"That Walt Disney Dude"

Look, honest opinion ,not putting anyone down, I don't think your being objective.....my opinion.......knowing the man and the history of his time has to have some degree of effect.......

Your free to say what you want

My Opinion............AKK

Although you keep stating that you are only giving your opinion, your words suggest that no one other than you is allowed to have a valid opinion. :confused3

I know some of the history, however it doesn't interest me and knowing or not knowing hasn't changed my enjoyment of the parks. I have a history degree - if I want to see something historical I will tour some castles in Europe. If I want to be entertained - I will see the castle at WDW.

I see both sides. I think Disney (and any other experience) is a very personal experience. Different people take away different experiences. Some love the thrills, some prefer the calmer dark rides. Some wait in line to meet every character and some don't care to spend time doing so. This is just like any other experience in the park.

I can see that some don't care to know (or do know but don't feel an enjoyment enhancement in knowing) the history behind the park.

For me, I can see the point that while riding a particular ride it probably isn't the history of the park that is contributing to my enjoyment at that moment. But overall, I think I have a different appreciation for my overall experience of the parks knowing and understanding what is behind it and where it came from. But I love that stuff. It provides an overall sense of awe that enhances my overall general experience. Others may not experience that with a bit of historical knowledge. From my own perspective I can't help but think "awwww, they are missing out on that emotional feeling I get when I stand on Main Street". But that is because of my own viewpoints. Who is to say that they aren't feeling a similar overwhelming emotion that doesn't need to include knowing background details. I'm projecting my own feelings and desires, and realize that. But that is kind of human nature. Isn't it?

Hi AKK,

As you can see people can enjoy WDW on different levels and in different layers, from enjoying the mulisensory experience to delving into the history an philosophy of the place.

As a student of Disney history, you surely know this Walt Disney quote, right? -->

"I would rather entertain and hope people learned something that educate people and hope that they are entertained."

So, as much as I like the history, I am happy to see my son enjoy the characters, my nephew enjoy the thrill rides, and my parents see the sights without them knowing the history ... And I am happy to do it together, because as you well know as a student of Disney history that's the way Walt wanted it, right?

I agree totally with almost everything you said........but ..don't you think if they understood the man and his time, they would enjoy the place more? Understand the magic..the whole *Disney Experience* This is really my whole point........

FYI....This whole thing started with people saying Walt was just a business man.........noting special.........etc .etc.and I pointed out that he was a remarkable fellow..etc.etc.......head and shoulders above any leader in any field in recent history....So what do I get back...............Steve Jobs......a granted expert in electronics/marketing..........who took it all to China and used what amounts to slave labor to make a fortune....................Ho well, that's another story for a different place..........

A number of people immediately jumped down my throat and told me it didn't matter who he was.........they know everything Disney just by repeated visits to the parks.......

Sorry I didn't believe it and still don't.

I guess some are upset because they stated what is supposed to be their reactions and I didn't change my entire opinion and position............sorry one or two or a few statements isn't going to do it.

AKK

A little live and let live would go a long way here! You don't have to change your opinion, no one does! But let others have the same right.

Apparently, many people pointed out that they do know history and do not enjoy more because of this, but you still do not get it... Not everyone is the same and there is no shame in it.

People aren't upset because you didn't change your opinion, they are upset with the condescending way in which you devalue the opinion of others. Perhaps it is your writing style and word choice. Since I don't know you, my opinion is based on what you have written.

Are they truly acting superior? Or are they just stating something they feel passionate about?

I don't understand why there cannot be more live and let live on this board!! :confused3

Some of us want to know about all things Disney, some of us could give a hoot, some of us just want to know the fastest way to Space Mountain, and some of us want to know the best way to get to Universal from Disney. It's all good.

I think if you read some of the posts over the last couple of pages you will get your answer.

No, not necessarily. I know much more about Walt Disney than the rest of my family. I bet they don't even know who Roy Disney was. Yet we all enjoy the parks. Knowing the history doesn't make me enjoy the parks any more.

Yes, it may be different for you. But that doesn't mean that everyone has to feel the same way.

I am not condescending to anyone.......even you who have spent most of his posts trying to make my out to be superior.I am not superior, nor am I putting anyone down............

Just because I believe in my position and have not seen any posts to change my mind..............your upset...........I am sorry you give my opinion so much importance...its not..........it my opinion backed up by a lot of Disney experience.

Feel free to have your own opinion

I agree..........where have I said they can't have their own opinion.......????

just don't expect me to change mine with what I have seen here.

Again I respectfully disagree........AKK

I disagree.........its not putting anyone down,its stating a opinion.....AKK

No, it isn't an opinion when someone states they fully enjoy wdw w/o knowing detailed history of Walt and you tell that person he isn't being objective.

For goodness sakes, we're talking about amusement parks built by a business man. Of course they're spectacular parks started by a forward thinking innovator who's in good company with the likes of Steve Jobs.

What exactly are you disagreeing with? :confused3

Are you saying I'm having more fun than I think I am?

You clearly aren't being objective either.

And, no, I have no idea what that means - other than the fact that PP apparently has decided that he knows our feelings/experiences better than we do.

Again I respectfully disagree........AKK

I wonder what you disagree on exactly. You state history adds to experience people state, not to everyone, not to those on this thread and their families.:confused3 Are you suggesting we all just lie, because according to you there is no way we can experience it the way we do.:confused3

Feel free to have your own opinion

AKK

You keep saying "feel free to have your own opinion" but then point out to posters why their opinion is wrong, that it isn't based on fact, that it lacks common sense. You don't think this make you sound superior? That your opinion is the only one that matters?

Why it it you seem to think its so important that I agree with those who don't agree with me?.......if I feel I am right, then of course I feel they are wrong and the same thing goes the other way around!

I have said this a number of times...I have my opinion and your free to have yours.........

I am not this important.the world is not ending!

Opinions are just that opinions. We can each have an opinion about what makes a good experience at WDW and both are perfectly valid, because they are our opinions. I don't tell you you are wrong in saying you get more enjoying knowing the history that goes along with the park yet you feel it ok to tell others they are wrong when they tell you they can enjoy the parks without knowing or thinking about the history.

Nobody has said you need to change your opinion.
