The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

We leave tomorrow:cool1::cool1: for the june 24th sailing!!!!

one BIG Glitch. We emailed to confirm our 2 night stay in Canterbury (reservations we made forever ago) and they got our reservation mixed up with another!!!:scared1::scared1: ie... no place to stay!!!:scared1:

I have gotten rid of all of my research of places to stay in the Canterbury/dover area. :headache: Lesson learned!! Can anyone share any places they have researched that look decent? you can pm me if needed.
There are 7 of us and we are traveling by train.
Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Kellie

Not sure which sailing your'e on but we just cancelled a room at the Ramada in Dover for the night before the cruise on the 17th of July. So there should be at least 1 room available that night if it helps.

They are on the june 24th sailing. I hope they find a room!

I was inspired by kellie to reconfirm my hotel in Dover (booked ages ago) and have still not heard back from them...hmmm, might have to call them.

Thrilled to see that cruise critic video. I sure hope they continue updating.

Unfortunately, we won't have time before we leave for London on July 2. My DH and I visited the museum years ago, too, just after it opened. I've been waiting for a repeat visit until the kids were ready. I think they are, now, especially as they have both now studied WWII and the holocaust in school. Have a good visit!
Will still be there when you get back:thumbsup2
Can't wait to hear how your sailing goes:woohoo:

My DH is picking up our loaner international Verizon cell phone today from our local Verizon store. Couldn't have been easier to get and we're just forwarding my number to it. Very happy to have it, and hopefully it will work everywhere.
It would be great if you post here and let us know:thumbsup2:goodvibes

We are using the DCL excursions. Keep an eye on the blog for photos and reviews.
:thumbsup2:cool1:

I went yesterday and upgraded my dh's phone to one of the phones they use for international calling. It comes Monday, they didn't have any in the store.
They didn't have any my store either and said they would have to order it as well.

Verizon also said it is $2.49 per minute for calls made from the Magic.
Yup, only for emergencies for us:rolleyes:

I find it fascinating the different info Verizon employees are giving out on this topic!!! Dh had been at the Verizon store a couple weeks ago & asked them about going to Europe & what he could do about his phone - the employee had no idea & told him he could use it there but there were huge fees involved. So he was totally surprised when I told him what I had seen on here about the loaner phones. So he talked to someone & they told him you could rent the phone for 21 days - we're going to be gone 23 total. :confused3 I'm going to have him go to the big store we have & hopefully get it all worked out this weekend
Well I have found that not all sales people at the stores are equally informed and it must be a bummer to get a store that either doesn't know the company policy or has their own policies.
Hope it works out for you:flower3:

Hello everybody,

On Baltic topic now : don't know if you've already seen this, but it looks like a nice You Tube link "en direct" from the first Baltic  and they promise more to come..

This is my debate and will discuss with concierge.

Berlin, St Petes x 2.

Options

1/ Arrange to go to main dinner late.
2/ Eat in Suite.
3/ Swap to Late.

Favour 1 and 2. Do not want to miss a show.

But say if they put on a Fim Warnemunde night, say Toy Story 3, we can catch up another day and eat dinner on late sitting.

We had late seating on the Med and on the night in Rome, they held dinner until 9 PM that night. They might be making special accomodations for Berlin and St. Pete. I guess we have to wait and see how this cruise makes. out.
We just might talk to the Head Server about what to do. Thanks.

Did anyone on the first cruise do the Tivoli Early Entrance excursion? If so can you tell me if you thought it was worth it?

Thats what I meant when I said head waiter on the Med in 2007 they just wanted you to come on down to the dining rooms that is!

Me too! Good question I booked that tour with the canal tour combination play a little see a little!:dance3:

She did, actually. She posted on our meet thread that she got a room with a bit of time to spare before leaving for the airport. We were all really happy and relieved for her!:thumbsup2

I want to know about Tivoli too! Its so pricey. Now that the euro has tanked its much cheaper to do on your own, and its walkable.

I like the idea of the private tour, but is it worth it? Dying to hear what others think.

Looking at the Cruise Critic Baltic blog...which I thought was VERY good, is there only 1 so far ( embarkation day ) ?:confused3

My guess is as someone who posted said, the internet must be pretty poor. It gave us a hard time in the Med and so DCL credited us. Something is telling me that maybe we shouldn't even bother on this one. I guess we'll wait for the trip reports before we decide.

I think internet is poor, we will find out when the first cruise returns.

PS There are Gales in the North Sea!!!!:scared1:

What do you mean there are gales in the north sea??????????

Not normal for June but the North Sea has Gales today, strong cold winds down from the North Pole, but good news we will have High pressure from Monday and we will warm up and its Sunny for the first week of Wimbledon.

Glad they are not crusing this Saturday rather than last.

North Sea is often active, lets hope it will settle down.

Well, even the website says 30 days. I spoke directly to someone w/Verizon who works in the Global Travel division and, hey, for all I know, he was reading directly from the webpage.

The Global Travel Program Agreement paperwork says "and agree to take ownership of the enclosed global device for a period of 30 days from date or order." So. Date of ORDER. In my case, that's 6/11, which is (unfortunately) 11 days before I hit the road. I fly back on 7/7, so I have 4 days to get that sucker back in the mail. It's not a lot of time, but it's certainly not my shiny enV Touch so I'll just have to get that sucker back in the mail ASAP!
