *** liquid will spill over mouth and run down chin. If you wish to spill, just tip it over on table towards your opposing seat mate.

Incan Tuna Tacos, - Seared ahi tuna with ancient spices in a tortilla shell with lettuce, guacamole, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, pico de gallo, sour cream and a toasted lime $16

Sounds interesting. I'd try it.

Nang Tao Spicy Popcorn Chicken - crispy chicken chunks with Korean pepper sauce and popcorn tossed in a spicy Togarashi seasoning $11

mmm... that sounds even better (to me)

My neighbors had ordered a giant pretzel and left quite a lot. Had I been sitting just a smidge closer, I'd have grabbed it myself and nibbled while I sauntered around The Springs

 You'd eat someone else's leftovers... that they've had in their mouth or had their hands all over?

Gross!

See? Even the bird is having second thoughts.

The moral of the story is you have to be quicker than I am to get free dining at Disney.

:lmao:

It's so great to have you here, Vanessa! I'm glad you popped in and are all caught up! Glad you're enjoying it too!

Again I'm sorry I'm so late. I try not to miss A Stepp report.

OH MY GOSH!! Yes!!! That would be so amazing!!!

Yes it would.

I'll be there in May and again in Sept! :) Let me know if you'll be there then too. Anara is going to BTS while I"m there in May. :) She's super duper stoked!

I won't be back until December. But if Danielle gets into DCP she would be there when you go in Sept. Danielle loved the BTS concert!

See?! I keep telling people who've never been... you can go to WDW and have a GREAT vacation without even going to a park! Sure they are fun too and the rides are amazing, but before you even get to the park, you'll have had a great time!

I with Disney would stick with ADDING stuff and not CHANGING Stuff. Just my own personal rant. LOL!

PREACH!

That's really amazing that she put herself out there and tried. You just never know and it'll be an experience she'll never forget!

No she won't. We both really enjoyed it. Disney makes everything fun. She met lots of young Disney lovers.

I don't think I had seen the outside seating of Jock's before. It looks really interesting! Then again, I also completely forgot about this bar in Disney Springs. Guess I'm off to my planning spreadsheets to add this to the list of places to try and visit on our arrival night. (Stopping by the Edison and Jock Lindsay's isn't too much, right?):rotfl:

And holy cow, that pretzel was huge. Between that and your taco picture, I would say the food there is pretty filling.

I’ve come to a place in my Disney travels where I find myself really enjoying slowing down and getting off my feet to slowly sip a cold cocktail and have a little refreshment.
I want to come to this place in my Disney travels. Not that I don't want my family tagging along, but I don't want my family tagging along...shhhh
I just look forward to one day being able to relax more on Disney trips and slow down to smell the roses.

I don’t take it for granted and am well aware that when a trip only comes around every few years, that urge to “get it all done or bust” takes priority,
Yep. That's where I am still. I really do enjoy that kind of trip too. I know one day part of me will miss having the girls on a trip and running from ride to princess to ride through the parks.

The backstory is incredibly clever and if you like the Indiana Jones franchise, you will love this place.
I would enjoy this place. I don't even recall walking past it. I was only at Disney Springs twice and both times was raining, so it was more of a dash from shop to shop. I also found it hard to get my bearings after all the changes in layout from DTD. Once again, something for the to do list next trip.
Just out of curiosity, did you notice any family's with kids there? Or can underage kids even go in?

Seriously, slow down and take a look around. The theming is over-the-top at this place and the backstory goes on for niles and niles and niles.
I see what you did there.
I would enjoy finding all the hidden gems at that place. There is even an obscure Star Wars reference there. Great for the geek in me.

I find myself really enjoying slowing down and getting off my feet to slowly sip a cold cocktail and have a little refreshment.

I hope to get to this point someday.

I know I tolerate (read: love!) the warm Florida air more than most, so know the majority of folks reading might prefer the A/C of the inside, but I loved the place I got.

 AC for me!

The patio is set up to be Jock's old river steamboat like those used in Jungle Cruise.

This is really cool and may convince me to sitting outside.

For those of you who have never heard of Pisco, let me enlighten you:

Very informative for me. I don't drink much so I have lots to learn.

I’ve come to a place in my Disney travels where I find myself really enjoying slowing down and getting off my feet to slowly sip a cold cocktail and have a little refreshment.

I reached that point long ago.... :rolleyes1

I’m fortunate that I can go once a year, and sometimes more now, to my Happy Place, but realize that’s not true for everyone.

So far it's been fairly true for me with only a few exceptions. I feel very fortunate too.

That's our exact plan for dinner tomorrow night!

The backstory is incredibly clever and if you like the Indiana Jones franchise, you will love this place.

I'm mildly aware of the backstory, but haven't done serious research into the whole thing.

The patio is set up to be Jock's old river steamboat like those used in Jungle Cruise.

I didn't even know there was a patio! We had our drinks at the bar the time we went there.

Pisco is a brandy that is the national spirit of both Peru and Chile, and fierce debate over who has appellation of origin rights continues to this day.

Very interesting, I had no idea. I'm well versed in Tequila, Wine, Sake, and know a little about Whiskeys and Vodka, but had no idea about this. Now I'm interested in trying a Pisco Sour!

It's not a well-known liquor, so most places won't have it.

Hmmmm, not sure where we will be that might have it. Think Yachtsman might?

Incan Tuna Tacos, - Seared ahi tuna with ancient spices in a tortilla shell with lettuce, guacamole, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, pico de gallo, sour cream and a toasted lime $16

This sounds good, sans Jalapeno, it would be a perfect meal for me, even to split with Fran.

I would be a little scared about taking food that others had had their grubby little fingers all over...but then again you deal with people throwing up on you and all sorts of other gross things, so I'm not judging.

But, there is ALWAYS work to be done. Always. One could literally work 24 hours a day and there would still be more. I learned that WAY too late in life (spoken by a tried and true workaholic.)

I try to get this point across to her. She thinks that we can't have fun or rest if there is work to be done. She is always complaining that we are going on trips, and I'm thinking, "With the way you put me through all this work, I deserve trips often!"

OY! That's gonna be very tough. Unless you stake someone out, I think the chances are pretty slim. :guilty:

Actually that's exactly how we threw out the last occupant of this same unit. I was just about to get in line for gas at Costco when the nextdoor neighbor called and said that they were at it again. I called Fran and told her to get ready and meet me outside and we went straight over there and they were still going at it. She politely suggested that they find another place to live.

Ah! Like Body Wars in Epcot. :thumbsup2

Actually having been on both, it was nothing like Body Wars. As far as I remember Body Wars used the Star Tours vehicle, but went inside a human body. It kind of made me sick. Journey to Inner Space was a vehicle more like the HM clamshell and you "shrank" by the scenery around you becoming larger. Eventually you were the size of a molecule and there were many molecules on either side of you similar in size to yourself. Then you got bigger as the ride came to a close and you could go back out into the world a full sized human.

Oh! Ok thanks.
Yes, Body Wars was a motion simulator like Star Tours.

I'm sure my mindset would change in a similar way if I was able to go once a year or more. It is what it is.

Sold! That's all I needed.

Nice. I'm sure it didn't take them long to figure out where the goodies are.

The moral of the story is you have to be quicker than I am to get free dining at Disney.
