My DTL (Disney Travel Luck) is running a little low right now. Anyone have a pixie I can shake? I hear their dust is lucky.
I logged on to the net and clicked my way over to Southwest's happy lil' webpage yesterday to
finally find the fares and schedules released for the time we'll be headed to the World. I slapped our dates into that puppy and...
...
Well, frankly, I was unimpressed. After I did the puppy dog head tilt, (yeah, I know you know what Im talking about. And I know you just actually did it at your computer screen) I actually made sure I entered everything right and rechecked it because of how flat out "Meh" I felt about the rates they're offering.
Lest you've forgotten, since it was mentioned, oh, I don't know 43 pages back, we're hoping to fly out of Providence into Orlando. But to come home we'll be flying in from Tampa.
Living in Southeastern MA, I have the option of flying out of TF Green in Providence (actually, Warwick, RI) or Logan in Boston. I live about 25 minutes from the Providence airport and it's small (maybe 25-30 gates in one terminal) and I'm super-familiar with it. The only thing it doesn't have going for it is that it doesn't have a Cinnabon.
Unreal.
Logan is much bigger (Terminals A-E with multiple gates at each), I'm not very familiar with it and it doesn't have a Cinnabon either.
Does anyone else consider the availability of hot, soft, sticky, cinnamon-y goodness when they fly?
Anyone?
Bueller?
(Sorry, that was waaaay to easy to pass up.)
We're mostly hoping for Providence because Logan is just so...obnoxious. Ok, not Logan itself. Its the getting to and from Logan that is just so obnoxious.
By way of a Disney comparison, getting to Logan is akin to getting back to your room at the All Star Movies on the 4th of July after the first showing of Wishes at the MK when theyre only running one bus for all three All Stars and you have a double stroller, two overtired toddlers hyped up on cotton candy who refuse to be strolled and must be held, but are really just sliding down the sides of your body and a husband whos not speaking to you because not only did he experience WWIII trying to fold up said unused stroller while the mass of All Star humanity waited behind him, but you also made him stop in the Emporium on the way out and bought a complete Mickey Head dinner service for 6 because wont it look so pretty in our red and black dining room?
Lots of stop and go. Mostly slow-going. Some cursing. Foul-smelling. Altogether too sweaty.
So, we're trying to avoid sweaty Logan for Providence, which used its deodorant before leaving the house.
Strangest. Analogy. Ever. Moving on.
Anywho, the choice might seem obvious. The proverbial wrench is that Logan often offers lower rates because it's a hub, particularly through Jet Blue. With one very important exception.
Southwest out of Providence.
An important point that I haven't stated which you should know is the following: Jet Blue only flies out of Logan, not Providence. Southwest only flies out of Providence, not Logan.
SW also happens to be my favorite airline, so Providence really has a lot going for it right now. In my experience, SW is almost always on time, if not early, its easy to get into Group A and get a good aisle seat near the front of the plane when flying SW out of Providence, and Ive always had really nice flight attendants. Once they danced for us. All men, by the way.
(By the by, Delta Song is hands down the worst airline I've ever flown. Im not even sure if theyre still in operation. But I wouldnt be surprised if Delta slowly and quietly enfolded them back into the corporation based on their customer service alone. I dont really need to hash out the details, but just know that its the only time Ive ever almost gotten violent and used strong language in front of tots in an airport.)
Holy carp, could I stray any further from where Im actually trying to go with this? Gives you a good idea where my mind is at this week. So ANYWAY
To say the least Im unimpressed with SWs offerings right now. And Im not sure what to do. Should I book the best I can get now, wherever it is I can get it, since we have the flexibility of airports and just suck it up if that means leaving and/or coming to/from Logan? Should I wait to see if I can get a better SW rate out of Providence? A DING perhaps? Should I stay? Should I go? Hang on, Im going to ask The Clash.
Its the perennial airfare dilemma. Ugh. My least favorite kind. Id much rather wager the battle over whether or not to buy another pair of 5 black, Steve Madden, peep-toe heels than deal with this.
I would just really, really hate to have to pay more because I waited, but really, what can I do? I suppose were all at the mercy of the airlines. The more I think about it, the more comfortable I am with waiting a bit. TK mentioned shed gotten her best airfare rate for the time of year we're traveling sometime in July. I realize things may change this year because were now paying 8 gazillion dollars for a gallon of gas, but still. I dont think Im ready to settle just yet.
I had given a thought to driving down in a straight shot. Missy and I are good road-trippers together. And Ive always wanted to do that. Its about 22-24 hours, depending on how many Staties you can avoid while bending the speed limit by 5-10mph. However, the aforementioned 8 gazillion dollar per gallon of gas has pretty much shut down that idea. The way I figure it, even if we just get ok rates for the flights, itll still come out to less than wed pay for a 2,500 mi. roundtrips worth of gas.
So really, at the end of this update Im at the exact same place I was at the beginning.
Unimpressed.
Undecided.
Unkempt.
Dont judge. Its been a rough few days. A ponytail is all I could manage to do with my hair this morning. Theyre lucky I remembered to change out of my PJs.
Sorry for the delay in getting this one up. And for it being short-ish. This will be the theme for the next 17 or so days, until the wedding/bachelorette/school madness is complete. I feel like putting up a ticker for that. Because Im so looking forward to having my life back. You know, to spending it DISing.
Dont tell the BF I just wrote that.
