JennyMominRI,
I would love to know what your dessert called "Sex in a Bowl" consists of!

Well, my sister does Thanksgiving (I do Christmas) but the two neverchanging items on our Thanksgiving menu are turkey and stuffed grape leaves. Those that marry into our family think it's an odd combo but my dad used to make the grape leaves and it was the one food we kids always requested for holidays and birthday dinners so it's become a tradition. :teeth: And they're delish!

I'm curious about Jenny's dessert menu, too! Tell us more!

It has other names and lots of deviations but basically its a layer of Devils food cake and kahlua, crumbled up..A layer of chocolate pudding and a layer of Cool Whip. I use 2 layers and top with crumbled Heath bars...Usually when people eat it they go Ooooooooooooooooooooh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hence the name

Mom is making:

Turkey, all the fixings, and lasagna... YUMMMY!!!!

I haven't decide what to have yet, but I am actually going to cook this year. We usually go out for Thanksgiving dinner since it is usually just myself, DD and my sister. Last year we had Thanksgiving dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table. This year, DD wants to just stay home. It sounds good to me. My sister will be working, so it will just be DD and I. I guess we'll have lots of leftovers!

I usually host Thanksgiving if we're not at WDW!

I'm pretty sure there'll be:

Big turkey hot from the oven
My dad's stuffing (pepperidge farm with stuff added)
Giblet gravy
Mashed potatoes
The green bean casserole
Rice
Broccoli casserole
Sweet Potato casserole
Rolls
Salad
Fruit
mac and cheese
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie

I think that's about it.
It's good! I could seriously just eat the turkey, stuffing, and pie and be done!

On our Thanksgiving table this year:

Roast Turkey with Maple Glaze, Apples and Ginger Butter Sauce
Candied Ham
Candied Sweet Potatoes
Corn and cornbread casserole or Nantucket Corn Pudding - haven't decided yet
Green Bean casserole
Mashed potatoes & homemade gravy
Hot rolls
Fruit salad - though I might try the Broken Glass Jello recipe someone here posted!
Cranberry chutney

For dessert:
Pumpkin pie - I think I'm getting them from Costco this year because they're so good, and taste homemade
Pumpkin cheesecake - also from Costco!
Baked Apples
Zuchinni Bread
Caramel Apples - for the kids

Beverages:
Wine
Apple cider
Champurrado
Egg nog

I've already started buying the food so I don't have to shop at the last minute!

I brought that to a party the other day and everyone did just that...Oooooooooooooh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :teeth:

As for Thanksgiving dinner, we'll probably be having turkey, stuffing, mashed potato's, cranberry sauce and pie for dessert.

OH!!! You silly Americans! :rotfl2:

I must have had a brain freeze. I couldn't figure out why you were planning your thanksgiving 11 months in advance. It took me a full minute to remember Canadians and Americans don't celebrate thanksgiving at the same time. :tilt:

We are always HOME for Thanksgiving because in Kansas City it is a very special day! It may be Thanksgiving by daylight... but at night fall it is the first day of the Christmas season! That night thousands of us go to the "Plaza Lighting Ceremony"! (The Plaza is a beautiful part of our city... all the architecture is copied from Seville Spain. The buildings are unique & impressive, with lots of towers & Spainish tile; and the whole area is like an outdoor museum with art work, stautes & beautiful fountains everywhere you look.)
At Christmas they out line all the buildings in the area with lights... 75 miles of lights!! And they turn them all on with a flip of a switch that night! Then there is a fireworks display! It is a big celebration!
Check it out: http://www.countryclubplaza.com (You have to wait a few seconds for the statue to disappear.)

We will be eating...

Antipasto platter (pepperoni, pickles, peppers, salami, olives, cheese, etc)
Roast Turkey
Grandma's Oyster Dressing
Giblet Gravy
Mashed Sweet Potatoes (just butter... they're naturally sweet)
Pear Jello Salad (yumm... pears, cream cheese, cool whip, lemon jello & ground pecans)
Brussel Sprouts with Cheese sause
Broiled Asperagus
Home Made Dinner Rolls
Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream or
Apple Pie with Ice Cream

Whatever they have at Boma! :teeth: This is the first 'married' year of my life that I haven't made Thanksgiving dinner. It feels kind of weird...but I'll get over it. :goodvibes

Pizza. :rotfl2:

Well, that's what I wish we were having because I'm having Thanksgiving day dinner here and I have to do the cooking for about 23 or so people. And I hate to cook.

But the good news is we are leaving the next day for WDW!! I'll just have to stay focused on that while I'm slaving away in the kitchen.

Did I mention I hate to cook? :goodvibes

:rotfl: Sex in a bowl! I love it. I should make it just so I can see my Grandma's face when she hears that name! :rotfl:
I can just hear her now,"Sex in a bowl has no place on a proper Thanksgiving dinner table." :rotfl2:

I'm cooking this year, for the first time in my own kitchen. I have prepared T-giving dinner before but at Mom's house not mine. Now that I live nearby, my parents, one of my brothers and his family and my sister are coming for dinner. I am just way too excited. We are having all of the favorites.....

Shrimp cocktail
Bacon Crescents
Cheese and crackers

Roast Turkey....we also do 2 small ones for more legs and wings!
Grandma's receipe stuffing....lots of thyme and butter!
Candied sweet potatoes
baked carrot casserole
fresh green beans
creamed pearl onions....Mom's favorite
home made cranberry sauce
buttered noodles.....my grandma was german and always noodles instead of mashed potatoes....now it is a tradition.

pumpkin pie
chocolate pie
apple pie
Blueberry pie
vanilla ice cream

Not very unique all in all, but totally tradition in our family. The menu never changes, just the hands that prepare it. It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without all of these foods and the fun and family that go along with it. I am SO looking forward to the holiday this year.

Linda

Best part is my mom does the cooking :cheer2:
I just help and clean up.
Big old stuffed turkey
homemade filling (no stove top or pepridge farms for us)
homemade gravy
Mashed potatoes
steamed carrots
white shoepeg corn
pillsbury dinner rolls and homemade loaf of bread
homemade cranberry sauce and cranberry relish
Heavenly ham
candied sweet potatoes

for dessert
funny cake
pumpkin pie
pecan pie

Entire menu, eaten in whatever order you like:
Turkey
Turkey Gravey
Ham
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes (Yams!)
Sausage
Dinner Rolls
Various types of stuffing
White and Red Wine

Many many other things that I know I'm forgetting, but my brain is fried right now.

You guys are making me hungry. This will be the first year since my grandmother died(5 years) I'm not sure what we are having.

Jenny your Bacon and swiss dip with Bread sounds Yummy. How do you make it. I'm thinking this and sex in a bowl and my hubby may be happy

Families are so different. No one at our gathering likes the legs so they ( I chop off the meat) end up in the turkey noodle soup I make on Sunday.
