That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Your trip report is hysterical!!!! You are a very talented writer.

Aw shucks. Thank you (all) very much for the compliments. And welcome!!!

My business degree + some credits toward an MBA are not being used as I am a baker. Not a butcher or a candle stick maker but a baker in a kitchen.

OMG! If I were a baker I'd imagine I'd still be shapely. ROUND, in particular. My love affair with baked goods is vast and deep.

We will be arriving in WDW after you have graced it with your presence - October 19-25 and will be staying in the GF.

Well that's no fun. You'll also be there just after my 29th :faint: birthday.

wait...I didn't know we went on vacation together.:rotfl: My last trip to PI was when I was in my 20's and fearless...aren't we all at that age.

We started out (after the first round of drinks, of course) at the BET club. We danced, and I rapped right along with some Ludacris track that I happened to know all the words to...to which one rather large man commented,"Listen to the little white girl go!" Apparently he was rather impressed with my "skillz".

Joining in! Now going back to read.:surfweb:

Howdy and welcome!

I swear Crocs, at least the big clog kind, make me feel like a giant clown or at least a smurf on acid.

Now THIS is one of the funniest things I'VE heard in ages! :lmao:

And speaking of Crocs, I'm going to need to address that issue fairly soon in an upcoming chapter. After a rather interesting compromise/purchase this afternoon. More on that later.

Loving your creative and entertaining prose and looking forward to your next "edition"

Thanks for reading and welcome on board the crazy train.

I'm thinking I may have to beg my DH to take stroller duty so I can run off with the cool kids and drink my way round Epcot! :drinking1 :thumbsup2

Yes, yes, yes! This has my vote!

Well, I did discover something new about us...I am indeed, older...by five days! :rotfl:

Ahhh, so you're my long, lost OLDER sister!

And I had never intended to originally, but somehow your wit and charm has me admitting my real age on the DIS! :scared1:

We're only as old as we let ourselves feel. :goodvibes

But seriously, I am thinking that your Jack Sparrow mascot, and my Jack Sparrow trip action figure should have their very own DIS meet. Think of the possibilities...of all the fun photo ops...it could be very silly, no? :rotfl2:

Oh VERY silly. I found a cute little pirate ship for our Jack today. If by "found" you mean it came in the Big Kids Happy Meal I ordered myself the other night.

Mine too!!! I love them so much -- I feel like Amelia, Emerson, and Ramses are part of my family! :goodvibes

I've never heard of this series, but I'm definitely going to have to look it up!

Update coming shortly.

:flower3:

Alright...any suggestions for how to gently break the news to DH that I have to ditch him to go meet fellow DISers? :thumbsup2 My nana always says that age is a state of mind. I tend to agree, since she's well past retirement and still working. She teaches as an adjunct faculty member at a local university and loves it. I think it really keeps her going.

The fact that a pirate ship via a Happy Meal found its way into your possession just doesn't surprise me at this point...;)

The first in the Amelia Peabody series is called Crocodile on the Sandbank. PM me if you want the list of the whole series. There's quite a few books, but they are excellent! :)

I don't even know how I discovered this. I think one day I was on Amazon, purchased something and it said, if you like such and such, you'll like these. So I went on EBAY and found as many of them as I could in sequence and I am addicted. I read them over and over. I love Amelia, she is everything I wish I could be. What wonderful characters! :coffee:

My mom actually got me hooked on all the books by Elizabeth Peters -- Amelia is my fave though. We went and heard Elizabeth Peters speak at Emory University a while back, and she IS Amelia. She had us laughing the whole time.

Oh that must have been awesome to hear the author speak. Currently I have DS3, and if I ever have a girl, I had actually entertained the notion of naming her Amelia...call me crazy! :rotfl:

Captains log 3.29.08.08.35.

The day dawned sunny and crisp. The birds chirped. Somewhere in the distance, a dog barked.

I was ready. It was time to free Mickeys.

DSCN0133-1.jpg

(Pardon the hive on my lip. I'd kissed one of my kitties on the nose and was paying the price.)

The get-away vehicle:

DSCN0143-1.jpg

(For the record, her name is Baby.)

My plan was in place. As was the back-up plan. And Plan B to the back-up plan. After that, well, it would just be up to the HD gods.

I arrived at the scene of the crime:

DSCN0146.jpg

DSCN0147.jpg

There was no turning back now.

As you can see by the parking lot, the store was pretty empty. I took this as a good sign. I headed in, trying to wear my best I'm-choosing-paint-for-my-home expression.

As I approached the paint department, I couldn't see any employees anywhere. Score! Just then, a pretty blonde girl in an orange HD apron rounded the corner. DARN IT! My well-done eye make-up would be useless. My well-mascara-ed eyelash batting would be for naught. However, she didn't even seem to know I existed.

Let the "borrowing" begin.

I was nervous. Truly nervous. Thinking about it now, I'm not really sure why, but my heart was beating a lil' bit faster, I tell you. I "cruised" the paint samples - Disney, Behr, Disney, Ralph Lauren, Disney, back to Behr, collecting samples as I went. (In my defense, I would validly paint multiple rooms in my home any of the color samples I borrowed. Someday they may very well be put to good use.)

It got hairy as HD Paint Girl's HD friends decided to have a little pow-wow in the department. I did my best to look casual. Finally, I was done. My eyes were on the prize. And on the door.

Was I successful? Was I able to liberate dozens of MHs from their post by their brothers in the Ralph Lauren designer paint display? Is my face now posted in worldwide HD Loss Prevention offices as an official "Paint Chip Pilferer"?

I present you the results of today's foray:

The Decoys
DSCN0144.jpg

The freed captives!
(They may take our land, but they'll never take our FREEDOM!)
DSCN0145.jpg

I made it out of the store with an upwards of 70-ish MHS...including a few lime green ones!!! For posterity and all. (Including some for a few Scottish princesses. ;) ) While that may seem like a lot (although my 70-ish is nothing compared to someone's 142-ish) rest assured they will all be put to good use.

So, I'm happy to say that today's plan was executed flawlessly. I sit here writing this update, with PoTC3 playing in the background, MHs slumbering quietly in their new, roomier home in one of my craft drawers, already thinking of the garlands, countdown calendars and cards I can make.

The rest of my day was also pleasant and included a rather interesting, impulse buy that will likely appear in my next chapter. But for that, you'll have to wait. As much as I love to DIS, my eyelids are heavy and I can hear my pillow calling my name.

Until we meet again. Sweet Disney Dreams.

:flower3:

I think Charlston Princess should take this one. She was the one who was able to convince her DH to a 3-day trip for the P&PP in under 5 minutes. :rotfl:

The fact that a pirate ship via a Happy Meal found its way into your possession just doesn't surprise me at this point...;)

I freely admit that I was just trying to win a trip to WDW. I was feeling lucky (but, also, apparently wrong). The pirate ship was just a bonus.

The first in the Amelia Peabody series is called Crocodile on the Sandbank. PM me if you want the list of the whole series. There's quite a few books, but they are excellent! :)

Thanks to both of you for the recommendation. I was about to head off to bed, but I think I'll drop by my paperbackswap.com account first to see if I can get me hands on a few of these.

G'night!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Thank you, thank you, thank you from a very happy Scottish mammy, those LGMH's look so cute:love: . You are very kind and how fab that your covert operation went seamlessly :cool1: I'm sure the US government agencies could put you to very good use;)

If you ever take a fancy for anything Scottish that you cant get in the US let me know and I'll be right on it (I do not include Ewan McGregor or James McAvoy in that...thinking more along the lines of tablet or some other waist expanding tooth rottingyummyness:rotfl: )

Oh you're very welcome.

And you're sure I couldn't just borrow Ewan McGregor? ;)

I think the key is to be suitably sick and pitiful looking. Then, when DH asks what he can do to help you feel better, you spring your request on him. At that point, it would be churlish for him to tell you no. :thumbsup2

That's the best I can come up with off-the-cuff. I will continue mulling over alternate plans that may work better. ;)

Darn it -- no Ewan McGregor or James McAvoy? :( What about Gerard Butler (isn't he Scottish)? Because, if you could send him my way, I am pretty sure I could find some LGMH for you, too! :rotfl2:

Oh how I wish this method would work with the BF. Instead I imagine the conversation more along these lines:

ME: (whimpering lightly from my tomb of blankets on the couch) Oh honey. (more whimpering)
BF: (from his station on the OTHER side of the couch, you know, where the germs won't tread) What's wrong baby?
ME: (sniffle, sniffle) I'm dying. Really dying here. (commence crocodile tears)
BF: (giving in and cuddling me up) What can I do, baby? How can I make you feel better?
ME: (hitching breath) Anything?
BF: (almost imperceptible pause) Sure.
ME: A trip to Disney would make me all better. I'd surely live.
BF: (getting up off the couch and going to Purell himself) Oh. I was thinking more along the lines of Nyquil.

Sweet Lord, I'd forgotten about Gerard Butler. IMDB confirms that sweet face and those rather, ahem, enticing, abs were born in Glasgow, Scotland. I'd boldly walk into HD, take all the LGMHs they had, run out screaming that I'd taken them ALL AND let you keep Ewan and James in trade for Gerard Butler.

Though it sounds like me and the Princess of Charleston are going to have to throw down for him. :headache:

A very quick update that I think deserved to be its own chapter.

Because....

IT'S OFFICIAL!

DSCN0153-1.jpg

They have acknowledged we're coming! When I checked yesterday's mail this morning, this was waiting for me. Matter of fact, I just left everything else in the mailbox and took this in to read it. (I mean really, the rest was just bills.) It comes with a bunch of other information any good DISer already knows, but it's still super-exciting to have.

Now, only 5+ months to go...::sigh::

Congratulations on liberating the Mickey Heads of various colors, and your confirmation! It's so exciting...now if only April would get here so I can see if they release free dining. I've changed my "trip itinerary" so many times I can't count, asked DH for opinions on where to eat (he's happy anywhere) and perused allears.net menus so many times, I'm a wealth of restaurant info...that is if I can remember it all after DS woke up three times last night...don't know why...normally a great sleeper...alrighty, enough rambling. Getting back on track, I am so :woohoo: for you!

:woohoo: :woohoo: We got ours a few weeks ago too. I always LOVE seeing this in the mail box. It's almost as exciting as the one you get 45 days before the trip with the luggage tags.

:lmao: :lmao: I love that you took so man decoys along with the MH's. Excellent stash you acquired though. Good work!

Yeah, we might have to rumble! Although on my end, it would probably resemble the fight between Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones's Diary! ;)

A very quick update that I think deserved to be its own chapter.

Hooray for Disney mail! :woohoo:

Hey Girlies, if I could get my hands on Gerard Butler he'd be fit for nothing :faint: by the time I was ready to ship him out to you:love1: . He realy didn't interest me until I had a very unusual dream in which he starred a few weeks ago  I must have been sub consiously lusting after him puckerup:

The first in the Amelia Peabody series is called Crocodile on the Sandbank.

I just ordered this from Paperbackswap. Looking forward to getting it. I'll have to give it priority when it comes in so that it doesn't end up on my bookshelves with the 37 other books I "need to read".

now if only April would get here so I can see if they release free dining.

I'm subscribed to one of the September free dining threads and people are obsessing and analyzing the possible release of a free dining promotion like I had to analyze research studies using 2X2 ANOVAs in Behavioral Statistics last semester. I'm hoping for it as much as the next OCD DISer, but I refuse to stress about it. We're going regardless.

Either way, rumor is a release date of 4/10.

It's almost as exciting as the one you get 45 days before the trip with the luggage tags.

:woohoo:

I love that you took so man decoys along with the MH's.

They took one for the team.

Hey, when do you get this???

I'm guessing you mean the letter? I don't know the rhyme or reason as to when or why it's sent. But if it's any help, my trip is in 5 months and 3 weeks and it's paid in full.

That man does things to my hormones that just aren't natural! :rotfl:

I'm tempted, now, to pull out and watch our copy of 300 on repeat.
THIS IS SPARTA!!!!

Yeah, we might have to rumble! Although on my end, it would probably resemble the fight between Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones's Diary! ;)

Read the book. Still haven't seen the movie!

Hey Girlies, if I could get my hands on Gerard Butler he'd be fit for nothing :faint: by the time I was ready to ship him out to you

This made me laugh SO HARD. He certainly a hottie. Him and all 76 of his abs.

Alright, you cannot let that book sit on your shelf...trust me! It's too good. ;)

What am I supposed to be doing right now...why, working out at the gym like I do every other day...what am I doing...tooling around the DIS while DH and DS both take a nap...ah, the DIS...my own personal addiction. :lovestruc
