I have anotherr question for all you POFQ fans. Do they have music playing around the grounds of the resort? I'm trying to decide if iwant to save and stay at POFQ or splurge for WL . Having the worst time deciding.

Yes, certainly around the main areas. I don't think they do out by the more remote accommodation buildings though, which is probably a good thing.

I know what you mean by this being a tough decision! We have stayed at both POFQ and WL, they were actually our last two recent trips. I just loved the WL, so I do prefer that over POFQ. But, if you are trying to cut down on costs, then you cannot beat POFQ! It is our favorite mod, and we haved stayed at all of them except CSR. It is a lovely property, which is very convenient in size, but yet peaceful and quiet. The pool is terrific for kids!!! The rooms really are not much smaller than WL, but of course the beds are the full size versus the queens, and there isn't a balcony. But, I would not hesitate to recommend POFQ to anyone. We are actually going back next Jan. I originally wanted to stay at AKL, but we want to stay 10 nights instead of 7, and DH said if we stay 10 nights, then we have to stay at a mod. So, I would rather stay longer than stay at AKL. I will just have to wait until next time. Good luck with your decision!

Yes POFQ is much more manageable than CBR. We stayed at CBR in 2004 & we did not like the fact that you have 5 bus stops at night!! At POFQ everything is close & the buses are great. I liked CBR ok but much prefer POFQ!! Is it May yet??

Ok, I had posted a separate thread, but I am going to delete it as this seems to be the most appropriate place to ask questions regarding POFQ.

1. Room Requests. Is there a particular number to call or fax these to?

2. Smoking rooms. WHEN did the POFQ go nonsmoking? Have there been renovations since that point in time (bedding, mattresses, etc). We have some severe asthma and allergies in our group that cannot tolerate any hint of a lingering smoke smell and are trying to plan accordingly.

3. MAGNOLIA/FLOWERS. Again, due to allergies and asthma, flowers are not great. Will they be in bloom at the end of April? Are there flowers everywhere in the resort or would some sections be better than others to escape the pollen? We chose POFQ because I remembered a lot of flowers at POR, but now I have read that POFQ has quite a few too.

4. ELEVATORS. Are there any?? We will have two strollers and I would rather avoid carrying them up stairs!

Your best bet is to have requests on your Disney reservation. If you booked through a travel agent, have him/her do it. If you booked through WDTC, call 407-W-DISNEY and have the requests put in your reservation. This is the best way. If you call the "direct number" to the resort you won't get the resort ... it'll be a call center like when you call the main Disney number, so don't bother trying to call the resort. Just call the main Disney number. As far as faxes, there has been information floating around that resorts immediately throw away room request faxes.

All WDW resorts went smoke-free as of June 1, 2007.

I have no idea. But here's a thought ... if too many flowers will blow the vacation for you, consider staying at a Value resort, which will have more "hardscaping" and less landscaping/vegetation.

4. ELEVATORS. Are there any?? We will have two strollers and I would rather avoid carrying them up stairs!

Each building has exactly one elevator. Each building is rather large, so it could be a long walk from your room to the elevator. For example, look at this map: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/portorleans.jpg Look at Building 2. It's kinda tough to see on this map, but look at the long part of the building that runs vertically on this map. Now look where it joins the horizontal part of the building (he part nearest the river/top of the map). The elevator is right at that juncture. If your room is at the end of the building nearest the bottom of the map, you'd actually walk from the food court, PASS your room by a good margin, get the elevator, then walk all the way back, etc.

Common sense says that the fewer requests you have, the greater the chance that you'll get your requests. From here, it looks like you'd like to request a first floor room or a room near an elevator in a formerly non-smoking building that's not too near flowers. That's a lot of requests. Try to prioritize as best you can.

Wow, great map of the original Port Orleans! I've been looking for something with the 'road names' listed for some time, and even the resort CMs said that such a map did not exist. I guess this must have been from an old 1990's resort handout sheet, given that Bonfamille's is still listed? I don't suppose anyone's got a full copy of it have they? Did they ever do a similar map for Dixie Landings?

LOL, yes, its alot, thats why I wanted to ask questions here to help me prioritize! Thank you for taking the time for your thorough response!

I do think the flowers will be fine, I am a bit more concerned about EPCOT with the flower and garden thing, but I was just asking in case any particular areas were just saturated with floral gardens kwim? Thanks for the suggestion for the values to avoid it, but I talked to my dad (the one with the asthma) and he wants to try POR, so I guess since he is paying we will listen to him

I am really excited to stay here! We walked around POFQ in 2002 during our honeymoon at POR, and it looked really nice. I am excited for the 'small' resort with the kids! Will seem much smaller than POP last time!

Does the water ferry thing to DTD run pretty frequently this time of year? In 2002, post 9/11, the parks were still pretty dead (this was when CBR wasnt even OPEN) and the boats seemed kinda few and far between. But they were so worth it for a 'different' mode of transportation after a day on buses! I cant wait to use them!

Is the playground nice here? Doubt we will spend much time there but its always nice to have a place to let them wind down at night....

We stayed in building 5 last April & requested the same building for May. It is a great location & our room was one room away from the river view. I will be glad to be there no matter what building. We did not smell any smoke what so ever & I am sensitive to smoke also. Have a great time!!

We have stayed at POFQ in September 2006 and 2007 and we will be back in 2008...we really enjoy this resort. We have several in our party who are asthmatic and highly sensitive to smoke. We have never had an issue at this resort...we have stayed in building 7 and 3.

The playground is probably ideal for a 4 year old...not huge, very contained, and just about his speed. Our older kids prefer the playground at POR, but the little ones liked POFQ better.

I agree. We like the WL the best also, but when we go just for the parks and not Christmas, we always stay at FQ.

They are the outside buildings, but I know this resort is much smaller, just wondering what it is like 'in person'. Its so hard to judge on a map!

We stayed in building 3 and loved the location. We thought it was one of the most convenient resorts we have ever visited (and we have stayed at every WDW resort with the exception of SSR and SoG). I really think you will find that at POFQ everything is practically next door!
