I'll probably not be watching the auditions, despite the promise that they're going to be better this year. I might download them onto my laptop using TiVo Desktop, so I might pick them up during break-time at work, but I'm not sure. It depends on how good folks say they are (and by good I mean good-good, not bad-"good").

I heard that the format has changed for the season. Shorter preliminary national auditions, extended Hollywood week into two weeks, and THREE Wildcard spots! Also heard that Simon, Paula and Randy were not consulted or informed of the addition of the new judge. She just sort of showed up to work! I can't imagine how that could be unless they are referring to early brainstorming/rehearsals before the audition process started.

If I recall correctly, there were articles about DioGuardi's addition to the judging panel about a week before the first set of auditions. I doubt that Simon, Paula and Randy were surprised about it.

I missed almost all of it! Could the girl in the bikini actually sing?
What about the guy at the end with the longish brown hair? His voice didn't match him at all. Reminded me of Clay when he came out and I thought for sure he was going to be terrible.

That's what my DD's said!!! I actually like the new judge.

And to the PP - no, I honestly didn't think the girl in the bikini could sing. She would be a good karaoke singer - she wasn't completely horrible, (like me), but she is not American Idol material.

I won't even comment on what I thought about her showing up in a bikini!!!

The bikini girl's attitude is going to get her nowhere, but it was a gimmack and it worked. She won't make it past hollywood though. She'll have to put some clothes on, and the other contestants wont work with her if she keeps the 'tude. She'll fall apart in the group auditions.

The 17 yr old who makes horror films has a beautiful voice. I was so shocked to hear that come out of him! He was one of my favorites last night, along with the girl early on who sang Barracuda.

I like the new judge. She has spunk, and major talent. Should be an interesting season!

I thought the bikini girl sang good. I do think that Cara (?) started picking on her because of the bikini/jealousy. If I looked like that I'd wear a bikini everywhere!

Also I liked the girl who sang Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay!

I like the new judge. She has spunk, and major talent. Should be an interesting season!

They didn't eliminate them I know that. I think that is one key element to the audition process so I hope they keep them.

In this business, if you don't have the ability to work with other artists you will get nowhere. Singers can't write/produce/perform without other artists so if you act like a one-man-show, you won't live in the music industry. Bikini girl will drown in that with her "i'm better than you" attitude.

I did giggle quite a bit at Ryan's reaction to her though. If I were her mother I'd be mortified. She looked like she had some experience with a pole, if you know what I mean.

Yep, I think Paula can go now.....please.... Yea, the Bikini witch needs to GO, she ain't gonna make it, she made herself look really cheap and like a Bimbo! I liked the blind guy but not sure he will make it thru.

They didn't do the group auditions in Season 7. I really did enjoy them, but I think some really talented singers might get hurt if they get stuck in a bad group. That skill could be learned later if they have the chops......

I really liked Kara. Great addition and she seems to be spicing up the panel!

My favorite audition was the Barracuda girl.

When I saw her I kept thinking, wow her parents must be real happy to know she auditioned in a Bikini... then after she got her ticket she ran out and hugged her mom Great encourage your underage teen to dress in immodest swimwear to a nationally broadcast audition show...

I thought she was 20 years old. Maybe I read her "bio" at the bottom of the screen wrong though. It was definitely a gimmick, but I thought it was a cheap one. Classless, IMO.

I liked Steve (named after Stevie Nicks) & another girl that was on earlier in the show - but I don't think it was Barracuda girl (was she the girl with the tattoos & gauges in her ears?) I thought there was another young girl - very pretty - only 16 I believe.
