That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Alright, since our lovely hostess isn't posting, I'm going to momentarily hijack the thread to bond with you a little. ;)

First of all

Italian MILs are tough! You will make it through. I did not speak to mine or communicate very well with her, or her with me for a few years. Finally, DH stepped in with how things were going to be, and explained them to her. Since then, it's been smooth sailing. Also, my DSILs are married, and having kids now, so it takes all of the focus off us, and distributes it a bit. Also have a DBIL still in high school.

Be grateful that DF will stick up for you, and stand your ground. Believe me when I tell you what you do now will dictate the rest of your life. I don't mean to sound doom and gloom, but with my MIL, I had to be very, very firm. I felt like a big you know what, but that's okay. I'm right with myself and my family at the end of the night, and what's most important, DH and DS.

Also, a great piece of advice that was given to me was on your wedding day, at the reception, take a moment to sit back and look at all the people there. Just observe them for a few moments. I did this, and it still sticks in my memory. I can picture every person in that room, and they were all there to celebrate my marriage to DH. Some are no longer with us, and I hold that memory very dear. :goodvibes

If you need any support, feel free to PM me. I'm happy to lend an ear. Or a shoulder. Or whatever you may need (including alcohol). ;)

Wow! You have already lived my life. It's the twilight zone. That sounds exacatly like my MIL and I do feel like a you know what. I am glad I am not the only one. No one around me has issues with their MIL's so I was beginning to question my sanity. It took awhile for DF to see my side of things and realize he had to stand up for me. Thanks for the advice!! I will observe for a few moments, that sounds like a really good idea. I want to cherish the memories. I may need that alcohol, only 67 days to go!! :woohoo:
Sorry for hijacking the board!

Hey, happy to help! I have totally been there, done that, and lived through it! :thumbsup2

Now, Tinkerbellarella, you must post something or Lady Lallie and I will just keep this going. ;)

My DTL (Disney Travel Luck) is running a little low right now. Anyone have a pixie I can shake? I hear their dust is lucky.

I logged on to the net and clicked my way over to Southwest's happy lil' webpage yesterday to finally find the fares and schedules released for the time we'll be headed to the World. I slapped our dates into that puppy and...

...

Well, frankly, I was unimpressed. After I did the puppy dog head tilt, (yeah, I know you know what I’m talking about. And I know you just actually did it at your computer screen) I actually made sure I entered everything right and rechecked it because of how flat out "Meh" I felt about the rates they're offering.

Lest you've forgotten, since it was mentioned, oh, I don't know 43 pages back, we're hoping to fly out of Providence into Orlando. But to come home we'll be flying in from Tampa.

Living in Southeastern MA, I have the option of flying out of TF Green in Providence (actually, Warwick, RI) or Logan in Boston. I live about 25 minutes from the Providence airport and it's small (maybe 25-30 gates in one terminal) and I'm super-familiar with it. The only thing it doesn't have going for it is that it doesn't have a Cinnabon. Unreal. :sad2: Logan is much bigger (Terminals A-E with multiple gates at each), I'm not very familiar with it and it doesn't have a Cinnabon either.

Does anyone else consider the availability of hot, soft, sticky, cinnamon-y goodness when they fly?

Anyone?

Bueller?

(Sorry, that was waaaay to easy to pass up.)

We're mostly hoping for Providence because Logan is just so...obnoxious. Ok, not Logan itself. It’s the getting to and from Logan that is just so obnoxious.

By way of a Disney comparison, getting to Logan is akin to getting back to your room at the All Star Movies on the 4th of July after the first showing of Wishes at the MK when they’re only running one bus for all three All Stars and you have a double stroller, two overtired toddlers hyped up on cotton candy who refuse to be ‘strolled’ and must be held, but are really just sliding down the sides of your body and a husband who’s not speaking to you because not only did he experience WWIII trying to fold up said unused stroller while the mass of All Star humanity waited behind him, but you also made him stop in the Emporium on the way out and bought a complete Mickey Head dinner service for 6 because “won’t it look so pretty in our red and black dining room?’

Lots of stop and go. Mostly slow-going. Some cursing. Foul-smelling. Altogether too sweaty.

So, we're trying to avoid sweaty Logan for Providence, which used its deodorant before leaving the house.

Strangest. Analogy. Ever. Moving on.

Anywho, the choice might seem obvious. The proverbial wrench is that Logan often offers lower rates because it's a hub, particularly through Jet Blue. With one very important exception.

Southwest out of Providence.

An important point that I haven't stated which you should know is the following: Jet Blue only flies out of Logan, not Providence. Southwest only flies out of Providence, not Logan.

SW also happens to be my favorite airline, so Providence really has a lot going for it right now. In my experience, SW is almost always on time, if not early, it’s easy to get into Group A and get a good aisle seat near the front of the plane when flying SW out of Providence, and I’ve always had really nice flight attendants. Once they danced for us. All men, by the way.

(By the by, Delta Song is hands down the worst airline I've ever flown. I’m not even sure if they’re still in operation. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Delta slowly and quietly enfolded them back into the corporation based on their customer service alone. I don’t really need to hash out the details, but just know that it’s the only time I’ve ever almost gotten violent and used strong language in front of tots in an airport.)

Holy carp, could I stray any further from where I’m actually trying to go with this? Gives you a good idea where my mind is at this week. So ANYWAY…

To say the least I’m unimpressed with SW’s offerings right now. And I’m not sure what to do. Should I book the best I can get now, wherever it is I can get it, since we have the flexibility of airports and just suck it up if that means leaving and/or coming to/from Logan? Should I wait to see if I can get a better SW rate out of Providence? A DING perhaps? Should I stay? Should I go? Hang on, I’m going to ask The Clash.

It’s the perennial airfare dilemma. Ugh. My least favorite kind. I’d much rather wager the battle over whether or not to buy another pair of 5” black, Steve Madden, peep-toe heels than deal with this.

I would just really, really hate to have to pay more because I waited, but really, what can I do? I suppose we’re all at the mercy of the airlines. The more I think about it, the more comfortable I am with waiting a bit. TK mentioned she’d gotten her best airfare rate for the time of year we're traveling sometime in July. I realize things may change this year because we’re now paying 8 gazillion dollars for a gallon of gas, but still. I don’t think I’m ready to settle just yet.

I had given a thought to driving down in a straight shot. Missy and I are good road-trippers together. And I’ve always wanted to do that. It’s about 22-24 hours, depending on how many Staties you can avoid while bending the speed limit by 5-10mph. However, the aforementioned 8 gazillion dollar per gallon of gas has pretty much shut down that idea. The way I figure it, even if we just get ok rates for the flights, it’ll still come out to less than we’d pay for a 2,500 mi. roundtrip’s worth of gas.

So really, at the end of this update I’m at the exact same place I was at the beginning.
Unimpressed.
Undecided.
Unkempt.
Don’t judge. It’s been a rough few days. A ponytail is all I could manage to do with my hair this morning. They’re lucky I remembered to change out of my PJs.

Sorry for the delay in getting this one up. And for it being short-ish. This will be the theme for the next 17 or so days, until the wedding/bachelorette/school madness is complete. I feel like putting up a ticker for that. Because I’m so looking forward to having my life back. You know, to spending it DIS’ing.

Don’t tell the BF I just wrote that. ;)

:flower3:

Wow...I don't know what to say.... Except that SW had a big sale going on all weekend....which is probably NOT something that you want to hear NOW...:rolleyes1 They finally opened up those fares beyond Aug. 22 last Thursday and did a 15% off thing through Monday. Of course I'm not sure if that applied to all markets, so we can always rest on that possibility! We fly out of Manchester, NH for the same reasons you fly Providence.

And there's no Cinnabon there, either. :sad2:

There IS a Cinnabon at the Tampa airport, however!...which I can experience when I go visit my dad...:goodvibes

Anywho, back to SW. I'm not sure what to tell you. We were all set to drive, too. But the fare we got over the weekend brought the total cost to within $200 and that's worth my peace of mind in not having to worry about the road-worthiness of our van on a long trip, and getting to the the Magic in 3 short hours!! I grabbed it now because while I'm sure there will be Ding fares released at some point, I wanted my choice of flights (Dings seem to be offered more and more only on certain flights).

I guess that's not much help, is it?!?!

And now back to your regularly scheduled dilemma....

.

Everyone that lived there pronounced it Peb Ah Dee.

That's whack.

LOL Yeah, we love to screw with the non-New Englander's. Gloucester is another one: Glaw-stuh.

Is it Wayne? Oh please, oh please, oh please say it's Wayne. I will be DED. :rotfl2:

It is. My daddy is Bruce Wayne. Well, maybe not technically, since it's Bruce Wayne Tinkerbellarella'sLastName, but I can pretend my daddy's Batman.

I should add that to the list of issues for my next therapy visit.

Also, the BF's name is Bruce (but his middle name is not Wayne). How's that for finding a man like you father?!

Don't even get me started on how Massachusetts towns are pronounced.

 How are you making out saying Leominster?

I am so not a chick flick girl. Just can't take sap!

I can only do it in small doses myself, so I know what you mean.

Worcester scares me, no offense to anyone out there. We got a couch off of craig's list last year and had to go there....scary. :scared: Too much for this Maine Girl.

LOL I know what you mean. Parts of my city are like that too. We're actually a lot like Worcester, but smaller.

We aren't having a traditional reception so the music is just in the background, no dancing for DF in public, he frightens small children and those with weak hearts.

Now THAT is hysterical.

He finally has quit trying after I limited him to one Bob Marley song.

I just finished watching "I Am Legend" for the second time and there are a couple of Marley songs in there. Actually, it's really the only two Marley songs I really like - "Stir It Up" and "Three Little Birds".

Big Italian wedding for us thank you very much. DH's mom said if we got married in Disney she wouldn't come. :sad2:

Yeah...I have an Italian half of the family (my family, not BF's). I'm bound and determined to do what we want, not what they want.

I say that now. We'll see how that pans out.

If only I can survive my bridal shower on May 3rd.

That's the night of the bachelorette party for the bride of the wedding I'm in. I'm hoping to not be completely incoherent come the 4th.

I sucessfully changed my WDW reservations to add one more night. So now we are going August 30th - September 6th. We are hoping to get tickets to the first night of MNSSHP.

Yayyyyy for a longer stay at Disney AND going to the Party!!!

Alright, since our lovely hostess isn't posting

Brat. LOL

Sorry for the delay guys. I've been a bad, bad PTR-writer. However I have a valid excuse. I've been temporarily lobotomized by everything non-Disney in my life. My brain is scheduled to return on 5/14/08. Until then, updates might be a bit sporadic.

UGH. And you know what's weird, I'm positive I checked the website TWICE on Thursday and it would still only let me check as far out as 8/22/08. And I simply had no time to check this weekend.

::sigh::

I'm trying to practice letting go of the things I can't control. It's hard. I'm saying AAARGH very loudly in my head right now.

There IS a Cinnabon at the Tampa airport, however!

That made me feel better. Really.

My DTL (Disney Travel Luck) is running a little low right now. Anyone have a pixie I can shake? I hear their dust is lucky.

Really? I need to snag myself a fairy then. Not with my DTL, but just about everything else this week.

Living in Southeastern MA, I have the option of flying out of TF Green in Providence (actually, Warwick, RI) or Logan in Boston. I feel for you on this one, but just think of more me flying out of White Plains. 2 Gates, and one independent coffee shop. No nothing. Definitely not a place you want to be delayed in for any amount of time. You don't want to even get up and give up a precious seat.

Anyone?

Bueller?

Ferris your my hero!

You have re rofl over this one. :rotfl2: This is why I avoid Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in NY and deal with the baby size airport in White Plains. I'd have to agree and avoid.

Definitely a bonus here. Dancing men are always good.

(By the by, Delta Song is hands down the worst airline I've ever flown. I’m not even sure if they’re still in operation. Delta Song closed up awhile back, and now they are back to being just regular old Delta. Still worthy of scorn and ridicule though. Delta is the airline I try to avoid. I think the only good thing Song had going for it was Kate Spade uniforms.

To say the least I’m unimpressed with SW’s offerings right now. And I’m not sure what to do. Should I book the best I can get now, wherever it is I can get it, since we have the flexibility of airports and just suck it up if that means leaving and/or coming to/from Logan? I'd give it a little more time. We booked our flight for $99 each way, and of course right after we booked it the airfare came down to $73 for the trip down. The way home has gone up, but I think that is due to the fact we are flying home in the middle of a holiday weekend. That was on AirTran though. A week or two shouldn't hurt and you could end up with a better Ding rate.

Check out this website for gas prices.

AAA Gas Costs

Tell it what kind of car you drive, and your departure and arrival points and it will give you an estimate of gas costs (using current gas prices. Tolls would still be more, but it would give you a good starting point.

Think hard about the endless monotony of driving through the Carolinas. Hypnotically dull. Really they need to put more things closer to the highway to look at. Trees are pretty and all, but miles of them are incredibly dull to look at as your driving. I actually started looking forward to the South of the Border signs last trip just for something to do.

Hope your day starts to get better. I can commiserate. My allergies are making my life miserable at the moment. My poor eyes are red, puffy and swollen. I must look oh so lovely. The only thing that got me to come in to work today, was the fact that I have my back massage scheduled for staff appreciation day. Honestly they should do this on a weekly basis or something. I'd even pay for it. I am soooo looking forward to it.

First, I had to subscribe... you writing about getting ready for your trip is getting me psyched for mine. :) It is fun to read about how another Massachusetts gal is getting ready.

I couldn't agree with you more about Logan. We are flying from there because it is 5 minutes away. But TF Green is the better of the airports. It is incredibly easy to manuver around.

Have you tried calling the Disney Travel Line to see the deal that they have for flights to Disney? Then all you have to worry about is the flight home.

Have you checked the AAA website yet? They have decent fare amounts.

 Good luck and try not to stress out too badly

If I go there will be trouble,
if I stay it will be double...

I'll never, under any circumstances, pass up a good Clash opportunity. TFI. ;)

Lest you've forgotten, since it was mentioned, oh, I don't know 43 pages back, we're hoping to fly out of Providence into Orlando. But to come home we'll be flying in from Tampa.

1. Tampa and Providence are homes to my two most favorite ariports. In the world. But not The World.

2. Your description of Logan reminds me a lot of Newark... which I avoid at all cost.

3. My experience with flights from Tampa to Providence has been not-great in terms of price. Not awful, but not great.

4. I've done the straight-through drive from Buffalo to Tampa. 5 times. It's hell. Okay, when I was 19 and all hyped up on No-Dose, it wasn't so bad. Except for the 3am stretch through W. Virginia. Shudder. But no WAY could I handle that today.

5. One can never have too many black, peep-toe heels. Trust V. ::yes::

I actually made sure I entered everything right and rechecked it because of how flat out "Meh" I felt about the rates they're offering.

That is too funny that you use "Meh". My best friend and I refer to each other as Meh. I don't even remember why, but it was way back when in High School that it happened. We say it with enthusiam though, MEH!

 How are you making out saying Leominster?

LOL. I say that one wrong just to annoy DF. When we met he lived right near there so I caught on pretty quickly. My other annoyance is the "-boroughs". What state needs so many towns that end in "borough" Geez.

Really? I need to snag myself a fairy then. Not with my DTL, but just about everything else this week.

Ugh. I can relate on that one. I just keep saying to myself, "Think lovely thoughts."

Dancing men are always good.

There are so many un-DIS places I could go with this. But I won't. Because I enjoy posting on these boards.

Trees are pretty and all, but miles of them are incredibly dull to look at as your driving. I actually started looking forward to the South of the Border signs last trip just for something to do.

I've done this drive only once before, and the destination was Gainesville not Orlando. It was hypnotic. And pretty in, like, 20 minute spurts. Then it was boring in 4 hour spurts. At one point we pulled off 95 for gas. The gas station was literally miles away, past many, many fields of cotton. We were tempted to get out and pick some, but it was such a remote area, I was worried about staring down the barrel of some irked farmer's shotgun.

Good LORD that was a stereotype. Sorry to all you Carolinians. But in all honesty, that was our reasoning. We were literally in MiddleOfNowhere, SC.

The only thing that got me to come in to work today, was the fact that I have my back massage scheduled for staff appreciation day. Honestly they should do this on a weekly basis or something. I'd even pay for it. I am soooo looking forward to it.

Once a month the fitness center in our building offers 15/30 minute chair massages for $15/$30. I haven't done it yet because I'm strictly loyal to my therapeutic masseuse Laura (who has similar rates for a full body massage).

And you reminded me: HAPPY ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONAL'S A.K.A. SECRETARY'S A.K.A. STAFF APPRECIATION DAY!

First, I had to subscribe... you writing about getting ready for your trip is getting me psyched for mine. :) It is fun to read about how another Massachusetts gal is getting ready.

Hi fellow MA girl!!! :wave2:

I couldn't agree with you more about Logan. We are flying from there because it is 5 minutes away.

I was about to ask whereabouts in MA you were, but this gives me my general answer. :)

5. One can never have too many black, peep-toe heels. Trust V. ::yes::

True that. Totally rhetorical question, that one was.

When did I turn into Yoda?

THIS IS AWESOME!

That is too funny that you use "Meh". My best friend and I refer to each other as Meh. I don't even remember why, but it was way back when in High School that it happened. We say it with enthusiam though, MEH!

My friend Jill and I say "meh" when we don't feel one way or another about something. Funny!

My other annoyance is the "-boroughs". What state needs so many towns that end in "borough" Geez.

Ha! I take the train in from Middleborough.

:flower3:

"Meh" reminds me of the pre-show to MuppetVision 3D! I think it's the janitor guy, walking back and forth checking the sound equipment or something, and he finds something he's not particularly happy about and just says "Meh!" At least that's what it sounds like!

So, in our area of NH we have Peterborough, Hillsborough, and Marlborough. Maine has quite a few, too, although in many cases I've seen them shortened to -boro. The "-ugh" is silent anyway - who needs it!:rolleyes1

You may possibly now be my #1 favorite [pre-] trip report on the DIS. This is saying something, because I am a HUGE fan of Zzub! But, where he writes about what happened on his trips, you are writing before you even get there.... So by default you have more for us to read. I'm sure there will always be another Zzub TR, and I look forward to them like my favorite summer seafood stand opening, but you really have something here!

.

Hi fellow MA girl!!! :wave2:

I was about to ask whereabouts in MA you were, but this gives me my general answer. :)

I live in Quincy with the DBF now, but if we still lived in the West Bridgewater area we would have gone with Green in an instant.

:goodvibes: I hope you are able to find a flight.

I have just read througth all of your primary posts and must say you are an awesome writer!
We will be in the World the 16-21 of September so we'll over lap in the parks about a day. (Free dining is soooo exciting!)
Shoes are my best friend...well one of them. When ever you want to go shopping but are fealing down they will always fit just right!
Crocs I am not a fan of. But seeing as you like flip-flops I will give you one word to the most comfortable ones ever! :) Rainbows :) They even have a life time warrenty!

My friend Jill and I say "meh" when we don't feel one way or another about something. Funny!

Ha! I take the train in from Middleborough.

We use "meh" in that context as well. It's just a fun word!

I work in Westborough. Dang boroughs! It's an epidemic.

Oh my goodness. That is such a compliment. Thank you so very much. I'm not really sure if I could ever thinking of myself of joining the ranks of the ZZUBs and the LaLas and such, the "greats" of the DIS TR boards, but really, that made me smile and feel good about what I'm doing/writing.

I really enjoy being able to share with people, particularly if it means they're smiling and laughing. There's far too much in this world (but not World) that brings on unhappy tears. Sharing the happy makes me happy. It's also a wonderful creative outlet for me, since being an admin offers a rather limited scope for creativity.

Again, thank you so much for the compliment; it really made my day.

if we still lived in the West Bridgewater area

You used to be so close to me!!! I pass WB every morning on the train. :goodvibes

Never heard of them. I'm going to have to check them out. Thanks!

I work in Westborough. Dang boroughs! It's an epidemic.

My mom used to work, and I used to intern, in Southboro. I've had many a lunch at the Tin Alley on Rte. 9. If you've never been there you should stop in. Great pub style (and then some) menu!

This is only a test.

Had this been a real Loser Watchers and Pizza Abs emergency, instructions would follow.

Oh.

And chocolate.

So, it's Thursday, which is weigh-in day, and I had to do a little ticker reconfigurin' this morning. In a bad way. Then in a good way.

Because I gained five pounds immediately upon annoucing my goal to lose 20-ish prior to my September trip, it's been daunting every day, looking at that incorrect ticker at the bottom of my screen. PHYSICALLY draining, even.

So, I decided to take action, that way my weight loss goals don't vanish in the sunset much like a Cinnabon might if placed in my hot little hands.

Meaning quickly. And with little regret.

So, I re-set my ticker with a higher starting weight as of last Thursday: 200.8. This was particularly sad since I promised myself never to see 200 again. :sad1:

But then I promptly updated it with this week's weight: 199.4. :upsidedow
That upsidedown grape Skittle is dedicated to the downward motion of the big number...below 200 again. Yay. Phew.

Down 1.4lbs isn't a ton. But it's enough to buoy my motivation.

And this is despite the fact that my emotional lifeboat has sprung a leak today. You know, it's one of those days when I cried because I saw a poor little kitty on the side of the road who had gotten his wings  , and then, quite literally sobbed when not a 1/4 mi. down the road it was a newly be-winged squirrel . Stupid hormones. Stupid life. WHY WHY WHY wasn't I born a Disney princess?

Anyway, suffice it to say I'm happy with the loss and am hoping for another negative number next week. I'm trying to stay focused on my reward - a week spent in my favorite place in the world (the World) eating whatever my heart, stomach, taste buds and hormones desire with no regrets...except for those things which end up going uneaten.

Because THAT my friends is simply a travesty.
