The 2008 Baseball Playoff Thread

Tew, you heard Shieldsy? I just heard on ESPN they thought Kaz...I'm wondering why not Sonny, he missed his last rotation and has been hot as well.

Anyway, I posted little and tried to always be respectful when taking about the ALCS because I was so darned nervous. But I had a GREAT, GREAT day today.

My wife just told me I HAVE to take off my 9=8 t-shirt for washing soon though!

I did hear Shields... I was listening to 770espn radio out of Ft. Myers. But when I checked the website, it didn't give a name.

I agree about Sonny, and I'll tell you what, he was abolutely a leader in the dugout last night; you could tell just by watching him on tv. I may be slightly biased as he is my favorite Ray. :lovestruc

My DH just checked in and he was successful in getting tix for games one & two. :wizard:

However, I am somewhat concerned at the fact that DH has indeed got a fever and the only perscription is more cowbell. For game two, we're sitting 10 sections apart. :rotfl: What's he going to do when it's over? He won't have anything to obsess over unless the Bucs turn up the juice a bit. ;)

So let the countdown begin... leaving work for the Trop in less than 45 hours...

GO RAYS!

Oh I'm so jealous...I may try to get up for game 6 or 7 (if it goes that long) but scalpers prices are high and my luck in the lottery probably isn't great.

I noticed that Sonny was a real cheerleader last night as well. Did tou hear Price talk after the game? He mentioned that Kaz, whom I noticed had moved to the bullpen late in the game, was really lobbying to get into the game. That tells me that maybe we don't have to worry about his character!

I'm glad to hear that DH and aren't the only two worried about Kaz. After his remarks about no one coming out to support them... he's only had butts in seats and hasn't managed to perform in front of them. We were starting to think he wasn't the real deal.

Price is incredibly impressive. Add him to the list of young, talented, well-spoken, level-headed RAYS. :goodvibes And Joe Maddon can be on that list too, though I'm sure he'd be modest and argue the "young" bit.

GO RAYS!!!

I rooted for the Rays sorta by default. That's the only major league baseball team I've ever seen in person. We vacationed in Maderia Beach and went to Tropicana back in 2006 and again this past summer. So it was nice to watch the tv last night and know how those fans in the nose-bleed section feel and remember how "LOUD" those cow bells are. I even still have my plastic cups from the field. Think I'll dust them off for the world series.

Tew, I just saw on the St. Pete Times website that Kaz is scheduled to start game one...Hopefully we'll see the same guy who pitched in Boston!

Promom, I just drank from my plastic Rays cup with my dinner!!!

Go Rays!!!

Official Rays site still shows "TBA"... hmmm... popcorn::

The Times article is now gone...Hmmm. Sounds like they're still talking.

Really, I have confience in all of them although I prefer Shields to pitch at home given his away record...

I had read yesterday that Kaz was going to pitch, but now tbo isn't saying that anymore.

Just want to give you Tampa fans a heads up.... do NOT be surprised if HALF the people at the game are Phillies fans. I saw that there were many Red Sox fans at your games, and I can tell you that fans from Philly travel to sporting events in far greater numbers than Boston fans.

A few years ago I was at a Dolphins / Eagles game and I would say that Eagles fans outnumbered Dolphins fans. And when it was Eagles / Pats at the Superbowl, it is estimated that 70% of the crowd in attendance were Eagles fans.

Since the Phillies have not been in a WS since 1993, I am pretty sure you folks in Tampa can expect more of the same.

BTW, while am primarily a Philies fan, and want them to win, I do enjoy the Rays.... We had such a blast there this past 4th of July against the Royals. Man that place can get loud with the cowbells! It was only half full and it was almost deafeningly loud at times.

Another awesome performance by Cole Hamels!

Chase gave the team a jump start and everything went well from there.

Now if only they could hit with runners in scoring position, maybe we wouldn't have so much heartburn on the way to the win, but I'll take it anyway.

Go PHILS!!!!

I agree Ted - w/ Meyers we need to score some more runs. The game was a little too close for comfort.

Let's Go Phillies:cheer2:

Rollins said he was happy for the long break so him and Howard could find their swing again. I hope they find it by tonight. Howard looked really mad at himself last night. He hasn't had a single HR in the playoffs.

Game one was a great game (though not thrilled with the result)... I can take losing to Cole Hammels, though... he's just incredible. I'm glad to see Shieldsy on the mound for us tonight. I truly think Scott Kazmir is over rated. The Rays also need to get their bats going tonight... we left so many guys on base last night. Here's some fun pics from last night (sorry if they turn out really big... I don't do this very often):

So many crazy Rayhawks, so little time! I hope to get more pics tonight...

Our seats are better tonight, so again... hopefully better pics.

This is my WS version of Where's Waldo... our beloved Joe Maddon is talking to Chris Berman... they are there, I swear!;)

NOT FAIR- you are going to two games??? I couldn't even get tix- unless I went to stub hub for @ $600 a ticket.

Your so lucky. btw - what are the blue mohawks for?

Yes, we went to both games. Not traveling to Philly, though. :sad2:

Believe it or not, we were just lucky in the ticket lottery. We signed up as soon as we could (when we clinched), and we managed to get picked for all three series. We went to one game vs. the White Sox, one vs. the Red Sox & the first two vs. the Phillies.

The "Rayhawks" are a craze... they guys on the team started shaving their heads into mohawks, and so did Joe... and then the fans started doing it. And of course, some of the fans just decided to creative with it.

We tried the lottery for all our series too and got nothing. I don't even know anyone that got lottery tix. Congrats to you.

Good games so far. I must say I like the Ray guys sooo much better than the Dodgers- they had major dude.

Thanks for the info on the mohawks. That's one fad I would not jump on:eek:

Let's hope it doesn't rain too much tom. Go Phils:cheer2:
