Has anyone started planning what they are going to make/eat for Thanksgiving while staying on plan?

I am doing the cooking this year and am looking for some ideas!

Terry, I haven't even decided if I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year. Being oversea's all the american families band together and have a community Thanksgiving the Sunday before so I have to decide if I want two meals in the same week. At least at the community meal you don't tend to overeat because I never go back for seconds and I don't tend to take too much because others have to eat. If I do cook I will make the regular Thanksgiving fare and just eat it in moderation.

We will be at WDW/Universal this year so we will not over eat at the family get together or our own at home spread.

We have made ressies at the Royal Pacific which will have a buffet that has all the traditional food as well as seafood.

Ok...we are definitely cooking and eating. But we're toning things down a little. here's the plan so far:

CHICKEN and dressing (not a huge turkey this year!)
Corn
Mashed potatoes
Spiced Fruit (hot)
rolls
and a couple choices on desserts.

maybe more, but that's probably the core of the meal. You can definitely get way off track, but my feeling is that Thanksgiving, like any day, should be about portion control, not giving up everything! If I can just stick with one trip through, I'll be Ok!

Hi ya i can tell you what we are having.

Turkey (smoked) and cornbread dressing (made with chicken broth/onion/celery/diced eggs and broiled chicken pieces)
giblet gravy
mustard greens boiled in swanson's Italian chicken broth.
corn on the cob
rolls (the 1.5 grams ones that your brown i can't remember the brand but there higher end rolls) sprayed with parkay spray for me and dh butter off the slab for the kiddy's.
A graham cracker crusted jello chocolate pie with lite cool whip topping!!!

Nothing fancey nothing over board and not a bunch to make left overs with! We go to dad's for supper so i will send everything left over from my supper home with the nanny when she comes on friday and shop off my gain at the thanksgiving weekend sales! Sounds like a plan a? Have a great thanksgiving terry let us know what you come up with. Oh if you like green lima beans we buy the frozen ones and boil them in swanson's brand italian herb broth and they are terrific! They give your veggies great flavor with out the add fat!

We will be having Thanksgiving with the inlaws where they have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and Pumpkin Pie. DH and I have decided to just try not to go crazy and eat what we want in moderation and get right back on our plan on Friday. :) We want to stick with this way of eating for the rest of our lives and part of that for us is making allowances for special occassions, etc but getting right back on track the next day. So far we have done well doing it that way but I won't expect a big loss Thanksgiving week, if I can just maintain I'll be happy with that.

We are invited to SIL & BIL's house. But we don't eat until 6:30-7:00 PM. That is almost time for me to be in my jammies :D So I will be more concerned that I don't overeat during the day waiting to go there.

I will be walking 5 miles in the local Turkey Trot (DH runs it) so that keeps me busy in the morning.

I think I will take salad and a WW friendly dessert to the dinner. I do plan to count points that day!

I can't remember the last time my family has had Thanksgviving dinner together at home in a while. This has always typically been the one Holiday that we spend at home by ourselves because DH watches the Dallas Cowboy Game, and we prefer to be at home for the long weekend. The last few years we have either been at WDW over Thanksgiving, or DH has been in Kuwait. This year we decided to go to WDW a little earlier than Thanksgiving and will now be home. I am really excited.

We will have
Turkey
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce
pickles & olives
homemade bread
gravy (found a low fat recipe and will try it)
green bean casserole.
Candied yams
pumpkin pie

I will definately try to save fat and calories in cooking where I can. I will save my Flex Points all week for this meal, and I will enjoy it. I will watch my servings, but have some of everything. Hmm, is someone cooking something in the microwave or am I actualy smelling food! My mouth is watering thinking about it.

I really miss celebrating Thanksgiving with my in-laws. We don't celebrate it here in the UK. I hope that you all have a great time :sunny:

We decided this year to have the Thanksgiving meal the New Englanders were hoping the Native Americans were going to fix with them...Fisherman's Stew. Gobs of good for you seafood in a New Bedford Broth with a loaf of homemade chiabatta and a splendid bottle of Fume Blanc. That's it. Nothing Else. No nutted up, buttered up, breaded up, whipped up, been in the larder for years because we had better things to eat, dried out poultry. (I'm thinking National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation style here :p .) Not that I'm not a fan of the traditional dinner, it's just that with the holidays that seem to tumble end over end between now and Spring time, I just need to find other, equally satisfying, but better for us fare. I'm certain that sometime between now and then, we will find time for a turkey but it will most likely be barbequed for the specific purpose of making a winter's supply of turkey soup. We will be thankful for having the freedom to choose what we have for our Thanksgiving Day Feast, and I'm sure the Turkey will be thankfull too, at least for a while!;)

Keep the Faith!

I am not sure what we are having this year. It will probably be just me and dh but we usually make a big dinner anyway. WIth just 2 of us it makes it easier to make plan friendly items!!!! I got my new cooking light magazine today but have not had a chance to open it yet!!! I bet there are some great ideas in it though!!!!

OOOH! I love Cooking Light! I make 3-4 meals/week from that mag and my whole family loves it! They will undoubtably have something fantastic and WW friendly for you and DH! The thing I love most about CL is that they usually have wine suggestions! :smooth: Having a glass of wine with (or after) a meal, always gives it a bit more of an indugent feel. And with CL, one usually saves enough calories, to make a glass perfectly legal! Have fun with whatever you decide to make!

All your menus sound so good!! We usually go to my MIL's for Thanksgiving each year, but this year we will be at Disney instead! :)

I am making Thanksgiving Dinner for the very first time this year for my Parents and DH's Dad. Here is our menu:

Turkey
Sausage Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Peas
Greenbean Casserole
Cranberries
Crossiants
Pumpkin Pie
Chocolate Pie
Cherry Pie

It is basically a carbfest. And I plan on enjoying it but not over doing it. I'll send a lot of leftovers home with people and I will enjoy one slice of Pumpkin Pie with whip cream. Then on Friday it will be Turkey Sandwiches on low carb bread for lunch, which means I'll be back on the plan.
