The ABCs of a Very Merry Christmastime Land and Sea Adventure- M is for: Making the Most of a Morning Safari!

J is for: A Jingle Bell-Style Jaunt Around WS

Finding a start to some sustenance, it was time to take that first jaunt around WS. We had no particular goals other than soaking in all the lovely Holiday Ambiance throughout the Pavlions. First impression: It was so fantastic! I was particularly struck by the creativity put into the swags and garlands.

I used to have strong opinions on which way to stroll… I’ve come to learn in my advanced age and recent onset of fickle attitudes that mood often drives the bus rather than obstinate, arbitrary rule-following. Although, at the time, when starting in Mexico was THE only way to circumnavigate WS for this stubborn old gal, a lot of effort went into justifying why the Counter-clockwisers were just… wrong. 😉

That day, however, Kari’s need to replenish her Disney card dictated the direction we headed. The place to get that done was the IG, so I joined the Counter-Clockwisers who, for some unidentifiable reason, choose to forestall a delicious empanada and marg, for a random, less mouth-watering snack. Well, except for maybe France. Where you’ll wait in line for about a year for anything at all including the overly-hyped Festival Kiosk where one year I had the only dish I’ve ever taken one bite of and was so horrified I literally threw up in my mouth. #theescargotpastrymademevomit

Okay, off we go. First up, Canada: I gotta say, of the 11 Pavilions, this one had some lovely swags that were in my Top 3. Very wintry and classy! Too bad the mostly, non-existent gift shops can’t offer some wintry goodies aside from pucks and crass soap. Yes, Worstentile, I will always mock you.

Breezing through with only a whiff of the maple popcorn we came to the UK. This Pavilion was less impressively decorated, but made up for it with another “attraction” that I’ll share with you later in the TR. 😉 However, I did get a Letter ‘J’ for Steppe’s Holiday Alphabet Hunt.

(J is for: JINGLE BELLS!)

Being that this was a quickie stroll through WS, we didn’t dig into the Pavilions very deeply. We mostly breezed on by and snapped a few photos as we went. In fact, we didn’t even stop at France at all. I will later in the week, but today we cruised on by only to stop for one very quick picture of the Holiday display in Morocco. Voila! One is all you get.

When we hit Japan, Kari stopped for something on her list- The Mochi Donut Wrap: A soft, chewy fusion pastry served with strawberry, whipped cream, strawberry sauce, and sweet red beans wrapped with “gyuhi” rice cake sheet- $6.50 I *think* @Malia78 liked it. I tried a bite and thought it was pretty tasty- what’s not to love about sweet red bean?!

The next photo I have is from Germany where I worked hard to overcome Karamell Kuche’s tantalizing temptation. In hindsight, it’d been wise to succumb to a choco-covered pineapple spear rather then get what I did next.

We found ourselves in China where once upon a time, many years ago, I got one of the most delicious Festival snacks I’ve ever had- something with noodles and shrimp in which I dropped not one, but two in succession, of the shrimp because getting a one-handed photo for a trip report was more important than preserving a $7 snack and my sense of dignity. Yes, a couple saw me do it (both times). Yes, they laughed at me. Twice.

This year, the offerings were decidedly meh. I can’t remember what Kari got, but I opted for the very bland, very unexciting, very over-priced spring rolls. After 1 ½ of them, I gave up and tossed the last bit. Perhaps the smoke from the woman who thought her own private smoking section behind the Joy of Tea would go unnoticed. It didn’t. It took everything in me to keep a lid on it. She’s lucky; I’m not always very successful at not calling out bad behavior anymore. Rudeness irks me the older I get.

While in the China Pavilion, we happened to catch the musical trio playing some traditional Chinese music often played during Chinese New Year. There isn’t much in the way of live music that Steppe doesn’t enjoy. As such, I really liked being able to sit and rest while they played a few numbers.

The last photo I have of WS was from Norway where I snagged Olaf #2.

To count: Canada- CHECK; Norway- CHECK!

And that was that… one turn around WS; there would be several more to be had during the trip. It had been a long day and since Kari was going to up in the middle of the night for her departure, we needed to make our way back to the room.

On the way out we stopped for a couple of photo opportunities in a new-to-me (and relatively new area of the park!) area. We made sure to snicker at Disney’s new attempt at clandestine naughty bits- perhaps an Imagineering response to having to remove its counterpart from Morocco. And that’s all I’ll say about that; feel free to Google at your own risk or PM me.

Next up: Steppe was far from done that night…. Follow me to Disney Springs for some nighttime merriment.

J is also for: Jesus- fairly central to one of the Holidays ;) (this little ornament was given as part of our ornament exchange)

A worthy goal. :)

No. Way!
You??? You have changed your mind on this???

:faint:

(Could be wrong, but I do believe this is the first sign of the apocalypse.)

That's so clockist.

I made a point of not trying that, just based on your report.

Yeah...

They so could do a much better job in there. I mean... geez... even sell some maple syrup for crying out loud. :sad2:

Almost missed Olaf, there, in the background.

One only... because it wasn't that impressive... or because you were just busy taking it all in?

That sounds interesting. I'd definitely try that.

You're really selling it.

Just gross.

Really! I don't think I've ever seen live music there. Huh! I would've stopped too.

Cute shots of you both. :goodvibes

Lovely 1st walk through WS.

I don't know if I have a tried and true side when walking WS but I do think I normally start in Mexico.

Sorry your festival food wasn't better. Hopefully it got better later in your trip.

I like your new avatar. You look great in a white coat. :)

I used to have strong opinions on which way to stroll…
We've traveled the most between the International Gateway and the Canada side of the path, due to staying at the BC/YC so many times. But otherwise, our route depends on the destination. :)

I agree. The Canada pavilion is one of the best-looking ones. But the gift shop is a disappointment. And it is also inconvenient to get to.

Oh, Epcot at Christmastime is just sooooo beautiful! I love all the decor in each country, too. We had a lot of fun searching for Olaf on our last Christmas trip. That is definitely on the list again for this year!

Friends:

Forgive my delinquency that last fair bit!! It's been crazy here for sure!

My grandkids are in Kentucky and I've been having them take turns with Grammie Sleepovers. That eats up a fair amount of my weekend! On top of that, we've had the WORST weather imaginable with having to shelter for tornado warnings and now massive flooding. The rain just. Won't. Stop. Hopefully today is the last of that. Not that that makes me terribly busy, but I've just not slept very well for what seems like weeks.

The new job is starting to a bit stressful as I near the day I start to see my own patients. It's scary and I've been spending DAYS prepping for those office visits and pouring over charts to learn as much as I can about each one before I see them. I want to be the very best Provider I can and that takes time! The last 2 weeks my Office Manager had me shadowing out of town to learn the processes of those offices and see those other providers' styles. All in all, it's been good and I've learned a lot.

Lastly, I've spent countless hours planning and preparing for my upcoming trip to Africa! As I mentioned on my other thread (finally finished that TR from my daughter's wedding in the Philippines, Bali, and 4 locations in Australia (TR link HERE)) I'm saving the exact locations as a surprise, but should you be interested in following along for the (somewhat) DAILY SNEAK PEEKS, and the eventual TR, stay tuned! I'll post a link on this thread when I post that. :) All that to say, I've been very, very busy and I know I'm VERY behind on all the TRs of yours I follow (if you have one going let me know!). Please forgive me, but I will try very hard to get caught back up very soon!

Peace and love!- Steppe

I can be fairly dogmatic now and then. ;)

Yay, I saved someone from vomiting in WS!
Yeah...

Sigh... such a shame!
Almost missed Olaf, there, in the background.
Peek-a-boo!

I wasn't really pausing much at any of the Pavilions as this was meant to be a quick cruise through, but tbh Morocco doesn't a have much or any really holiday decor up which makes sense sticking with them and location. Christmas isn't celebrated much in most Muslim counties. ;)
And you succeeded? I'm impressed!
It was not easy...
Really! I don't think I've ever seen live music there. Huh! I would've stopped too.
Years and years ago, I saw a lady playing a very large horizontal harp like instrument in the area you wait in before the movie. It was absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite memories of my Dad who was with me. We always enjoyed live music together. :goodvibes

I would venture to guess most people do! I mean.... the margs are RIGHT THERE! ;)

I tried several more things.... lots to come!

That's nice that you can have sleepovers with your grandkids. Do they live near you or are they just visiting?

The weather has been horrible for your area. I hope the rain goes away so that it can get back to normal.

Good luck with your practice. You look great in a white coat. :)

Kidding of course. We all understand that life gets busy. :)

That'll keep you occupied!

:scared:
I've just not sleet very well
I know this is a typo... and I try to not mention them when I see them. No one's perfect, least of all moi.

But... I found this one fun. :)
Sleet works very well with the weather you've been having, but in the context of you sentence... I've decided it's a new word combining a lack of sleep and a surfeit of constipation.

:lmao:

You've certainly trained for this for a long time.

That is certainly get! I rarely get to WS and don't do a whole circuit, but the starting point at IG is for sure if you're staying at an EPCOT resort. ::yes::
I agree. The Canada pavilion is one of the best-looking ones. But the gift shop is a disappointment. And it is also inconvenient to get to.
Agree to all of that! I do love to go back into the waterfall area on a hot day to cool off too. So lovely and quiet back there.

They are visiting their mom's folks who live about an hour away. The DIL doesn't visit really over here (her choice, not mine) but is okay with letting the kids come over (as long as I pick them up and take them. :rolleyes2) They live in the Olympia, WA area and come out here about once a year.

The rivers/streams are supposed to crest tomorrow an inch below all-time record flood. It's absolutely nutso! There are rumors that we've had small quakes and could trigger a big one on the Madrid fault. Apparently, there's 78 trillion gallons + of water sitting on it right now. We're way overdue for one.

Thanks!!! Now to do it the skill it deserves. :)

Okay that's FUNNY!!! Oddly, I've started taking Calcium... we all know what that does.
You'll do great! :)
You've certainly trained for this for a long time.
I have. I really have. So far I've felt very welcomed and oriented well. I have a ton of support and a wonderful MA who has been amazing at wanting to be a well-oiled machine with me. WOOT!
That's right! Another wild TR! :woohoo:
There's always high adventure!

The New Madrid fault zone has been predicted to erupt for many years. But I can see why there is increased concern about an earthquake - from the US Geological Service website:

The most obvious effects of the 1811-1812 earthquakes are the large sandy deposits, known as sand blows, resulting from eruption of water and sand to the ground surface. This phenomenon called earthquake-induced liquefaction is the process by which water-saturated, sandy sediment temporarily loses its strength due to the buildup of water pressure in the pores between sand grains as seismic waves pass through the sediment. If the pore-water pressure increases to the point that it equals the weight of the overlying soil, the sediment liquefies and behaves as a fluid. The resulting slurry of water and sediment tends to flow towards the ground surface along cracks and other weaknesses. Overlying soil "floating" on liquefied sediments moves down even gentle slopes, causing fissuring and lateral and vertical displacements. This type of landslide known as lateral spreading is commonly responsible for damage to infrastructure (bridges, roads, buildings) during major earthquakes.

During the 1811 and 1812 earthquakes, liquefaction and resulting lateral spreading was severe and widespread.

I know you'll do great once you start seeing you own patients. You've worked really hard for this.

I'm excited to hear about your new Africa adventure.

Yay for grammie weekends! Big BOO for the horrible weather--I cannot believe some of the footage I've seen from Kentucky. Weather has been so scary here on and off the last couple weeks, too. I've never seen so many tornado watches and warnings in a row. It's like we never just get a little rain anymore--everything is something dangerous.

I need to go read the wrap up to the Asia-Australia TR. SO excited for the new adventure you're about to begin!

HUH!! Now that is sure interesting information! Thank you for sharing that! (Great, something more to deal with that Mother Nature is in charge of- LOL!)

Now just to remember it all and be able to recall it as I need to! Tuesday's the big day!

TR coming up soon!

I was shocked myself at the footage of places that were even far worse off than us. But even so, there were TONS of roads completely covered with entire neighborhoods cut off for DAYS right here in town. Places west of us were absolutely a lake and still cut off. I think that weather actually broke some records for most warnings issued in one event. I'd have to check again. I do know we got over 10 inches of rain in 3 days.
