The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Yes they are - the Promenade Lounge, Rockin' Bar D and Diversions were all being used to show games during the cruise - just check the Personal Navigator each day to see which games are being shown and where. The Captain even changed course on the first day to get a better satellite position so people could watch the game! Outside Diversions there is a board with all the scores and group positions on so your DH will be able to keep track of what is going on. :thumbsup2

He will be so happy about this :happytv: (Not sure how I feel about it but I'm sure I'll find something to occupy my time:thumbsup2)

I have a question about debarkation day for all those who have recently returned. We're taking Disney transportation from the Grosvenor House Hotel to the port. Do you know approximately what time we'll arrive, and will we be allowed to leave the boat to go tour Dover after we've checked in?
Thanks!

Mike:

A questions about formal and semi formal nights. How many were there. I have read conflicting reports and want to make sure I take the right clothing.

I'm so glad you had a great trip. I look forward to reading everyone' questions and your answers.

Can anyone tell me if your able to change currency on the ship? I have pounds and euros, but wondering about the swedish and danish currency. I will be bringing a credit card for purchases but will need some currency, wondering if thats available on the ship. If not are there ATM's at the ports? Thanks for any responses in advance!

Not sure if someone posted about this but the currency exchange on the ship is at the going rate and in certain denominations. I cannot remember if I saved the sheet but I am sure that someone did. You can also exchange back into dollars or another currency but only in certain denominations. Olso was the only port that had an ATM at the port. I would suggest having some get off the boat money until you can get into town.

Not Mike...but there was one formal (1st sea day) and 1 semi-formal (2nd to last night).

I can't believe the first cruise is almost over - I guess if I was on-board I REALLY wouldn't want to belive it :rotfl:

I asked on the main board but if anyone on the first or second trip could share what people are wearing on the excursions involving churches. I'm a little worried since I got an email about shorts. It's NOT me I'm worried about since I'll be wearing capri's I'm more curious about the boys & dh since they'll want to wear shorts.

No problem with shorts in the churchs. DD wore shorts most of the time.

Thanks to Wickesy and CarolMB, all your info truly helps us out.. :)

Rogillo I will check out your trip report too

Do you think they will let you stay in town after the harbor cruise and go back to the ship on your own ? We'd like to do that. Have lunch, walk around ??

I think so as long as you let the guide know!

What is the difference between being dropped off at the ship & in town?:thumbsup2

Just posted our (draft) trip report. We are actually sitting in the Sky Team lounge in Heathrow.

This cruise was incredible . . . absolutely incredible!

Great trip report.

How was the hydrofoil yout took to the Peterhof fountains? My ds9 and I get motion sick on small boats and I'm a bit worried about it. I plan to take bonine but just wanted to know how much "movement" you really felt. We've been okay on ferry boats and on cruise ships.

I kept the currency exchange sheet. These are the bills you can change:

Euro
50
20
10
5

British Pounds
20

Danish Krone
100

Swedish Krona
100

Norwegian Krone
100

Russian Ruble
500

I'm not sure if posting the exchange rates would be useful as they will obviously fluctuate but if anybody wants them let me know.

Another Thank You to everyone posting from the first Baltic Cruise:thumbsup2:cheer2:

I know when I come back from vacation the first thing I want to do is relax:laughing:
So appreciate you all taking the time to come on here and answer our questions:grouphug:

Really glad everything went so smoothly:thumbsup2

Mike, it's a great trip report:thumbsup2
Smart writing it up in a document first-gotta remember to do that.

I noticed you wrote something about the river cruise on the first night in St Petersburg not adding much over the Anastasia Tour. Can you elaborate a bit more on that?

We have a river cruise added to the end of our Anastasia tour as well (neither with DCL) but I'm assuming it would be the same as what you had. Is it more of a boat party rather than seeing more sites? Now a boat party with my DIS friends can be fun too;), but I can see if you were expecting to see more sites that you would be disappointed.

Did most places take credit cards or did you need more cash? I still haven't figured out how much cash and if I need to exchange it ahead of time. We are not sticking with DCL for most excursions so I just didn't know what to do about money? Any suggestions would be great!!!!

The thing I forgot about is if you just want a drink/ice cream/whatever while you are out and about - for example when we came out of the museum at Oslo I fancied a drink from the cart outside but we didn't have any cash and a small cart is unlikely to take credit cards so I had to wait until we got back to the ship.

The ship will change back any bills they give you that you do not use so it may be worth getting at least one or two.

Does the boat take travelers checks? I was thinking I would just exchange a little money on the boat before each destination into that countries currency.

Is Warnemunde close to the dock? We are DIY that day and thought we would just walk into town and ATM some Euros before we head over to a Bier Garten.

Again thanks for all the great info. We sure appreciate it!!!

Laurie,
What is the name of the Segway company in Tallin? :confused3 I looked and couldn't find one. We are planning on DIY walking tour, so I'm not sure we'd even have time. Plus my DH really wants to try out the restaurant that specializes in all things GARLIC!. It comes highly recommended. :rolleyes1

Oh Oh, what's this Garlic restaurant in Tallin? I love Garlic...
