so there are no "preferred" buildings (like at CBR) but only preferred views... so i can request a specific building and not be charged extra if i don't care what side of that building my room is on?

That is correct.
I asked for Building 4, I didnt care if I was near the pool( less noise) and this resort is so much more compact than CBR its an easy walk to get anywhere and even walking to POR isnt a big deal.

We stayed at POFQ last year for the first time and loved it there.

We had a room in bldg. 3 on the 2nd floor. After looking at the resort map, bldg. 4 seems closer to the bus stop.

Is bldg. 4 a better bet for being closer to the pool and bus? Is it a non-smoking bldg? :confused3

Building 4 does have smoking rooms, we stayed in a non-smoking room on the third floor and never smelled smoke.I cant stand the smwll but it was never an issue. It was convient to the bus we just walked down La Salle St. and over to the buses (our room was just about where the word Street is on the Map below).

We are staying at POFQ and have CRT breakfast PS for 8:25a. I know the park opens at 9:00am so I am trying to figure out if we should drive to MK or take the bus. I think they start running 1 hour before opening.
Any thoughts?
What time should we plan to be at the bus stop?
How long does it take to get from POFQ to MK by bus?

Thanks,
Wendy

If you have your car, why not use it to go to the parks. It makes things so much easier, and even if you get a "bad" parking spot, you are never more than an aisle's length away from the tram. Parking is free, and if you want to leave the park in the middle of the day and rest at the hotel or hop to another park, it is so much easier and less time consuming to drive.

Sorry, but there seems to be some conflicting information. Which buildings are smoking. I would like nonsmoking close to the pool. That would be #5,right?
Thanks

That would be correct strings. Buildings 2,4, and 6 are smoking buildings.

Wendy,

If memory serves, there are buses running early for those who have PS at the park restaurants for character B-fasts (CP & CRT at MK, DBreakfastosaurus at AK). Maybe someone who's been recently could confirm.

funmaymom, It is a short bus ride to MK after all the POR stops are made and you exit the resort parking area. I would get to the bus stop at about 7:45am. If you take the car (seeing you are from my home state of Georgia I am assuming you are) I would use the car that day and get going on your own at about 7:30am to 7:45am.

10/29-11/6. It's our first time staying at the hotel.
We could only get into the standard room category, the
view isn't that important to us, but we would really like to
get a king bedded room. Does anyone know if there are less
rooms with king beds? Are they harder to get?
Also, is anyone familiar with the Scat Bar that is at the hotel?
What kind of food do they serve there?
Thanks so much...I am getting so excited....Don't know how I
will make it through the next few months.

Also, we have tickets to the Halloween party on 10/29...
anyone else going that night?

I will be there during the same time :) I will be there from 10/30 - 11/8....We will be going to the Halloween party on 10/31 - I can't wait....it's such a great time - You'll love it!

I was also curious about the same questions as you - we requested a King sized bed and a room with a waterview but like is always said here on the board they are only requests (I'm kind of curious what our chance will be).

When the Hurricane is mentioned, New Orleans should come to mind. The Hurricane originated in New Orleans during WWII because of the whiskey shortage. Rum was plentiful and became the platform for a great number of fun and unique combinations. Our special hurricanes are poured into a hurricane lamp shaded glass, which distinguishes the presentation, while tickling the palate with a bountiful of flavors. Taste one of our several recipes and Laisser Le Bon Temp Rouler!
Let the Good Times Roll!

King Cake 1800 - simply colorful presented cocktail made with Jose Cuervo 1800 and the traditional Mardi Gras colors $7.25

We are at POFQ Aug 21-30 and since the parks seem to close a bit earlier at this time I was wondering how late the pool was open ? I think I read somewhere that the hot tub closes at 2 am, is that the same for the pool?

Wow is all I can say!

My parents and I just went to AAA with the intentions of pricing out a package stay for July 28th (not too far away) until August 3rd at Pop Century and walked out with a package for Port Orleans French Quarter!!!!

It's amazing how we went from just getting the prices of Pop to actually booking the room at POFQ. I had always heard how great the resort was, but know barely anything about it.

We had gotten the price for POP when my dad goes "Well how much are the other resorts" and the AAA employee asks what one would you like to check out. After about 10 seconds I just blurt out Port Orleans French Quarter LOL. We have stayed at CBR but that was 10+ years ago when I was maybe 6 or 7 at the time. Since then we have never stayed at a moderate, sticking almost ALL the stays at Value resorts except some years at the Dolphin and another at the Grand Floridian.

Well at first I was kind of nervous, but after checking out this thread and AllEars, the resort looks AMAZING. It looks so NICE and peaceful yet not totally out of the way! In the next few days I may have a question or two, right now I'm going to re-read the thread and try to understand more!

Sorry for the long post ...excited!

Mike

Hey Mike, we'll be there with you 7/30-8/8 at POFQ! I've stayed at POR and loved it-so I'm sure I'll love POFQ too!

Quick question for you POFQ pro's!!

We want to send a fax with our "preferences" for room location. I know nothing is 100% promised and delivered, so I wanted to know whats the best thing to say to show your not trying to demand a certain location, etc...

We are booked with a standard room so we know that theres a good chance of a "parking lot" view which I have read isn't bad at all.

My parents and I are looking for a ground floor room fairly close to the main registration building and food court. Like I said, we only sleep in the room so as long as we don't have airplaces landing in front of it (you get the point right lol) the view isn't the determining factor.

Any help on what to say would be great and also a building to mention in the fax!

Thanks

Just subscribing....we moved our ressies over to POFQ just this morning since they've released more rooms to the Free Dining Plan deal. We WERE staying at Pop Century, but were a little nervous? about staying at a value resort since we never had. It's a surprise to my husband and my mother in law that we've moved over to POFQ, arranged by me and my father in law. He was generous enough to pay for the upgrade to a moderate, too! Hooray for Poppy! LOL So now I must go and read this big thread to find out all about POFQ!

You will love it - we were there from July 3- 7 and had a wonderful time. My DGD loved the pool
