Thanksgiving - Which Park?

Going on Thanksgiving too! This will be our first visit during the Thanksgiving break. DW wants to see the Osbourne Lights at HS, so we're planning to spend the whole day there. Also tossing around the idea of going to the MVMCP at the MK on Sunday night the 30th. :goodvibes

In 2011, we went to WDW for Thanksgiving and we went to MVMCP on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It was the best one we ever went to - we walked on to most rides with no wait. We also staked out a spot for the parade in Frontierland about an hour beforehand. We realized later that we could have shown up 20 min before the parade and gotten a great spot.

We were also in MK on that Sunday during the day and most of the rides were walk ons then as well. I guess a lot of people must leave WDW on that Saturday, so Sunday is a great park day!

Thanks! I'm also thinking that a lot of travelers will leave on the Saturday or Sunday. :)

We were there for Thanksgiving 2011. On Thanksgiving day, we went to Epcot and it wasn't crowded at all. We got to Epcot at rope drop and stayed at Epcot until mid-afternoon, then went back to our resort (AKV).

We had dinner at Boma, which was excellent. They had their usual buffet offerings, as well as turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc.

After dinner, we went to HS to see the Osbourne Lights.

We were last there at Thanksgiving during November 2012 and spent the morning (arrived at rope drop) in the park, got a lot done, then the crowds just seemed to appear. So we got out and I don't recall what we did for the rest of the day! :confused3

So glad to read this about Boma. We've done several Thanksgiving meals at WDW and have never been thrilled about any of them. We always miss having some hand-carved turkey so this year we are trying Boma. I'm hoping it works out well for us.

Honestly we've been thinking about doing the Universal Park for Thanksgiving. Would really like to see the new HP section but the thought of those crowds SCARE me! It used to be the Universal parks were empty Thanksgiving day, but I don't think that is the case any longer. We may have to postpone Universal parks for sometime next spring or summer when the buzz and newness dies down.

So that leaves us wide open for Thanksgiving day until dinner! ;)

Our plan is to do rope drop at DAK, head to lunch at Trail's End at 2:30 and then to DHS for lights.

Did Thanksgiving at WDW last year.

Hit up Magic Kingdom at rope drop and stayed until around 1. Back to resort to rest and then went over to AK at around 5 until close. AK was not busy at all. Had a great time until we received a call during a late dinner at Yak and Yeti that a close family member had passed away. I felt so bad for our server because we were having such a great time (there were only 2 other tables with people in the whole place) and then he comes back and we were all sobbing.

We spent Thanksgiving '13 at AK. The park was not too crowded, and we had our dinner at Yak and Yeti. They even honored our discount (I think we used our DVC but it could have been AP) even though it was a holiday. It was a great day.

We are going this Thanksgiving and it will be our 2nd to last day after being there a week so our plan is a character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare and then Either DHS/Epcot or both. We have dinner reservations at Cape May Buffet so plan to at least hit Osborne lights that night.
