The 2008 Baseball Playoff Thread

Where is everybody??? This is the slowest playoff thread ever!!!!!!!!

Come on Phillies - make this our night- it's been way too long.

You're really dissin' Rays fans??? :confused3 I mean we did have 30 sellouts this year, our attendance is way up and we're ahead of you 2 games to 1 at the moment ... and it wasn't Rays fans that BOO'd their team when they lost at home nor did the Rays fans head for the exits like cockroachs running from the light when their team was losing.

The Tampa Bay Rays may not have a lot of experieince and their fan base is only beginnig to evolve but we've got a team good enough to win the World Series (not saying they will but they certainly are capable).

Oh and as for the cowbells, well, the Trop is noisy and unpleasant for visitors anyway so we just thought we'd add a bit more to the mix.

Go Rays!!!

Yeah - Back in the early years they always had the upper deck open - it was closed to make the stadium feel more full.

Peter - we got selected for tickets for game 6 (saturday). Wish us luck - we can buy them at 5 today!

Congrats to the Phillies and their fan nation! 2008 NL Champions.

Sorry, there won't be a game six! I'm hoping Kaz is going to be on tonight and Longo, BJ and Co. will hit about a million shots over that stupid wall. Does the fact that you could get tix for game 6 roll over to the Series?

If they make it to the Series I just may have to come up...I just don't know if I can pay stub hubs prices. I heard that for the ALCS tickets were available outside the stadium for resonable prices, I wonder if that will hold true for the Series?

I'm a Phillies fan too.... no way in heck the Phillies will try to sign Manny. No chance at all. Zero, Nada, Zip... :)

Sorry about the game last night Peter. Everything you asked for happened... except the win. Kaz looked great, potent offence, but somehow the Sox were able to pull through. As soon as Ortiz hit that home run, I knew the Sox were ready to come back and win... even still down 7-4.

Now.. as a Phillies fan, I either wanted the Ray to close it out last night, or the series to go seven... hopefully the Sox win tomorrow and the Ray the next game.

Go Phils!!!

Wow!
What an ending to the Sox / Rays game last night. Could this be the beginning of an '04 repeat? (Sox down 3-1 to Yankees & come back to win in NYC)?

LOL! I guess I need to be a bit more specific in my wishes!

Kaz was great and the hitting early fantastic but as much as I hate to admit it I think Maddon thought it was over and got stuck on Balfour and Wheeler ... and Wheeler, I never want to see him again!

But I give great credit to the Sox. It's pretty amazing that they didn't give up when there were really no signs of life. They're a tough, tough bunch.

We have 'Big Game' James going next and I hate to think we need a complete game from him but hopefully the Rays will give him 20 runs this time ... And Win!

Go Rays.

Was even bigger...were down 0-3 and came back. Hoping not again! :)
(Actually a Braves fan, but have to pull for Tampa as close by)

Glad to see a fellow Braves fan on the boards. :thumbsup2
And Red Sox nation, you guys did well. The Sox still played an excellent series, played one of the best come from behind games in playoff history, and made the final decision come down to the wire.

Rays fans...congrats on winning the AL title and advancing to the World Series.

Just realized...where are all our excited Rays' fans? You'd think this place would be jamming with T.Bay fever by now. :confused3
Come to think of it, didn't seem like too many Red Sox fans on board last week during the possible comeback in the ALCS. Either they were holding their breath until all was said & done, or our Sox fans are vanishing.

I know this is election year & all, but is baseball flopping this October?

Here's one! I just found this thread!!!!!! :thumbsup2

I am skillfully wasting away this hour so that 5pm will get here quickly... we won a chance to get tickets in the lottery. GHHHHAAAAA! We found out this morning right as we were leaving for work. After being at the game Saturday, watching last night with a group at a local bar, and getting the good news this morning, I'm not quite sure how I have a voice today.

I actually started crying last night (yes, I am a woman) in the bar after Aki hit the bag and put that ball in his back pocket. And all morning, watching Mike & Mike/SportsCenter... I would just start tearing up. Did you see Joe Maddon's interview with Peter Gammons? Forget it. I'm getting choked up thinking about it!

Heard in the car just now that we're going with Shieldsy on Game 1.

I am a very excited Rays fan.

GO RAYS!!!!!!!!!
  party:

I hear you - the year my team makes it and no one cares. I need a break from all the election junk so come on baseball!!

Good luck Rays!!! I hope your guys are nicer than the Dodgers. See you wednesday!!

I think it's good for baseball having Tampa Bay and Philadelphia in the final dance. Two new faces; one who has never been to the World Series, and another who has not been in some time. Both have incredible fan bases, as the League Championship series' showed us. The last time Philly was in the WS, I was pulling against them because they just beat out my Atl Braves in the NLCS (sorry Philly fans). But now, I'm really happy to see either team win. This should be a great series, and am happy for both cities and fan bases.

Thanks!! I agree it's nice to see some new teams in the WS. Philly is pumped I tell you. It is so exciting to experience.:cheer2:
