That's the first time we had to wear a poncho in Disney! A Mar./April '11 TR DONE 9/5

Can't believe Soarin was a walk-on, practically unheard of!

I too saw Harry Potter, not the midnight showing though. I enjoyed it, it was not as emotional as the book. We giggled at the "adult" gang at the end of the movie. Alek's comment was "Apparently in the Wizarding World facial hair equals middle age". We also laughed every time Seamus had a line, we couldn't for the life of us understand what he was saying! :laughing:Overall it was enjoyable and I was sad to see it end.

I have not seen HP yet but plan to within the next few weeks.

Soarin' a walk-on?! Now you know the rain was keeping people away!

If it's not a hurricane, I'd attempt the parks too! We had rain on 2009, but still went to AK. It was pretty empty, and EE was a non-wait too!

The piggy bank game was fun, we played it in January:thumbsup2

Did you see Harry Potter in 3-D? The 3-D glasses the movie theaters are handing out are so cute. I really wanted to see the midnight showing but I made plans with my friends to see it for my birthday so I have to wait another week.

The piggy bank game looks fun. I am obsessed with piggy banks, I have a bunch here at home. :)

I LOVE MIDNIGHT PREMIRES!!!!! I went to the midnight premire for deathly hallows as well :) I've been to the movie midnight premires ever since the 4th one came out (and the reason i went then was because we were going to disney the next day and i didn't want to wait a whole week, probably more like a coupe of weeks before i saw it- and the goblet of fire was my favorite book) I started reading the books right after the fourth book came out so i started going to the midnight book premires starting with the fifth one. I also love the fans that come out to the midnight stuff, they are so much fun and so into it. I am always the most wrapped up in the movie when at that midnight premire because i am watching with fellow uber harry potter fans. at this premire we were sitting in front of three people who were dressed up like the potter puppet versions of harry, ron and hermione. it was soooooo cool!!!!! Everyone kept wanting to get pics of them, i felt like i was at disney except with harry potter characters. Someone also had a cool costume with you-know-who and people kept following him wanting pics as well. I am definitely a super fan though. These books have been in my life since i was 9 years old (i'm 20 now) so it feels so weird to have it be over but this was a great last movie though :) I went at midnight for the 2d showing and then a couple of days later we went to the 3d showing at the new AMC in our town. Our movie critic who is hard to impress did not like the 3d version but we didn't have any issues with it. Then again the reviewer admitted he never read the books so that was really annoying to me. funny about the transformers people as well! my brother kind of has that attitude about harry potter as well (but in a less snotty way)

weird the park was so empty as well!!!! Jealous of you walking onto soarin. usually when we are there and it rains soarin is worse than normal!

Getting stuck on the monorail is never fun, but in a rain storm is must have been terrible. Glad to hear that you weren't stuck up there for long.

You've got to try Mission: SPACE one of these days. I really don't think it's that bad of a ride. Tower of Terror, Rockin' Roller Coaster and Everest are all more intense than it IMO. If you can handle any of those, I think you could so SPACE.

Yay, no wait for Soarin', I don't think that has ever happened for us! I love Living with the Land, it's so relaxing!

You really have to try Mission Space! Just keep your eyes looking forward, don't close them and don't look around, or you will get disoriented, and that's what causes the motion sickness! I was terrified to try the orange side, I thought I'd get sick everywhere, but I just looked straight ahead and I was fine! Now I love it! :thumbsup2

What a great way to spend a rainy day, it looks like you still had fun. A walk on to Soarin and enjoying Innoventions! We did the piggy bank game too, it was kinda fun. Did you see the Segways, we tried that too.

CM's is fun, with great character interaction too. Sorry the day was so dark and rainy.

It was great running into you, but I didn't want to interrupt your conversation so just a quick hi. :)

I saw HP Imax 3d..Holy Cow!!!! The movie was great and I cried several times. My brother and I went to WWOHP yesterday after I got my AP and rode Journey with a zero wait of course thank to him! :) It was crazy in the land though!

I loved the latest HP movie but wish I hadn't seen it in 3D. Just made it hard to watch. I really want to go to WWOHP now!!! I've actually started reading the books over again from the beginning.

Love the Piggy Bank adventure. I wish they sold those piggy banks. I would definitely buy one! I'm glad the rain didn't stop you from having fun at Epcot.

Yeah, we didn't see the 3D version. We survived seeing all the other ones the "old fashioned" way. Plus, we're not too big on 3D movies in general. Is it really necessary? :confused3 I hope you get to go to WWOHP soon-it is awesome and a great way to get a Harry fix now that the books/movies are over.

Lucky you for seeing Harry Potter at the Midnight Premiere. I begged my mom to go, but we waited too long until she said yes and there were NO PASSES LEFT. I did end up going to see it in 3D two days after and I must say it was AMAZING! I mean, some things were missing as always, some that angered me, but I loved it. The end almost had me in tears and it was the part I most anticipated. I want to see it again in regular movie quality. :goodvibes I can't wait until Pottermore is finally up and running. Signed up already, Sarah?

Thank goodness you weren't stuck on the monorail for an hour like said and you got to experience a practically empty AND opened EPCOT! Epicness! :thumbsup2 Then, a Soarin' with little line that's crazy! Like I've been on Soarin' when the wait wasn't long, but still that sounds short. (: The Sum of All Thrills sounds like a lot of fun. Probably once I go to WWOHP and go on the Forbidden Journey, I'll have to do that. ::yes:: Also, don't think these generations are more daring than past ones, trust me, it is becoming a rarity now for kids to go on many rides. :/ Well not really, but whatever LOL

Can't wait to read about your next adventure! :mickeyjum

My two sisters are bigger HP fans than me, so they were checking pretty regularly to see when the tickets went on sale. Once they did we got them right away. After seeing your comment I went to the Pottermore site and submitted my email so they can send notification of when it's up. It does sound really cool.

Usually for Soarin we go right there and get FPs (my sisters and dad like to do Mission:Space first) so the line is pretty short but that was even shorter than when we've used fastpasses!

Soooo funny that you said this because Justin went to see Transformers the night before HP opened, when he got home he was talking about how funny it was to see people camping out in tents just to see HP  He did end up going to HP too, but he wasn't about to camp out for it!

Sorry about all the rain, but you picked the best park for it, lots of indoor stuff to do in Epcot :thumbsup2

I thought the Piggy Bank Adventure was fun too, I had Jared with me when I did it though so I didn't feel quite so silly playing a kids game as an adult ;)

haha, that is funny! When we got there, there were a lot of high school aged girls in front of us with computers/cards/snacks. I wondered how long they were there. The nice thing about the theater we went to was that they had assigned seating so it didn't really make too much of a difference how early we got there.

It was still kind of a bummer that we couldn't enjoy the normally nice Florida sunshine. :guilty: Oh well.

haha, yeah, we probably looked goofy doing it since we didn't have any kids with us but whatever.

I haven't seen the last HP yet but I totally plan to. I just need to watch the 6th one and Deathly Hallows pt. 1 first :rolleyes1 lol

Wow Epcot really must have been dead to have such a short Soarin wait! I bet it was nice though not having long waits or too many people.

Sum of All Thrills sounds really cool. I've always been curious about that one, I'll have to try it next time I go. And the piggy bank game sounds cute, definitely better than being out in the miserable rain that day!

Wow, you haven't seen HBP or DH1 yet?! Atleast now once you see part 1 you won't be left hanging. :)

It was SO dead. I really wish I would've taken some pictures during the monorail ride around the park.

Sum of All Thrills turned out to be pretty fun-you should give it a try!

Can't believe Soarin was a walk-on, practically unheard of!

I too saw Harry Potter, not the midnight showing though. I enjoyed it, it was not as emotional as the book. We giggled at the "adult" gang at the end of the movie. We also laughed every time Seamus had a line, we couldn't for the life of us understand what he was saying! :laughing:Overall it was enjoyable and I was sad to see it end.

My favorite part of the ending was their kids. LOL. So cute! Hope I didn't spoil that for anyone who hasn't seen it yet! It is sad that it's all over now. I really wonder what JK Rowling will do next, other than the Pottermore website.

I have not seen HP yet but plan to within the next few weeks.

Soarin' a walk-on?! Now you know the rain was keeping people away!

Yeah, I don't think anybody wanted to go out that early when it was so miserable.

If it's not a hurricane, I'd attempt the parks too! We had rain on 2009, but still went to AK. It was pretty empty, and EE was a non-wait too!

The piggy bank game was fun, we played it in January:thumbsup2

So did you ride EE in the rain? That could be interesting!

We didn't do the 3D version. Someone I work with did though, and she said how the glasses were like Harry Potter glasses.

I think we first started getting into the books when Goblet of Fire came out too. I vaguely remember how we went to Barnes and Noble the day after it came out (or the day of, I don't remember) and they didn't have any left! Goblet of Fire was the first HP movie I saw in the theaters too. Fitting, since that is my favorite book!

That is so fun about all the people in costumes. I don't think we saw any too crazy-just the typical wizard robes. Though I think there might've been a couple girls dressed as house elves. LOL.

weird the park was so empty as well!!!! Jealous of you walking onto soarin. usually when we are there and it rains soarin is worse than normal!

It was a little bit busier later on when we used our fastpasses but still not too bad.

Wow, really? I love all three of those rides. We'll see if I can muster up the courage to try it someday.

:thumbsup2

I love Living with the Land too. I think the greenhouses are so interesting!

I think that's part of what I'm afraid of-the disorientation. If I ever do decide to do it I'm doing the wimpy side first!

Yes, we did see the Segways. I think that had a pretty long line though. It would be fun to try sometime.

It stinks the weather was so bad but we survived. :)

It was nice seeing you too-sorry I couldn't do more than say hi. I hear there is going to be another event coming up in August-did you get anything about that?

I saw HP Imax 3d..Holy Cow!!!! The movie was great and I cried several times. My brother and I went to WWOHP yesterday after I got my AP and rode Journey with a zero wait of course thank to him! :) It was crazy in the land though!

haha, you are turning into a HP fan I think! ;) Aww, so jealous you guys went to WWOHP. I want to ride Forbidden Journey again. I love that ride! My dad was asking about the attendance lately, now that the movie is out. I wonder if it's been busier because of the movie hype.

Happy Saturday DIS friends!

Only one more week left of teaching summer school, woo hoo! Then hopefully I can finally wrap up this trip report.

Since I don't officially have a countdown for myself (there might be some changes for our future trips...we'll see.), I'm going to say that my sister checks in for her CP in less than a month! So crazy. As I've said a bunch of times, I would really like to go visit her sometime. Yes, we still have the December reservation but since it's for right after Christmas it's taking up a lot of our DVC points (and the fact that he has three additional trips planned, our points are pretty much used up!). I threw out an idea to my dad the other day so we've been talking about potentially making some changes. We haven't done anything yet but stay tuned to see what we decide. popcorn::

Back to our rainy morning at Epcot...

Thursday, March 31, 2011 cont'd (part 3)

Our next stop after The Land and Innoventions was The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Since we did the ride earlier in the trip, we decided to bypass it and just go into the aquarium to look around. Claire suggested we go see Turtle Talk with Crush. It looked like a show was just about to start so we went into the waiting area. It's always fun to go to this show even without younger kids. You never know what kind of goofy things the kids are going to say and like the Laugh Floor, every show is different! I don't remember too much about what exactly happened but we enjoyed it as usual.

Then we spent a good chunk of time checking out all the different creatures in the aquariums. I spent the most time looking at the large tank. So many fish! Or should I say, "fish, fish, fish...everywhere fish." haha ;) With that Stacey reference, does anybody else get Celebrations magazine? In the latest issue there is an interview with her!

One of the many educational signs in the pavilion which are always interesting to read.

Part of the reason I spent so much time at that tank was because of this guy.
263912_763364095274_20305212_38796074_5996007_n.jpg

He had to be the biggest sea turtle I've ever seen (now that I think of it, I don't know how many sea turtles I have seen). But he was HUGE! I was just in awe of his size. It actually took a long time before I could even manage to get that picture. So cool though.

And some more fish...

Once I could finally manage to pull myself away from that tank we went back downstairs to look at the Nemo exhibits for a while.

Since we had our Soarin fastpasses to use, we went back over to the Land pavilion. Before riding, we split a sandwich for lunch (we didn't need too much after our big breakfast) and then rode Soarin again. It wasn't quite a walk-on this time but we still managed to get on within 15 minutes or so.

One of the other things I wanted to do at Epcot was the Kim Possible mission but because of the rain we really didn't want to go out toward World Showcase. We figured we could come back again on Friday since it was supposed to be a lot nicer. Before leaving, we made a quick stop in Mouse Gear and got a couple things. Then we said good-bye to Epcot. Atleast it wasn't as dark anymore.

The rest of the day we just stayed at the resort. I think we had both had enough of walking around in the rain! We figured it would be a good opportunity to go check out the Community Hall at Old Key West (we still didn't want to just sit around in our room). So we walked over to the Community Hall, again, nice and close being right across the street from the Hospitality House! In the CH, they have a TV, games you can play, and movies to rent. Claire and I decided to play some foosball for a while. Let's just say neither of us are very good but it's still fun.

There was supposed to be another campfire/making smores activity that afternoon but obviously the weather prevented that from happening. Instead, some of the recreation CMs came into the Community Hall for a no-bake cookie activity. I asked if it was just for kids, and they said anyone could do it. So of course Claire and I joined in! Basically the no-bake cookie was a graham cracker that you could decorate with all sorts of candy and stuff. One of the CMs came around and squirted whipped cream on your graham cracker and then you could put on sprinkles/chocolate chips/M&Ms. While we were decorating, we got into a conversation with a fellow Wisconsinite. She was from the Appleton/Green Bay area, visiting with her husband and kids for their spring break. We started talking about DVC and the lovely weather.

Another fun thing about the cooking making was that they turned it into a contest. Everyone had to name their masterpiece and then they gave out awards for the best cookie (well, everyone got an award. LOL). I'm pretty sure I won the award for the "bomb diggity" cookie. And this is what a "bomb diggity" cookie looks like, even though it's half-eaten.

I should be on one of those shows on the Food Network. I have to say though, I never thought a graham cracker with whipped cream would be so good! Oh, and the toy duck was my prize. Both Claire and I ended up leaving our prizes in the room so hopefully someone with kids found them. :)

I also should mention that the CMs who ran the activity were awesome. Two of them were CPers and it seemed like they were having a ball. I was so tempted to ask how you get a job with Disney recreation. How fun would that be??? We also got a visit from the manager of Old Key West. I think he, along with a lot of the other cast members, felt really bad about the lousy weather-not like there is anything they could've done though, it's not their fault!

After making our cookies we hung out for a few more minutes. I had to take a picture of the wall of pictures. I remember seeing this in someone else's TR and it's so cute seeing all the DVC members. Some of the pictures were so old!
262701_763364624214_20305212_38796081_8134674_n.jpg

Then we went to the store to grab something for dinner-turned out to be frozen TV dinners. LOL. For the rest of the evening we just hung out and watched Survivor. The good news is that later in the evening the weather did finally start to clear up. We were glad the rain had finally passed-it was looking like our last full day was going to be gorgeous! :yay::yay::cloud9:

up next: Finally, plenty of sunshine heading our way! :sunny:

So many fish! Or should I say, "fish, fish, fish...everywhere fish." haha ;) With that Stacey reference, does anybody else get Celebrations magazine? In the latest issue there is an interview with her!
[

That's really funny that you mentioned that :) I read that article a couple of weeks ago and though of everyone on the DIS who references stacey alot :)

Yay, you have sunshine coming up!

Okay, love the no bake cookie making! That cookie definitely looks pretty tasty, I have to say.

Hey, at least you caught Survivor! Love that show:thumbsup2 The night it downpoured on us was American Idol night, and that was the night they were in Milwaukee! It was a must see:lmao:

I'm glad to see you made to must of a rainy day. Nice cookie!

I am joining in real late, but am caught up.

Sorry about all your rain and cloudy days! :scared1:
That picture from the contemporary is scary! Hard to believe its daytime.

Sounds like you had plenty of fun too though.
You definatelly sell the early mornings, I love going early, but can't get the kids (now teens) up anymore.

Glad that you met so many characters!
Exciting that you met Pirate Goofy, I don't remember ever seeing him.

The flower & garden festival looks amazing! I'd love to go sometime. We were there before it started this year and saw some topiaries, but it was not the same. You have some amazing photos, especially on the sunny days. The flowers looks so colorful!

Amazing safari experience with the lions. Thats exciting to see them up! Great photos too!

We saw Harry Potter and really enjoyed it. I thought about the midnight showing, but we decided on Friday. Plans got changed and we ended up with Sunday morning, but still made that first weekend. We are going to try to go again to the IMAX next weekend, hopefully it will work out.

Did you see the Universal news on opening night? Wish I had been there! Everyone at the CitiWalk theater was invited to WWOHP for two hours (no Forbidden Journey though).

Glad your next day was back to sunny.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun at the resort. I'm looking forward to spending more time at the resorts and maybe doing a few activities around it on our no-park trip to AKL next month.

Turtle Talk with Crush always sounds so hilarious, I can't believe I skipped that on our Epcot day!:headache:

The make your own cookie sounded like a lot of fun! You two definitely missed out on some more awesome rain the rest of that afternoon. I agree it would be a blast to be a recreational CM. You may have already mentioned this, but does your sister know what role she will be doing for her CP? I love hearing what roles people get!

Survivor is awesome:thumbsup2 I've been watching it since I was in first grade. lol And yes Friday was so beautiful and sunny!!! Can't wait to hear about it.

The cookie decorating sounds like so much fun! It amazes me all the activities the resorts offer even with 4 theme parks to keep us busy. Glad to hear the weather was going to improve!
