Thanksgiving Dinner Menu

There will be 5 or 6 of us this year (it's our family's bubble) and we're having the usual suspects: turkey/mashed potatoes/stuffing/gravy/rolls/cranberry sauce. I kinda tried to persuade DW not to spend the whole day cooking and that we should do something simpler like lasagna or even order some pizza. She would have none of it! I think she wants to have DGDs remember Thanksgiving dinners with us, but they are here for a few hours 5 days a week, we're together a lot and eating a meal together isn't unusual. At least I can look forward to the turkey casserole we make with the leftovers:)

I'm the "adopted" mom for many of my kids adult friends (most of them have family on the East Coast and can't travel home) So over the years our house has become a collective of many people. This year we'll have a small group, but we my DH makes a smoked turkey, my "adopted" kids bring lasagna, several sides, treats. It's always an evolving feast.

That sounds very nice!

I’m really impressed with Wegmans (our favorite grocery store) and what they have available for thanksgiving. I found a half turkey breast, brined and ready to cook right in the bag. I also got Bob Evans mashed potatoes. Perfect sized serving for the 4 of us. We LOVE Stove Top stuffing, and I’ll defrost some of the fresh corn off the cob that I froze during its peak in the summer. Add some brown and serve rolls and we’re good to go!
Those Bob Evans mashed potatoes are freakin awesome! Just saying.

I buy them a lot because it's just me and I divide it up to go with my frozen pork chops for my freezer lunches.

Well, it's seeming like it's going to just be the two of us this year, sooo....

Chips and dips!
Gourmet grilled cheeses and fries!
Pizza!
Portillos chocolate cake!
Limoncello!
Wine!

Limoncello and Wine....if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic....I'd come to your house!

We can't celebrate at all with our families. Our parents are elderly and 2 out of the four are ill. My sister and niece are immunocompromised, so it's just going to be the two of us and our three dogs. I've really been cooking a lot more since all of this, because I have the time. I asked my husband if he wanted the full turkey deal, but passed...he just wants my macaroni and cheese....that's it. I use a high quality rigatoni (the ridges hold the cheese)....four different cheeses in my cheese sauce, Italian breadcrumbs. Might do some snacks throughout the day. Easy peasy.

We usually get together will my adult children and their respective in laws. This year however, since we work in a high risk environment its just the two of us
so we will have a stuffed mushroom app
smoked turkey breast
sweet potato casserole
green bean casserole
stuffing /gravy
rolls
triple berry pie
everything scaled down for the two of us-turkey leftovers will get used in our ultimate comfort food enchilada casserole. The day after I will drop off a pecan pie and my mothers cranberry sauce to my older son and his wife.

We spent last Thanksgiving at WDW. AKL Kidani, Savanna View with my parents and my brother. Dinner at Boma. We made the decision while we were there that it was going to become our tradition because it was wonderful. This year, my parents (older and not in great health) won’t travel until a vaccine is widely available, so back to a smaller traditional turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans and tomatoes and pumpkin pie meal. It will be my parents, DH, DS and me. Older DS usually spends Thanksgiving running all over the place to see his dad’s family, so we’ll try to eat early and have my parents out of the house before he comes home with all of the germs. On Fri, DH’s parents will cook everything (they don’t like other people’s cooking 😂) and take food to DH’s brother and family and to us. Then they’ll go home and we’ll have a zoom call to “eat together”

When we are at Disney for Thanksgiving that is where we have dinner no matter where we stay it is so good. Our ADR is usually around 4 something before it gets too crowded.

a “mocktail” of ginger ale and cranberry juice
I know it's not the same but have you had Cranberry Ginger Ale? I can't wait until it comes out each season. I'm not much of a soda drinker but I drink this stuff like crazy!

I love making Thanksgiving dinner every year! We have the usual menu:

Turkey
Homemade dressing
Fancy mashed potatoes
Green bean casserole
Yams with marshmallows
Corn
Canned Cranberry Sauce (the stuff that retains the shape of the can lol)

Pumpkin pie
Cookie cake

I hadn't given much thought to appetizers. I think I will make spinach dip and deviled eggs.

We are a family of 4, 2 of whom won't eat any traditional Thanksgiving food. This is what I'm making

Turkey (breast only)
Stuffing
Gravy
Homemade cranberry sauce
French green beans
Annie's box mac and cheese (for son #1)
Roasted chicken breast with skin--he hates turkey and Trader Joe's frozen mashed potatoes--he won't eat homemade (for son #2)
Hawaiian Rolls
Caramel apple cheesecake bars
Brownies

Just going to be my parents and myself. Skipping the normal large family get together. My Mom and I will be cooking turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes/gravy, red cabbage, and asparagus. And then pumpkin pie for dessert. Probably cheese and crackers as the appetizer. Turkey is my Dad's favorite food, so even when we go to my cousin's house, we usually make one on that Friday or Saturday (Black Friday turkeys marked down to like $5-8), so really just moving up our cooking a day.

Yes, I buy it every now and then, but it doesn’t have as much flavor to me as mixing the actual juice with the ginger ale. I do like it though.

Just the 2 of us

Will start with shrimp cocktail and oyster on the half shell

Boneless skin on turkey breast
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Cranberry sauce
Mashed turnip
Green beans
Rolls and butter 🧈

Pumpkin pie for dessert with whipped cream

Turkey
ham
stuffing
gravy
mashed potatoes
rutabaga
corn
rolls
pumpkin pie with whipped cream

Fixing a dinner according to our turkey size for at least 15- 20 people.........we're going to have tons of yummy leftovers! :goodvibes

Just the three of us, so the menu will be smaller than usual. One notable item missing is going to be the dressing. My two guys don't like dressing/stuffing of any sort, so I won't make it just for me. Ditto for mashed potatoes.

The menu:
Turkey breast
Carver ham
Green chili corn casserole
Sweet potato casserole
Roasted Asparagus
Yeast rolls
Gravy
Pumpkin pie
Chocolate pie
Oatmeal-raisin-pecan cookies

We will be doing traditional Thanksgiving for our family of 14.

Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Corn/green beans
Sweet Potato Casserole
Mac & Cheese
Deviled Eggs
Cranberry
Fresh Bread
Pumpkin Pie
Homemade Ice Cream
Pistachio cream dessert

I confess that I am no good at making mashed potatoes. The last several years I have been buying either the Bob Evans ones or another comparable brand and have been serving those on Thanksgiving. I usually need about 6 supermarket containers of them but this year I'll probably just need 2 or 3. I doctor them up a bit with milk, black pepper and either sour cream or butter. People always say how good they are and I tell them...supermarket mashed potatoes!! Saves me a ton of time on Thanksgiving.

Also, as with California and I am sure many other states.....New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has instituted mandates on how many people can be at your house on Thanksgiving. Only 10 people are allowed. While we will be in compliance, the memes of him out there are just cracking me up and keeping me sane through all of this.

Thanksgiving is tricky for my family. My 20 something kids do not like Thanksgiving food. SMH. DH hates traveling that weekend, and after years of being on the road when the kids are little, we’ve stayed home the last several years. I used to spend all day cooking a gourmet turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Since Tgiving is usually only the 4 of us (me, DH, DS23, DD21), it’s not worth doing all that cooking when my kids don’t even like the food. So we’ve gone out for fancy Thanksgiving buffets the last several years because then everyone is happy.

This year buffets are obviously out. Instead we looked at all the take out options at various restaurants and grocery stores and finally settled on.....Cracker Barrel. I ordered the Hot and Ready meal today for pick up on Tgiving day: turkey, stuffing, sugar cured ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, mac & cheese, cranberry relish, country green beans, rolls, chocolate pecan pie. We’ll add a couple pieces of fried chicken (for DS), a Mrs. Smith’s pumpkin pie, ice cream and whipped cream. Done!

What are you having/making/ordering for Thanksgiving dinner?

You have 20 something kids? That’s got to be some sort of record.
