Thanksgiving Menus

Lasagne and an atipasto plate are traditional additions to the Italian families menu. Just ask Tony Danza!!!

As for Mac n Cheese...its a tradition in my families menu but then we have turkey and ham or roast beef on our menu too! My mom makes her mac n cheese from a buttr/cream and cheese sauce with elbow mac and bakes it in the oven then tops it with more cheese and bakes additional 10 minutes or until cheese on top browns. We all fight over who gets the "burned" cheese!

My DH is from PA. The first time he had T-Day with my family, he pulled me aside and asked where the mac and cheese was! I looked at him funny and he said his family always had it for T-Day and thought everyone else did too! On the other hand, not only had he never had greenbean caserole for T-Day, he'd never even heard of it, and around here THAT'S a staple for T-Day!

So, maybe it's a regional thing?

I haven't totally decided on our menu for Turkey Day, but I am getting some good ideas to make some changes!! We usually have "the usual": turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, rolls. This year I want to change a few things (like that green bean casserole!).

Jenny- would you consider sharing your recipe for Sex in a Bowl? It sounds divine!

One weird tradition my family has is that we eat White Castles for lunch on Thanksgiving day. It started when my brother, sister and I were little and we do it every year.

Ann :earsgirl:
Sex in a Bowl
1 box Devil's Food Cake...Cooked and crumbled
1 cup Kahlu
1 Box pudding- premaid
I container cool whip
1 smashed Heath bar

1 Pour Kahlua into crumbled up cake..Mix... You can leave out the Kahlua ..If you really like Kahlua you can use more
2 Layer half of cake, half of pudding half of cool Whipe
3 repeat layers
4 Drop crumbled up Heath Bars on top
Tips... You can really have fun with this.I've used vanilla pudding,Buterschotch pudding..Chocolate Cool Whip..Butterfingers in place of Heath.. Have fun..You can't go wrong
Usually I double this recipe and use 2 boxes of everything...I don't make 4 layers, just 2 bigger ones

Probably the usual suspects in our house:
Turkey
Cornbread stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Green beans & almonds
Fruit salad
Cranberry sauce
Pickles/olives
Dinner rolls

Pumpkin Pie & some sort of apple concoction- my favorite is a Pampered Chef recipe- mix apples, cranberry sauce and some sugar together; top with sliced sugar cookie dough and bake til dough is browned. YUMMY.

DH won't be here for Thanksgiving, again (Iraq).........so hopefully we'll just have a mellow day, play games with the kids, and such so we can keep the mood upbeat.

Thanks, Jenny. I am going to make this Saturday as a grown up alternative to the birthday cupcakes I'll be serving the kids. It sounds delicious!!
