Thanksgiving Dinner Menu

While our little dinner is going on we are also having a zoom meet with friends we usually do holidays with. We are doing a zoom scavenger hunt and a little birdie just told me a package is being delivered to doorsteps with ingredients for a gingerbread house contest.

That sounds like a fun idea! I may steal that as a idea to send to my niece!

Ugh. A bone of contention.

I thought we had agreed we weren't getting together so I had started planning a non-traditional thanksgiving meal (I don't like Thanksgiving food either, and I don't think my kids are fans either. My husband likes it but said he was fine doing something else.) I was planning steak, baked potatoes, a good salad, and homemade crusty bread. In my house, I think that's everyone's favorite meal and we were all looking forward to it.

However, MIL has decided that we should all make our normal thanksgiving meal (MIL usually hosts and makes most of it, but SIL and I provide things, too) Then we'll divide it up into portions for each family, meet briefly "in the middle" to exchange food, then take it back to our own houses to reheat. So now, I'm getting not only a meal I don't like... but a REHEATED one. (I'm not a fan of leftovers either.) I'm not thrilled... but this is a holiday that we always spend with my husband's family so I don't want to make waves. So, I guess we're doing the reheated traditional meal Thursday (gag) and we're going to do the steak dinner on Friday. Sigh.
Haven't read the whole thread, but I just wanted to comment... since you have to reheat it anyway, why not make your sides, split them with the family and put your food in the fridge for the next day. Enjoy the Thanksgiving meal you planned and be thankful you have something left over for Black Friday's dinner.... or lunch. And you don't have to tell anyone about it.

I’m hosting just my mom and sister. It’s the usual crowd:
Turkey
Stuffing (cooked outside of the bird)
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Green bean casserole
Corn
A family jello dish
Hawaii rolls
My sister is in charge of bringing a pie.

I’m also setting out before the food ranch oysters crackers, a cheese ball and summer sausage and cheese.
I love cooking so it’s a good excuse.

We usually host my parents & my sister’s family & sometimes my mother-in-law, but, this year, it’ll just be the 5 of us.

However, everyone still wants a traditional Thanksgiving dinner w/ everyone’s favorite sides. So, our menu -

Roasted Turkey
Dressing
Sweet Potato Casserole - the one w/ the pecan & brown sugar topping
Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
Corn Soufflé
Green Beans w/ Bacon & Onion
Roasted Butternut Squash & Apples
Cranberry Sauce
Yeast Rolls

And, for dessert -

Sweet Potato Pie
Pumpkin Cheesecake
Pecan Pie
Apple Blondies
Pumpkin Spice Cookies

managed to score a 9 pound turkey breast so the kids and i are having:

Turkey breast
garlic loaded mashed potatoes, we'll have bacon bits and cheese to put on top
steamed broccoli
roasted carrots
stove top stuffing (because I'm too lazy to make it from scratch even though it tastes better)
cranberry jello salad
pumpkin pie (I am taking the time to make it from scratch)
and I bought all the stuff for ice cream sundaes

We are going to eat all day long and gain 5 pounds each! Thanksgiving is a bit sad this year because we won't be seeing family. Oh, we are having Mickey waffles for breakfast while we watch the parade, if there is a parade this year.

I don't really like Thanksgiving food (or the prep), plus it's usually just DH and myself. This year, we're having my stepdaughter and granddaughter over for dinner on Wednesday - we'll probably do a baked pasta or something. Or the pizza that DGD suggested lol
I did find an apple crisp recipe that uses Bailey's Apple Pie, so I'll be making that. And probably going back to Total Wine if the bottle I bought today doesn't make it that far... :scratchin

I hate turkey.
I’m flipping through traditional Greek recipes.
But there will be Stove Top.

Stove Top is the bomb. Every time I make it I wonder why I don’t do it all year. So easy and SO delicious!

That is a good idea, however, I'm not sure I will use it. The plans are still sketchy but MIL mentioned something about zooming while we eat. If we do that, she would know. Even if we don't zoom *while* we eat (and I hope we don't), I could totally see her asking everyone what they put on their plates ("Did you try any of the ___?") I think her feelings would be hurt if we didn't eat what she prepared and I don't want anybody to have to lie.

Especially if we're going to eat it at some point, we'll just do it on Thursday when it's expected. (I just don't enjoy the meal, and thought I saw my way out of it. I won't want it on Friday either.) It will be fine. We'll do her meal on Thursday and move mine till Friday. I will just enjoy Friday's meal a lot more!

Im so glad you posted what is going on your board. I’ve always wanted to make one but didn’t know what to put on it.

It’s just the 3 of us this year so we are just having:

ham
Stuffing
Funeral potatoes
Asparagus
Rolls

I’m either making German chocolate pie or pumpkin pie. I haven’t decided yet.

For the last few Thanksgivings, it mostly been DH & I, but we are both huge lovers of traditional meals, so we've always had turkey and the trimmings. DH always smokes our turkeys and they are out of this world juicy good. We'll have sides of -
Dressing
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Green bean casserole
Sweet potato casserole
Fresh cranberry relish
stuffed celery
Rolls
Traditional pies - pumpkin, mince meat, and a cherry or apple, or maybe this year I'll also make a pumpkin roll.

This year our son and g'dau. will join us and we'll all have lots of left overs which we love.
Hope all have a wonderful day and stay safe.

This year it will be just the 8 of us who have been in our “bubble”, spreading out, instead of the usual 18+....
Our menu:
Deviled eggs
Fried turkey
Yukon Gold/Sweet Potato casserole
Mac and Cheese
Oven Roasted Green Beans
Kale, Citrus, Goat Cheese Salad
Cranberry Sauce
Rolls
Pumpkin Cheesecake
