That was fun, let's do it again! - TR Link added - 12/11

Harvest 2012 is officially over!

8121878251_96fee14c08.jpg

It has been a year for the record books, but not in a good way. I hope this year is one that will just become a story passed on to future generations like 1934. Considering we broke records set that year for heat and lack of rainfall, I truly hope we never see a year like this again. It is over and behind us now, so we'll get ready for next year and do it all over again.

There is still a lot to be done on the farm before winter gets here, but we won't be as rushed to get things done as we have been the past month or so. Hopefully, now that I'm not heading home from work every evening and going straight to work on the farm, I'll have more time to focus on other things between now and our trip... like final plans for our trip. :cool1:

And maybe I can catch up on some sleep too...

Anyway, I need to start stalking some ADR's. I like what we have, but would really like to get a better time on a couple of them. We've been going over park day plans as things change. Now that we have the official Fantasyland opening and the planned day for Test Track to reopen during our stay, there could be a couple of busy park days at the end of the week. It made me re-evaluate our plans since we have all our EPCOT time at the end of the week after Test Track is scheduled to re-open, but I think we'll stick with what we had. We'll just have to hit TT early and grab FP for another ride later. I'm always good with just one ride on Soarin' anyway, and I wouldn't think the re-opening of Test Track would have a huge impact on the other attractions and WS.:confused3

Tickets have been purchased, courtesy of Undercover Tourist, so we're now officially locked into spending a day at Universal Studios/IoA. I think the plan will still be to head there on Monday. I've always been a fan of Universal and I like the fact that there are some fun coasters there to ride, but DW and I were talking about it and we're just not excited to go there this time.:confused3 I'd like to have more than a day to spend between the 2 parks if we're going and with Disney's shorter hours that time of year and a schedule where you only have so many evenings to see all the different holiday festivities going on, I really hate to spend a day somewhere else. :sad2: I know we'll have fun, but I think I'll be glad to get this day behind us and put the focus back on the Disney parks. I really hate to go to Universal and not have a few days of time to enjoy everything, but I hope to at least have an hour or 2 to head over to CityWalk and grab a hurricane at Pat O'Briens. :drinking1

Now, I need to ask for some advice from the seasoned veterans of traveling with babies...

When we took DS last year, he was well past the stage of using bottles. A few days ago I was washing bottles for DD and it hit me like a ton of bricks... We're going to have to wash bottles while we're at Disney World. :scared1: :crazy2: :headache: Yes, I've been planning this trip for months and planning every detail of what we need to pack, but never really considered the fact that we'd have to hand wash bottles every night in the hotel room. Truthfully, I know it isn't that big of a deal and won't take all that long to do, but with 2 kids, I kind of want to limit the amount of daily responsibilities that will have to be taken care of so that we'll be able to maximize our time at the parks and then be able to get back to the room and relax instead of having to scramble around getting things ready to go back out again. Has anyone ever tried or would you recommend disposable bottles to avoid this extra inconvenience or should we just stick with our normal bottles and just pack stuff to clean them daily? Any other ideas, sugestions or comments would be much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Also, I have recently made some purchases for our stroller. We got a City Mini double stroller last year for Christmas from my parents. One thing that we didn't like about it was that it didn't have a tray, but after doing some research, I found out you could get a bar that goes across the front and a tray that attaches to it. Since it worked well to give DS snacks as we walked around the park last year, we're hoping that we'll be able to do that again this time. I meant to take a picture to put here so that there is something other than words, but I forgot. :headache: Maybe if I remember I can come back and add one later. :rolleyes1

I also bought a rain cover while I was at it. I know we aren't going during a rainy season, but I think a rain cover for a stroller is good insurance that we hopefully won't have to use. I wanted to get it out and put it on the stroller just to check the fit and it is actually really a good quality cover and it fits very well. DS was "helping" me and wanted to climb in and sit in the stroller while it was on. Here's where I did something not so smart. I had a glass of water, so I stuck my fingers in it and then flicked water at DS as he sat under the rain cover to show him how it worked. A few minutes later, after I took the rain cover off and was folding it, I see DS splashing the entire glass of water into the stroller seat. :headache:

Yeah... should have seen that one coming. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

That's all I have for now, we're just a little over a month away, so I'm going to have to start giving a better rundown of our daily plans as the trip approaches!

Well, I can't say I'm a seasoned traveler with little ones since I've not done it in 22 years!!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

But truth be told, I very rarely used real bottles with either one of my kids. My youngest did not breast feed for very long because we found out he was allergic to it, so he switched to a bottle very early. We always used the bottles with the plastic liner for him (and our oldest too). I don't recall the brand (give me a break...it was a frickin' long time ago), but I think that would be your best way to go. It will save you all that cleaning all the time, etc.

Sorry y'all had such a bad harvest this year. I can't even begin to fathom what that is like. Hope y'all have a better one next year!

Your trip is going to be here before you know it! :cool1: I understand completely what you're saying about not wanting to leave Disney to go to Universal. I felt like that this year. We love IoA but it pained me to take away time from Disney. We did end up having a good day & I'm sure y'all will, too! And if not, get 2 hurricanes from Pat O's! :thumbsup2 Hurricanes from Pat O's can always make everything better. YUM!

The tray sounds like a great idea for the stroller! And it's probably a good thing you bought a good rain cover. You may not need it but you'll be so happy to have it if you do.

As for the bottle conundrum, I can't really be of any help there. The only vacations we took when Reid was that little was the beach. I just brought his regular bottles & washed them & such. But, we were in a condo with a kitchen. Much easier than being in a Disney resort. I'm sure there are some others who will be able to help you though! :goodvibes

I thought about the liner type, but then we'd still have to buy new bottles and wash the nipples anyway. The kind we have can be disassembled from both the top and bottom so it is really easy to wash the "bottle" part. It's just having the space to set it all out in a hotel room to dry and dealing with it.

Sorry y'all had such a bad harvest this year. I can't even begin to fathom what that is like. Hope y'all have a better one next year!
Thanks. It could have been worse... but not much. :lmao:

::yes::

I once drank 2 of them in a row while sitting at the bar. You have no idea how strong they are until you stand up. And they can certainly make things better. :rolleyes1

We've tried the tray out already and it works well. Unfortunately, I had to order a new lap bar for it to mount on to today. I was moving the stroller this morning and broke the one we have. The bar is adjustable, but the adjustment part is made out of plastic... yeah, not the most durable thing ever. :sad2:

I would like to thank the Advertising Department at Disney World for making my day. When I saw the banner at the top of the page for Disney World with the picture of the castle lit up for Christmas, I started to get goosebumps...

Then I realized that I'm only 30 days from seeing that sight in person and I really started to get goosebumps!!!:cool1::woohoo::yay:

Andy,
I keep forgetting to post here (and everywhere, based on the speed my TR is going)
Regarding babies at WDW - we carry breast pump wipes in our bag. Our pediatrician said work just fine on bottles, too. After a feeding, we'd dump out any milk that was left and wipe down the bottle and nipple and it'd be ready to use again. At night we'd give all the bottles a good washing in the sink in the room, but it helped that we were able to re-use them during the day to cut down on the number of bottles we had to carry with us. (we stayed DVC, so had a kitchen sink to use)

Have you looked into the baby care centers? Each park has one, complete with sinks, microwaves, high chairs, a nursing room, etc. They also have TVs to keep the bigger kids entertained while you're attending to the needs of the baby. Let me know if you'd like a full report on those - Bambi spent more time there than I did.

That's a good idea, but I think we're going to end up carrying 3 or 4 bottles with us anyway. We're using formula and DW mixes it with the distilled nursery water... so it is either carry bottles with water in them, or carry a big container of water to refill a bottle. I'm sure we'll make use of the Baby Care centers this time. I thought we would last year with DS, but we never stepped foot in one.

I was kind of looking at some of the attractions I haven't done in a while for feeding time though. I haven't seen the Hall of Presidents in probably close to 20 years. I had that penciled in for a time to sit and give DD a bottle and let DS fall asleep for a nap while accomplishing an attraction that hasn't been on the rotation much lately.

Is that considered Commando planning??? :confused3 :rolleyes1 :lmao:

What brand of formula do you use? I've see coupons for disposable bottles with the formula already inside and ready to go. Everett never took a bottle (much to my chagrin, I assure you this baby will not be the same :headache:) so I'm not exactly an expert.

Ok, so I tried googling, and I did find ready made formula bottles, but they didn't have nipples. Maybe they also sell disposable nipples somewhere? I know I'm not being very helpful. Holy cow those bottles were expensive though, so maybe hand washing would be your best bet? :confused3

Seems like time always flies once the holiday season starts approaching.

We use Similac sensitive or something like that... I know it as the Similac with the orange lid.:lmao: We've been using bottles for a while. DS never really nursed well and we had to supplement with bottles pretty much from day one with him. DD nursed for about 4 months before we had to start with formula for her.

Yeah, I actually saw them in the store the other day. Based on my math, it was about $2 per bottle for those vs. $1 per bottle for the powder we mixed. I thought maybe it would be worth a try just to buy one package and see how it goes. I got them home and opened the box before I made the discovery that they didn't include nipples. :headache: The cheapest non-latex nipples they had at Wal-Mart were going to be about $3 for a package of 6 and they still didn't have the screw on rings with them. I'm thinking we'll just suck it up and wash bottles every day. :confused3

Yes, I can't wait. I was doing some work on the farm last night, thinking about all the things I need to get done in the next couple of weeks. On top of that, I've got a few evening meetings to attend in a couple of weeks, my employer has a suite for this weekend's Colts game and I have 2 of the tickets, I've got tickets to 2 Purdue basketball games this month, DW's cheerleading coaching job has started this week and we have Thanksgiving coming up.

It is going to be a busy month, but that should definitely make time fly leading up to our trip.:thumbsup2

Looks like a lot of activity on this thread lately. Sounds like you'll get to see both the new Fantasyland AND the new Test Track? We expect detailed reports, of course.

As far as the bottle-washing thing, don't look at me. I got nothin'. :rotfl2:

:rolleyes1 Well, kind of.

There probably should have been more. I have just been swamped lately. I really need to finalize some plans since we leave in just over 2 weeks.

Indeed. Truthfully, I think my mom is the one in our group most excited about Fantasyland. I'll be more excited about it when the mine train opens. I look forward to seeing Be Our Guest and the Mermaid ride, but I guess I'm not as excited about it as maybe I should be... :confused3

Now as far as Test Track goes... I'm hoping to get multiple rides in on it. As long as some CM with an attitude doesn't ruin it for me like last year. :headache:

I knew I could count on you! :thumbsup2

Well, i haven't officially started packing yet, but i was getting ready to go to bed and I saw DS's ear muffs and figured I'd toss them into the backpack I'll be carrying in the parks while I knew where they are instead of scrambling around looking for them later. Next thing I know I'm tossing in the ponchos, Dramamine, extra contacts, sunscreen, and Advil. Already got my park bag ready to go with the exception of bottles, baby food and snacks.

I think we might use a second park bag this year, just to leave under the stroller with some extra clothes/blankets and maybe an extra bottle or 2 so I don't have to pack quite as much around the parks all day in an over stuffed backpack.

Just 10 work days left...

Way to go with the packing! I can't believe you have 10 days left, your trip will be here before you know it!

I also think that the two bag method is best, that way you don't have to feel like a sherpa on their way up Mt. Everest! :rotfl2:

Well, I still haven't technically packed yet. Just threw some daily essentials into the park bag. I actually bought a new backpack this year. It is smaller than the one from last year, but has 2 big pouches so I think we can actually fit things in easier, but it should be a bit less bulky.

I figured for stuff that we won't need everywhere as we're walking around, it would be fine to leave in a bag in the stroller, and if someone needs a sweatshirt and a couple of bottles more than I do, they can have them. :lmao:

Final Plans, Part 1

Well, we are fast approaching our departure date. 15 calendar days and 10 work days from now we'll be heading south. On Friday the 30th, I'll go to work as usual. Since it will be my last day before vacation, I think we all know I can use the term "work" loosely, so hopefully it will be a slow day and I can leave a little bit early.

DW is a cheerleading coach at a local HS. There is a basketball game that evening, so she'll be taking the kids and heading to the gym. Once I'm home from work, I'm going to head straight to the bedroom and try to get a few hours of sleep. When DW and the kids get back home, they'll finish getting the last few things packed. I'll plan to be awake before 10 pm and haul everything out to the Tahoe, and my parents and sisters should be sitting in our driveway by the time I'm done. Once we're all ready to go, we'll hit the Interstate and head south. With any luck, everyone (except for the 2 drivers) will get plenty of sleep and we won't have to stop until we're well into Tennessee and need gas. Depending how many times we stop and how long the stops are, we should arrive at CSR sometime between noon and 3pm on Saturday.

After we check in, we'll hopefully be able to unpack and settle into our room. I'm sure I'll drive the whole way, so I'll probably try to get a nap in while DW and DS head for the pool or a play area to burn some energy.

We currently have an 8:45 pm ADR here:

I've been doing some ADR stalking for an earlier time, but with no luck. I'll keep checking between now and then, and we'll probably call on the way down if we haven't been able to move it up by then.

I hope to be able to head to the TTC and board a monorail to see this:

and this:

before we eat our dinner. With any luck we'll be able to get an updaed version of this picture at some point.

One thing DW would like to do at some point is see this:

6648020015_6ae33990e7.jpg

With all the Christmas festivities, it will be hard to do, especially now that they're closing MK early on the evening we planned to go in preparation for the Fantasyland grand opening. MK is open late on Saturday night, so we could potentially add a day to our tickets and see the parade at 10 pm. We'll probably be too tired to attempt it, but we'll have to see.:confused3

Sunday -
We'll wake up and head to our first park in time for Rope Drop. It will be our first park day, so as always we'll head here first.

6628471879_3fe951007d.jpg

DS has kept telling us that he's "cited to ride Dumbo" so I'm going to have to say that will be our first ride. We'll spend the morning in the MK. Our usual tradition is to have our first meal at Pecos Bill's, but this time we might switch it up and try to hit Be Our Guest for lunch.

We had an ADR for Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic package, but I was able to get another one for later in the week, so we'll probably cancel this one. DHS is evening EMH so I didn't really want to commit us to that park for the entire afternoon. We'll instead head back to CSR for a break and then DW and I might take the kids to AK and hit what we want to do there that afternoon (and be done with that park) :rolleyes1, or we might go to EPCOT for the afternoon. There's a good chance we'll all still head to DHS for the 6pm lighting of the Osborne lights and maybe hit a couple of rides during EMH.

BiL should be landing in Orlando at around 11 pm this evening and heading over to meet us at CSR.

Monday-
We'll get up early and drive to Universal Studios. We'll spend the day at US and IoA. They close at 7pm and the MSEP in MK is at 7pm. DW and I aren't all that excited about the US part of the trip, so we are considering getting through the rides we want to do as quickly as possible that day and then heading back to MK before the MSEP if we don't go see it on Saturday.

Tuesday-
This is the day of my parents' anniversary and the reason we're going. The plan for today will be to hit DHS at Rope Drop so DS can ride one of his favorite rides:

6690211437_690fbbed8c.jpg

and I can ride mine:

6708650359_c4dde4eb45.jpg

We'll head back to CSR for an early lunch and a good nap, because we have an early dinner ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern. After dinner we'll be hanging around the MK for some of these festivities:

Looking back at pictures from our last trip makes me realize some of my phone pictures are pretty bad. Hopefully we can get some better ones this time. :lmao:

Sounds like you have a lot going on in a few short days (so far!) But is sounds really fun! Can you take us with you? I know we just got back, but I wanna go again!!!!! :rotfl2:

Plans are looking good so far. I'm looking forward to the part where it says having THE BEST DIS MEET OF ALL TIME with KatMark! :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Seriously, your plans are sounding good, despite that "dig" I felt at Animal Kingdom. I love that park (much more than the Studios!).
