The 2009 American Idol Thread....

I think that the concern about it feeds the incidence of the activity, and is more damaging than the activity itself.

Not at all. If anything, quite the opposite: I don't think it is good or horrible, while some folks are choosing to paint it using very prejudicial words, "cheap looking", "tacky" and "desperate". That's extreme. I'm "extremely" indifferent towards it.

This isn't OT. This is talking about something that happened on the show. If you head over to the chatty thread, you'll see that they actually chat about what's going on in their lives outside the context of the show.

It's mildly off topic since it's more about dressing trashing in today's society.

And I'm guessing you didn't check out the first line in my signature.....

I have signatures disabled.

Yup, as long as we're not talking about this specific singer, then it is OT.

Yup! I agree 100%. It doesn't mean we don't chat in these threads....its just we chat about stuff relating to AI. The other thread can go way off topic for pages and pages about personal stuff but this one sticks to AI related stuff. So debating the merits of the bikini girl is fine.

Personally I am really glad there are two threads. I like to read others opinions on AI and the contestants but I don't have time to dig through 10 pages a night! Just different strokes for different folks which is why 2 threads is a GOOD thing! This thread has been great so far, keep the comments coming as I am enjoying reading it!!!!!!!

OHHH YEA! The 16 year old that started the grand friends or whatever is awesome in my opinion. I say major judos to her parents for doing a terrific job raising her. Not many 16 year olds would care enough to do that. I, for example, would go visit my grandmas friend at a nursing home (y'all may have heardof it on the news after hurricane katrina.... St. Rita's) all the time back with grandma was alive and almost kicking. I had a friend who lived not far from the home at all. We moved to the other side of the lake, so whenever I went to visit nanny Eunice, my mom would pick up Bridget so I could visit with her. Nursing homes made me really really uncomfortable, so we'd stay outside. I'd go in and tell her hi and kiss her and all, but being around those lonely people and the SMELL just made me depressed. So... kudos to the girl for stepping in and brightening someones day. More kids (heh, like me) need to take after her and think of others and not just themselves. YOU GO GIRL!! Annnnd she has a good voice, too. Thought I'd drop that in there.

I liked both Stevie Wright and the other 16 year old name is Arianna Asfar or something like that. They both seem like great kids.

The 16 year old girl was the one in a pink shirt with a pink cowboy hat, right? She's a huge fan of the new judge and brought along a book of the songs she had written. I do agree with what Kara said though.... for a 16 year old to have a book of songs that thick, it shows alot of motivation but her voice isn't ready for a competition. She didn't sing as bad as I would have, but she can still work on it. Now..... the barracuda girl rocked my socks. She was awesome. I think it's awesome that her mom gave up her singing career to raise a daughter. Good role model I think. We only watch the auditions in my house. Once they get to Hollywood, we'll switch the tv to something else.

The blind guy was very good, not the best. I hope he can get coached so his voice can improve. I also hope that they don
t play the pitty card. Sure, he's blind, but other than that... he's like everyone else. I don't want them to go easy on him or be hard on him because of his vision.

K, with that said... I'm out. I wouldn't want to get banned or something for chatting in a non chatting thread. I'm not sure I could go on with my day if that was to happen.

I don't think they will go easy on the blind guy because Kara said something that were off notes and that maybe he would sound better playing an instrument. Back in season 3 there was a dwarf named Jasmine Artega who made it to Hollywood and she got cut. So when it comes down to it they will focus soley on talent.

So, what did everyone think of last night? Definitely the boys shone last night.....

It's so hard to remember them all, but I liked the guy whose wife died. He seems to have a lot of potential. I also thought Jason Castro's brother was pretty good too which I wasn't expecting. I was cracking up at them....too funny.

I really like Kara so far. I think she has actually upped Paula's game....and their stylists are doing a fantastic job so far because both ladies have looked great!

I thought the men sounded good last night. I liked Jason's brother and it was funny what Simon said about not being able to figure out the Castro brothers.

I finally heard Bikini Girl. Again, I saw nothing "cheap looking", "tacky" or "desperate". Her singing wasn't really that good, though. She probably shouldn't have gotten through to Hollywood week.

Last night was not as exciting as Tuesday. Not as much drama.

I haven't seen anyone yet that I have crowned the new AI although some of the guys have been impressive.

I am looking forward to seeing Kara in action during the live show. I don't think we are going to see her flustered.

I think it's a guy's year again!

I liked the guy whose wife passed away, but I think my sympathy had a bit to play in there. I had to wipe away a few tears. :sad1:

The last girl to go who lost her home to a tornado did well. It sounded somewhat typical, but she had a good voice. I see good things coming from her. My DH and I didn't think her DH looked too thrilled about it, though! Of course, he's now stuck at home with three little kids...

I also liked the girl that lived with her 90 year old Grandma. There was just something very genuine about her, and I could see her going from small town girl to very glam in Hollywood. She's got the whole story going for her.

I felt the same way about her....she definitely deserved to go through to Hollywood. But great word you used, typical......we have seen this same type of contestant time and time again and they do well but aren't American Idol material. Hopefully she realizes this and comes up with a way to differentiate herself from that mold.

Haha, I thought the same thing about her husband

I missed MCas's audition, but if he made it to Hollywood, I will DEFINITELY change my mind about watching this season. I love me some Castro Brothers:cheer2:
