The 2010 World Cup Thread / South Africa

^^^

I was looking for the Girls of Beach Volleyball from Team Brazil ...but the temp in Jo-Berg was 37 degrees. ;)

Team NK needs to order the hotel room service more. Some of the team looked pale.

Well, a draw wouldn't be the end of the world, since I think Algeria will be a win. However it would be nice to grab a win and have our fate in our own hands...for a change. :)

Q: What do Michael Jackson and Robert Green have in common?

A: They both use gloves for no apparent reason.

A: What do BP and Robert Green have in common?

Q: They are both British and known for American spills. :thumbsup2

I would be disappointed with anything less then 2 wins against Slovenia and Algeria. I think it will come down to goal difference determining whether it is us or England on top and we have a great chance at winning that battle. Anything to avoid Germany in the round of 16.

The officiating was terrible in today's game. We were robbed of a game-winning goal.

That was some of the most ridiculous officiating I have ever seen. Our guy (Bradley I think) was being bear-hugged in the penalty area and not only is there no penalty called but the winning goal was disallowed!! :headache:

And how about the yellow card for the phantom handball...off the face...geesh

I hate complaining about officiating because people come out looking bitter and like sore losers, but the refs today were out of control awful! US got ripped off big time!

I'll be the 1st to admit that most of my soccer knowledge comes from watching my 7 yr old daughter....

However...The US got ripped. No way that goal should have been disallowed.

On another note, can someone tell my why they have 1 referee on a field that big. A 90 ft basketball court has 2-3 refs watching 10 players. I think soccer needs to add at least 1 more as there seemed to be way to much going on for that 1 guy to handle today.

They have side judges which makes that disallowed goal even more suspect. I can't figure out what the foul call was although some are saying offsides but neither of the side judges raised their flags.

Apparently, however, bear hugs and headlocks are now allowed LOL!

But again, the US needs to stop putting themselves in these positions. They can't keep getting behind early.

I haven't seen the match, other than just the video of the disallowed goal.
As near as I can tell, the Slovenia player was behind the American. When it was clear he had the wrong position, he took a dive to the ground.

1) In the video footage I saw, there was no way the American committed a foul.
2) Taking a flagrant dive like that to draw a foul, should in fact be carded.
3) Clearly not offsides so it must have been a foul called.

I can't wait to watch this game in it's entirety.

The US was ROBBED of a win. There's no doubt in my mind about it.

I've heard several commentators today that are baffled by the referee's call. Some say that if anything, there was a foul commited against the US.

Regardless, to make such a drastic call -one that could cost the US a pass to the next round- over something that isn't crystal clear is just poor, unprofessional officiating.

Just look at this. There were grounds to call four penalties on the Slovenian team.

Instead, the US goal was disallowed.

That ref is one of the worst I've ever seen.

This is simply outrageous!

And if you notice the guy who (supposedly) commited the foul (Edu) wasnt even touching anyone really. At least that is what people are saying is that they 'think' he called it on Edu but since he aint talking no one knows

What a joke. It almost makes you think there was something going on behind the scenes if you know what I mean

Sat 19 Jun Group Stage Matches...Group D / Group E ...

NED / JPN...7:30 am EDT
GHA / AUS...10:30 am EDT
CMR / DEN...2:30 pm EDT

The ref is from Mali, and his first FIFA World Cup match. :rolleyes1

RANT: Anyone else want to comment on the abyssmal officiating today in both the Ger-Serb game or the U.S.-Slovenia game? I mean, I know the refs sometimes end up playing a role in soccer matches (as they can do in any sport), but today hit a new low, IMHO. Mallenco was just awful. Klose's red card was completely undeserved. And the Mali ref in the U.S. game should be banned for life.

Much better officiating in the Eng-Alg game

Okay, glad to get that off my chest....
