I agree. It bothers me that they're finally allowed to play instruments and now they're essentially getting criticized for playing them. Should Billy Joel or Elton John not play the piano when they perform? Granted, Joel and John don't play for every single song, but Jason playing the guitar for only two songs isn't something to criticize him over...

i just think it was a bad idea all together for them to allow them to play instruments.

/conspiracy theory/I think Simon complimenting Danny is reverse psychology....he wants him off but knows the power of Vote for the Worst so he appears complimentary in order to lull his fans in to a false sense of security.

Yeah, I'm not sure it was a good idea either. I think in a lot of cases it might make people sing worse than usual because they're dividing their attention between singing and playing their instrument. There are exceptions, of course. I thought Brooke sang well when she played the piano in the Hollywood round.

it was something like danny said he understood their comments and even agreed that last week was a disaster, and simon said "oh you agree with me? did you just say you agree?" and danny said "...ish"

Good point! Maybe they thought it would be more entertaining for the audience/people watching at home? I don't think it has been.
