I don't know if this has already been mentioned in the thread or not. I was watching Idol Wrap on Fox Reality yesterday and Nigel Lithgoe was on. It would seem that we're stuck with these stupid themes; this week will be songs from the seventies, the next week will be songs from the eighties and then as we go into the top twelve, the mentors will start. Nigel wouldn't yet reveal who this years' mentors will be.

Are there spoilers out there yet as to which mentors will be on the show this season?

Yes.

Though that's not saying much: The prediction formula indicated that any of the twelve boys could have been eliminated, and that any two of nine of the twelve girls could have been eliminated. The formula yields more definitive predictions once the number of contestants gets lower.

We're getting only 4 celebrity coaches this year. I think the reason for themes is that they are selling them on Itunes meaning royalities and more cash for certain people.

Regarding "theme" weeks...
For some reason I've gotten the impression that AI has a book of songs that the contestants can select from. So, while a contestant might like Allison Kraus or David Bowie or whomever, if those songs aren't in the band's "book", they simply aren't available (for whatever reason). Like, why didn't anybody do the Beatles or Dave Clark Five or Herman's Hermits or Motown for the "60s" show? Because, for some reason, those songs were not in the 'book' for that show. Maybe the rights aren't available to AI, maybe the producers are flacking certain songwriters/performers, etc.

Ugh, I hate it too. One of the best parts is the beginning, they could sing whatever they felt like. You could really get a sense of their personality and style. Not anymore.
