The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

I can't believe the first cruise is almost over - I guess if I was on-board I REALLY wouldn't want to belive it :rotfl:

I asked on the main board but if anyone on the first or second trip could share what people are wearing on the excursions involving churches. I'm a little worried since I got an email about shorts. It's NOT me I'm worried about since I'll be wearing capri's I'm more curious about the boys & dh since they'll want to wear shorts.

I find it is almost always best to err on the side of modesty and respect by having my DH or GS wearing long pants and a Hawaiian type shirt. Personally, I pack a really light weight dress with short sleeves that I wear when I visit churches in Europe. I can always add my jacket if it is chilly.

Just my thoughts...

There's your problem, Thinking!;):lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::laughing:

When you check in the day prior to the cruise with the DCL hospitality desk set up at the hotel, they can fully check you in to the cruise only if you bring your passport with you. It doesn't matter whether or not you've already provided the information via online check-in, they need to swipe the actual passport. Otherwise, they can give you an assigned transfer time but you'll still have to actually check in at the port.

Do y'all think it's going to be warm enough for shorts?

I think Andrew said it was 80 in London today!:thumbsup2

I sure hope so, I have my phone's weather outlook programmed for most of the ports & it is now showing 70's for the next 4 days!:thumbsup2

It should only get warmer as we get into July! ::yes::

Maybe,

The issue say with UK and also Northern Europe you just do not know, its so changable, today it was 28c in london, the second Baltic cruise will have a hot and sunnay sailaway party, and you could be in swimwear for it, pools will be nice,

But its changable.

Disney Magic is off Norfolk and level with Norwich now.

If you look at ships maps, I can cover the Disney Magic and my home town on the same map!!!

In Theory it should get warmer, we ''might' have just gone into a heatwave, certainly the sun is here and its hot and no sign of a drop for the next five days. 28C in London, tube like an oven.

But nothing is guaranteed, plan for anything.

We have just past the longest day, so winter is coming!!!!

Anticipate delays during 48-hour strike by London Underground workers from 23 June

Created: June 23, 2010 03:30 GMT
Updated: June 23, 2010 03:30 GMT
Around 1,000 London Underground (LU, subway) maintenance workers affiliated to the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) on 23 June are scheduled to stage a 48-hour work strike from 19.00 (local time). The union has stated that the industrial action will affect the entire LU network, particularly the Piccadilly, Northern and Jubilee lines; however, Transport for London (TFL) has announced that a full service will be maintained. Tube Lines, which employs the maintenance workers, will on 23 June petition the High Court to rule the work stoppage as illegal. An additional 48-hour strike is scheduled to take place from 19.00 on 14 July.

Comment and Analysis

Although TFL and Tube Lines have stated that a good service will operate during the industrial action, delays should be anticipated, including between central London and London Heathrow Airport (LHR), which are connected by the Piccadilly line. However, London Gatwick (LGW), London Stansted (STN) and London Luton (LTN) airports are situated outside the capital and are connected to central London by overland rail services. The strike is likely to lead to an increased demand for taxis, and buses servicing destinations on the affected routes are likely to be crowded.

The High Court in April passed an injunction preventing a work stoppage by members of RMT and employed by Network Rail (NR) after discrepancies were discovered in the RMT's ballot. However, a 24-hour strike by LU maintenance workers on 5 February went ahead, resulting in severe delays on the Circle, District, Hammersmith and City lines. The workers were protesting against a decision by LU's management to implement changes in existing working practices, including the alteration of shift patterns and outsourcing work.

TFL is expected to take over the stake of Tube Lines, which is responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the Northern, Jubilee and Piccadilly lines, by 30 June. Workers employed by the company are demanding assurances on salary, employment and conditions once the sale is complete. The RMT on 22 June rejected a three-year salary offer from Tube Lines.

Travel Advice

Personnel planning to travel on the LU during the work stoppage are advised to consult LU's website for information on delays and cancellations before setting out.
Travellers should monitor the local media and our website for the latest updates on the strike.
Where possible, personnel are advised to pre-book taxis for important journeys during the industrial action.

80 sounds so nice. It is a balmy 103 here today. My family is going to be freezing over there regardless of the weather. I think we will mainly wear jeans and crop pants. Maybe only pack a few pairs of shorts.

I completely understand the respect/modesty thing, dh never wears shorts to church & doesn't like when the boys do in the summer. But for this where (not to sound disrespectful) we're touring for 15-30 minutes & not at a service I know he'll feel differently. Although if it were the vatican he'd wear a tux if he had to

If it's above 60F or 15C dh & ds' will want to wear shorts. Dh is always hot he has a thyroid condition which makes him 'run hot'

I just really think if I am taking DCL Helsinki walking tour & they can tell me how much walking is involved, if I can use a wheelchair or not, then they should be able to tell me if I can wear shorts at the Rock Church.

Hey Disney Fans. We just got off the Star Princess, sailing the Baltics from June 11th to June 21st, 2010. How did Stitch get off your ship to join us in St. Petersburg, Russia for a drink of Vodka. We had a blast.

Anyone doing the All-Inclusive Tivoli ?

Wondering what the advantages are over doing it on your own ??

The tour starts at 8:30 and you can return at 1:30 OR 3:30.

If you returned at 1:30 would you have time for the harbor cruise ?

I hope I didn't sound preachy as that was not my intention. Just like you said, you could call DCL and inquire One other way to find out about the dress code is hopefully, cruisers on the Baltic cruise who visited churches will post their thoughts.
