That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Work is SO overrated. I hear staying home and being independently wealthy is the next big thing. BF should SO get on that.

I've been trying to tell people that for years.

Purchases.
I made two online orders from Gap.com and Old Navy.com as they had a bunch of shorts on clearance. I know that I have shorts for the trip (and they're actually already packed and good to go) and they fit ok, but I didn't lose the weight I'd been hoping to pre-trip (stupid Life) and so might just benefit from a couple of new, looser pairs. They could come in as late as next week but I'm hoping they ship early and I get them this week. Everything's returnable and I ordered two sizes in each so that I'd have my pick. Most of them were between $9.99 and $14.99 and I had $40 in Gap gift cards, so I did ok.

Sounds like some great deals!

Speaking of laundry, I decided against picking up detergent, thanks to BF. I mentioned bringing a small thing of detergent and some quarters with me on the trip and he said, "Why? Just bring home your dirty laundry, honey, and I'll take care of it."

Yes. He CAN be cloned, ladies. For a fee.
I have future Disney trips to pay for, doncha know.

A man who does laundry? Let me know what the cloning fee is for one of those. I may be interested.

5. New mouse ears, hopefully with Tinkerbellarella on the back. Not sure if they can fit it.

What a good idea!

1. My next Disney trip. I'm really at odds with this one. I know the Bounceback promo is in full effect. And I'd love it if it were offered for, say, the Yacht & Beach Club (the next Deluxe I want to try) or for Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans, but I'm waffling. As much as I'm hoping it is, I just don't know if, financially, it's in the cards for next year. BUT...my long lost sweet sis just might have convinced me last night...considering it's only a $200 deposit and it could always be cancelled.

I swear I must have been the only one who wasn't offered a bounceback offer this trip. Very annoying.

9. Cheddar Cheese Soup

Just tried this for the first time this trip. So good. I don't know why I never tried it before.

I believe I did see a tea ball with mouse ears on it. I believe it was at Mousegears in EPCOT. :thumbsup2

And my list for next year is already growing. I'm going to have to save up even more for the next trip.

Work is SO overrated. I hear staying home and being independently wealthy is the next big thing. BF should SO get on that.

I KNOW I would be well-suited for this lifestyle! :rotfl:

15 Days!!
Test Track has been engineered to withstand winds up to 200 miles per hour.
(How apt in light of Hannah, Ike and Josephine!)

Okay, I read this and couldn't help but think -- what about the other buildings at Epcot? Because it might look kind of weird if Test Track is the only thing left standing. At any rate, I am so headed there during the next tornado warning!

14 Days!!
In 1966, Walt Disney was diagnosed with lung cancer, contracted after years of smoking cigarettes. His illness and its connection to cigarette smoking prompted the Imagineers to remove Rod Serling's signature cigarette from the pre-show video in the Tower of Terror.
(Makes me think of my grammy, the lady who started it all! Love you, grammy! Miss you always! "See you" in two weeks!)

This makes me all teary-eyed because I am an emotional wreck today, and I never knew my great-grandfather because he died from lung cancer when my mom was 16.

I have added one new item to the "Do Before Disney or Die" list:
See Cars.
Nope.
Haven't seen it.
Used a line from it today in a post and had no idea it was even from that movie.
I think I'm going to rent it from Blockbuster and try to watch it on my laptop on a couple of my commutes to/from work.

Don't feel bad -- I haven't either.

Here's my funny story about that movie. My best friend and I had a theme song when we were in high school. It was "Life is a Highway" and we would belt it out in the car while we did all manner of rebellious things that I hope my daughter never even thinks of!

Fast forward 15 years to a phone conversation between myself and BFF.

Me: You want to know how I know we are old?
BFF: How?
Me: When our song of rebellion and teen-age independence becomes a theme song for a DISNEY MOVIE!!!!!!

So, that's that. I think I can't bring myself to watch Cars.

Great lists!!! I want a junky apple on the next trip!

Seriously folks.
I thought I posted this yesterday.
And no one was responding.
Because no one liked me anymore.
And I thought to myself:
"Self, do you smell?"

Then I checked over here.
And saw that this here PTR was updateless as of yesterday.

WHA???

So, a day late, a buck short (NOBambi'sDad) and here it is.
To be followed almost immediately by today's update.

It's a twofer.

Oh.
But there's no trivia for yesterday or today.
Because I forgot my countdown calendar at home.
Twice.
::sigh::

TWELVE DAY LIST

12. Go horseback riding at Fort Wilderness.
11. Sit for the DVC presentation (and then sob, weep and sign over all of my future children for a DVC membership because I'm not sure how you say "No" to those uber-happy DVC people in their ironed outfits and shiny smiles).
10. Go to Blizzard Beach.
9. Have a complete "resort" day, spent by the pool with not a foot set in the parks.
8. Visit and photograph all of the resorts (I'm delaying this one for a long-ish trip when I have a DSLR).
7. Tea at the Grand Floridian.
6. A visit to DisneyQuest.
5. Dinner at Wolfgang Puck's.
4. A stay at the Contemporary.
3. Have two full days at every park (I've almost accomplished this in the past.
2. Ride every, single, attraction and see every single show at least once (barring ONLY the Teacups).

The only one of your things that I have managed to accomplish is to stay at the Contemporary. It was so fun!

I am planning on tea at the Grand Floridian in 2010. (Is it a sign of addiction to already have trip plans for two years from now??? )

Eleven days.
Once dias.
2 days from single digits.
One week and four more days.
1 + 10 days.
264 hours.
15,840 minutes.
950,400 seconds.

We're at 11 days, folks. In case you weren't following along.

And every day that passes, I become more acutely aware of just how much I NEED this vacation.

There may be yet another update today after I make some calls to Disney Dining (gasp!), possibly swap around my itinerary (gasp! gasp!) and even add another park night (gasp! gasp! gasp!...someone get me a paper bag please). But I'm not even sharing a hint of what's going on until I've had it out with Disney Dining which, no joke, only has, like TWO ADRs available for the entire week I'm there right now.

Cross your fingers.
Toes.
Kitties' fingers and toes.
And the street (but look both ways first, please).

And stay tuned.
Later.
Right now you can read this list.
Then go catch up on all of your other subscriptions.

5. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
4. A Bug's Life
3. Tarzan (In my defense, TK, I've seen almost all of it, in parts, AND "You'll Be In My Heart" is one of my all time favorite songs. Can we still be friends?)
2. Mulan
1. CARS

:flower3:

Wow! Girl -- you could totally watch one of those each night before bed -- then you would be all caught up before the trip.

Only Meet the Robinsons and Cars have escaped my viewing -- the rest I think I know by heart -- except for The Fox and the Hound because I hate it -- it makes me sob.

Can't wait to hear about the possible changes...popcorn::

I think you've been peeking somehow at my to-do list for next year. I think at least half of these are on my list. How'd you manage to find that list?;)

I am planning on tea at the Grand Floridian in 2010. (Is it a sign of addiction to already have trip plans for two years from now??? )

Tea at the GF is on my list for my next trip. I figured a solo trip was perfect for it since I know that no one in my family would want to go. I'm feeling better about my 12/09 plans though.

Cross your fingers.
Toes.

I am planning on tea at the Grand Floridian in 2010. (Is it a sign of addiction to already have trip plans for two years from now??? )

Nope.
Because I do the same darn thing.
I even have a semi-plan for an "ULTIMATE DISNEY" 14-day trip which I WILL complete someday. I will.

Wow! Girl -- you could totally watch one of those each night before bed -- then you would be all caught up before the trip.

So. You coming to pack me up, then? Whilst I watch these movies??? LOLOL

The Fox and the Hound because I hate it -- it makes me sob.

Also, never seen Song of the South.
There are others too, but today's list only fits eleven. ;)

I think you've been peeking somehow at my to-do list for next year. I think at least half of these are on my list. How'd you manage to find that list?;)

You left it out on the counter. I was snooping for cookies.

Tea at the GF is on my list for my next trip. I figured a solo trip was perfect for it

This is my plan too. I would've tried for this trip but Missy's not a tea person.

Do they take away the Disney license if you fall too far behind?

Only if they pull you over.

Oh.

Hey V. Thanks for the warning.
Mental note: Steer clear of DVC people for they magically suck money out of your checking account without making you feel sorry about it.

Please press one."

THIS, or some form of this recording, is what SHOULD be playing on 407-WDW-DINE right now. Because scoring an ADR for any meal at any time in the next two weeks is almost laughable.

Almost.

Unless you're as persistent as moi.

"But wait a tic, why would you be calling Disney Dining NOW, Tinkerbellarella???" you ask.

Well.

WELL.

::sigh::

I tell you. I went HOW many months without making any changes at all to my resort, my itinerary, my ADRs. I was running a hot streak! I'd defeated it! Admittedly, I did second guess that San Angel Inn ADR for a bit but I kept it! I didn't change! I'd BEAT the resort-changing, ADR-dancing, itinerary-swapping disease!!!!!

You know where this is going, right?

Are you sitting down?

Yes, folks, a change in plans. A couple. And there could possibly be more.

I figure the most sensible way to discuss said changes are by revisiting the itinerary, day by day:

Saturday, 9/20/08
Arrival day! Our flight is scheduled to arrive in Orlando at 11:15 a.m. I'm hoping that when all is said and done with the luggage collection and transfer, we'll be at the Poly check-in desk no later than 12:30 p.m. We're scheduled to have our tootsies done at the spa at the GF at 2:00 p.m.
Possible Change #1: The original plans have Missy and I meeting up with the TK clan for LapuLapus at the Tambu Lounge for LapuLapuFest 2008 at 4:00 p.m. Unfortunately, waaaaay too late in the planning process (read: this past Sunday) we began discussing having dinner together in lieu of just drinkypoos.
Want to know how that's working out for us?
The ONLY reservation for 5 people in the MK area (they'll be at MK that night) is a 9:30 p.m. at Artist Pointe. Much, much, much too late for TK's nugget.
Our other alternative is to meet for breakfast the next morning at Captain Cook's. ADRs are no problem since it's CS. And they have Tonga Toast. Missy likely would sit this one out to sleep in.
Stay tuned to see what we decide.
Our dinner ressies for the 20th currently remain unchanged: 6:35 p.m. at O'hana. We haven't really decided what to do for the night but I've tossed around the idea of a trip to the MK to see the regular version of Wishes, a trip to DTD or PI or just making and early night of it at the resort.

Sunday, 9/21/08
Our first full day is our Epicot day. No changes here. We have a 6:00 p.m ADR at the San Angel Inn. This is also the day we'll be Drinkin' 'Round the World.

Monday, 9/22/08
MGM (NODHS) day! I'm still a little miffed that Lights! Motor! Action will be dark and am hoping that maybe it'll reopen early. If not, we likely won't be able to fit it in and it too will have to wait for the next trip. :(
We have a 9:00 a.m. breakfast ressie at Kona.
Possible Change #: I might cancel Kona.
Wait.
Pick yourself up off the floor.
There's good reasoning behind this.
I can have my Tonga Toast every darn day if I really want it from Captain Cook's. And Missy is not a big breakfast fan, though I think she'd LOVE the Kona coffee. In a way, it's almost a waste of a reservation. The biggest reason it hasn't been canceled? I don't think I'm going to find anything to use the then-available TS credit. Seriously folks, when I say the restaurants are booked, they are BOOKED. For example, I've been toying around with the idea of a ressie at California Grill.
Yeah.
Booked.
The WHOLE week.
Not one single opening, even for a party of one.
Nothing.
Nada.
No CG for you! You come back one year!
(Ok.)
So, for now, Kona will stand as is and Missy will enjoy the coffee and pick at breakfast while I make a complete and utter fool of myself over Tonga Toast.
Then we'll head to MGM and spend the day and into the evening EMHs. We also have a 5:55 p.m. ADR for the 50's Prime Time Cafe. No changes there.

Tuesday, 9/23/08
Remains unchanged. MK day. Break from the MK late afternoon for a 5:15 p.m. ADR at Le Cellier. Then back to the MK for MNSSHP.

Wednesday, 9/24/08 and Thursday, 9/25/08
Definite Change #1: Originally we were scheduled to be at AK today, but I didn't think that was the smartest idea after such a long night at the MK. And our free day wasn't set until Thursday. Switching the two days made sense but ONLY if I'd also be able to also switch my ADRs.
After sacrificing a small goat (kidding) to the Disney Dining gods, I called. And held my breath. Then almost passed out. But revived myself just in time to talk to Rebecca. Who told me I could only change my Tutto Italia ressie to 8:30 p.m. on 9/24 but that I could have a 5:00 p.m. Rainforest Cafe ressie on 9/25. I took the latter. Held out on the former. Got my new confirmation number. Hung up. Immediately felt remorse for not taking the 8:30 p.m. Tutto Italia. Called back. Asked Elenka (dear LORD how I know I'm butchering her name) about Tutto again for 9/24. Also asked about Teppan Edo. Was offered a 4:30 p.m. ressie at Teppan Edo and that same 8:30 p.m. ressie at Tutto. Hemmed. Hawed. Tried to book both. Was shot down. Finally took the 8:30 Tutto Italia.
Still with me?
I can wait.
....
Welcome back.
SO. Now. On Wednesday, 9/24, we'll be kicking back for a lazy day at the resort followed by what I'm hoping will be a late afternoon stroll around the World Showcase and a leisurely meal at Tutto. On Thursday, 9/25, we'll be visiting with the aminals a la AK and eating ourselves silly at the Rainforest Cafe, just as the park is closing. I'd like to make a trip to DTD after dinner as well.

Friday, 9/26/08
I have NO IDEA yet what we'll be doing today. And probably won't until we're actually there. It's all hinging on what Missy and her sister want to do, as her sister is kind enough to come and get us in the first place. We may visit a park, we may have another leisurely resort morning/afternoon, we may head to Tampa early.

There you have it, folks. The slightly revamped plans which I may revamp slightly. It all depends on:
a.) whether or not I'm arrested for harrassing Disney Dining for a CG ressie
b.) I have more ADR remorse and wish I'd taken the 4:30 p.m. Teppan Edo ressie (which truthfully felt too early for dinner after a lounge-y type day)
c.) TK and I finally pin down what we want to do
d.) I win the lottery, buy everyone DVC and have a big "Dining Is Free Because Tinkerbellarella Is Paying For It" party. (If you don't get your invite in the mail, it's because I didn't win. Not because you smell.)

I'm feeling a little more complete now.

:goodvibes

Sounds good. I defintiely agree that the 4:30 ressie was way too early. My brother had made a 3:30 dinner adr this trip. :scared1: Don't know what in the world he was thinking. I wasn't hungry at dinner, and was starving by the time Fantasmic started.

Okay, I think I just hallucinated.

Hold on....

ok.

Phew, girl, those are some dining switcheroos! NoUnderoos. Yikes! And so as not to further curse us, I refuse to comment on our current non-decision. I know what I'm leaning towards, and I know that I also plan to call Disney Dining again.

Just sayin'. Stay tuned. :happytv:

I love your lists, they're great! I think my favorite on the first one was spending a whole day at the resort and not stepping foot in a park.

Oh, the heaven! :cloud9: Seriously, I would love to do that.

You know, I just may.:thumbsup2

And honestly, it is only my great love of you that keeps me from :scared1: over the fact that you've never watched all of Tarzan.

Honey, you need to see this film. In its entirety. It is soooooo good. And keep in mind, you can meet him at MNSSHP. Now wouldn't it be embarassing if you met him and hadn't watched his film? Because he is glorious. Hello abs. I mean, glorious. So let's sort your priorities. 1. Tarzan 2. Cars Think of Cars as a substitute for LMA! :lmao:

I am planning on tea at the Grand Floridian in 2010. (Is it a sign of addiction to already have trip plans for two years from now??? )

If you read TK's pre-trippie, you already kinda know what you're getting today.
If you don't read TK's pre-trippie, you should. And not just because it's good. Also because I said so.
And it's good.
So there's that.

Way too late in the game, my sweet sister Leia a.k.a. TK a.k.a. TarzansKat a.k.a. #1 on Disney Dining's Most Wanted list (I'm #2) and I began discussing things. Things of the meet and greet sort.

Until this past Sunday, our meet and greet was only to include rum and citrus libations and maybe some apps. Then I caved. I was hoping we could sup together. So she called Disney Dining. I imagine it went down something like this:

"Yes, I was hoping you had something for a party of 5 sometime between 5 and 7 p.m. on September 20th at one of the Magic Kingdom or monorail accessible restaurants...Um, hello?...::sigh::...I'd really appreciate it if you would stop laughing and would just help me...Hello?...Ok, the laughing, I get it...THIS ISN'T VERY MAGICAL YOU KNOW!"

Strike one.

I promised TK I'd try early Monday morning, hoping people had decided to simply not eat overnight. My conversation was like this:

Tink: "Hi I was hoping to..."
DisneyDining: "No."
Tink: "Huh? I mean I..."
DD: "Nope. Uh-uh."
Tink: "But."
DD: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO."
Tink: "Thanks."
DD: "Have a magical day."

Strike two.

Then TK messages me yesterday.
She's just gotten off the phone with Disney Dining.
And they had soup for TK.
No "come back one year!" for TK.
NoNoNo, folks!

It's ON!
Til the break of DAWN!

Or at least at 5:40 p.m. on 9/20/08 for a party of 5 at Citricos at the GF.

Home run!

Someone just may have stood up and done the running man in her cube.

Maybe.

So that's it, folks.
Consider yerselves warned, ye be.
Two great powers are now destined to collide.
The two halves of the Force will once again be reunited.
Laverne and Shirley are about to party!

And I couldn't be happier about it. :goodvibes

No other ADRs were harmed in the making of this ADR.
Except O'hana. Which has been nixed in favor of Citricos.
Oh, and because it's a Signature dining restaurant, we'll now be paying for Kona breakfast OOP.

So, if you're in the market for a 6:35 p.m. reservation on 9/20/08 for a party of 2, gentleman, start your engines.....NOW!

Oh.
And before I forget...
