The 2008 Baseball Playoff Thread

My motivations might be slightly suspect, but I'm rooting for the boys in blue. I'm a Baltimore fan and live near a bunch of Philly fans. I love to be able to rub their nose in the fact that the last time they went to the World Series we beat them... and that even though we've sucked since 1998, we've got 3 World Series titles and they've got 1.

It's almost as much fun as reminding them that the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl.

Yeah...My DH was espescially frustrated since McCarver used to play for the Phillies, you'd have thought he'd have at least had some of the history right.

We too wish they would just go with the regular hometown announcers for these series as well....sure it might be a bit biased at times, but games are played at both teams home parks, so it will even out...plus I think it would be great for these announcers and broadcast teams to be able to join in the celebrations too. They are there announcing every other home game during the season, it just seems so weird not to have them there for such a big game...

I always get a kick out of the out-of-town announcers who call the game with little to no knowledge of the teams.
Recently heard on TBS and Fox:
"They will have to keep him close because Pat Burrell is a fast baserunner!":lmao: (for little league)
Last Night: "Ryan Madson has the best Change-Up on the Phillies"
(umm... except for that Cole Hamels guy who pitched last inning... you know... the second best Change up in the League!)

I swear they use a Baseball themed Magic 8 Ball to pick their commentary.
"Will he bunt here?... All signs point to yes!"
"Will we see an Intentional Walk... Don't Count on it"

Oh it's not even that. When TBS decided to dump the Braves on their national feed, they selected a group of guys to do their broadcast and some of them weren't even baseball announcers! At least with the NLDS with the Phillies, they had Joe Simpson, who is a Braves announcer, but Joe spoke highly of the Phillies and saw plenty of them through division series.

And they should get a hometown crew.....combined from announcers from both teams involved. I appreciate a knowledgeable commentator who knows the team and players. McCarver is as biased as any hometown play-by-play guy.

I forgot to add that during the Phillies-Brewers series, the play-by-play guy kept saying Ugly when referring to Uttley. We did instant replay on Tivo every time to be sure and it sounded like it to us. It wasn't Joe. He knows better.

Well... Myers didn't quite step up on the mound, but WOW... 3 for 3 with 3 RBI from a guy who is one of the worst hitting pitchers in the league!

Great game overall... it was about time the offense broke out and put up a big number!

Lidge comes through again, though he's starting to remind me a bit of Mitch Williams in '93 and Tug McGraw in '80... let's hope ultimately he comes down on the side of McGraw!

Go PHILS... I hope they don't have to come home... Phillies in 5!

Yay Phillies! It's hard to watch these games because I still don't know who I want to win! On one hand I want to see Joe Torre's team do well, but on the other hand, I want to see my dad's team win as well! Oh well, as long as one of them wins the World Series I'll be happy!! I don't want to see either of the AL teams win.

Off to LA. They showed Sandy Kaufax in the stands. He looks great.

Wow!! Nothing can demoralize a pitcher better than serving one up to the other pitcher... BUT THREE??
Brett Myers looks absolutely comical at the plate. Like Chicken Little AKA: "DON'T SWING!"

Let's hope all the cards keep falling our way!
GO PHILLIES!!!

Eta: I'm watching the Rays/Bos game and I'm hearing pots and pans. Am I really hearing pots and pans or those drum noise makers or both? Just curious.

who knows...i am afraid the stadium will collapse....there have never been people in the upper deck:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

So if the Sox make it back to the World Series yet again, I'd like to see Boston win the WS title IN Boston, so the on-field celebration can actually be held at Fenway.

Oh My Gosh you are so right about Meyers looking like Chicken little. He looks so funny.

That was a great game. Let's hope they keep it up in LA!!

ONE MORE TO GO!!!! Let's go Phillies

What a great game last night - you go Shane!!

You're really dissin' Rays fans??? :confused3 I mean we did have 30 sellouts this year, our attendance is way up and we're ahead of you 2 games to 1 at the moment ... and it wasn't Rays fans that BOO'd their team when they lost at home nor did the Rays fans head for the exits like cockroachs running from the light when their team was losing.

The Tampa Bay Rays may not have a lot of experieince and their fan base is only beginnig to evolve but we've got a team good enough to win the World Series (not saying they will but they certainly are capable).

Oh and as for the cowbells, well, the Trop is noisy and unpleasant for visitors anyway so we just thought we'd add a bit more to the mix.

Go Rays!!!
