This thanksgiving my DH and myself have decided to have dinner by ourselves. Just the 2 of us. I was thrilled! I was thinking about going all out. Having candles and maybe wine. Just don't think I want to cook a turkey for just the 2 of us. Any ideas on what else to cook that would be special?

You could do a small turkey, and use the leftovers for sandwiches and such and make some bacon wrapped scallops or lobster with it.

You could just get a turkey breast! Or if you want to be different, how about filet mignon with bernaise sauce. mmmmmm

You could make a small turkey or roast a chicken. There are also cornish hens, standing rib roasts or get something fancy from the butcher's case.

Sometimes you can even order something fancy to be made up at your local store from the butchers case. Ours has stuffed this & that, filet mignons and other fancy fair.

This thread is making me hungry.

DH and I have done this several times. I do a brined turkey breast. It's so good and just enough leftovers.

If DH & I were having a special meal, we'd opt for crab or lobster....or maybe a good steak marinated like they do at Boma. :teeth:

Cornish hens can be very nice if you want to stick with poultry. I don't know if you can get it where you are, but we can get smoked turkeys, turkey parts & chicken parts. You know people automatically say "turkey breast" if you don't want a lot, but both of my sisters perfer dark meat. They often get turkey thighs and/or legs to roast.

It's always just the 2 of us for Thanksgiving. I usually do a small ham and come up with some sort of homemade glaze for it. I'm just not a huge poultry fan & when I do eat it, it has to be dark meat.

Definitely a turkey breast! We had our first thanksgiving alone last year and I made a 6 pounder with all the trimmings. The leftovers were yummy samiches the next day!

But if you didn't want to go through the trouble of that, check out 30 Minute Meals on foodtv.com. Rachel Ray just did two episodes on turkey cutlets with gravy and stuffing. I was apprehensive at first, but it looks really good and cooks in 10 minutes or less!

ok I am going to try to spell this!!

I would cook a Chateau breio(sp)

I am going to cook a turkey and this...I do not eat it, but it is very $$ and just melts apart!! I have cooked them several times before
your local butcher should know!

I usally stick small slices of garlic and some cracker pepper and onion.....it looks to die for!

Those turkey breasts are really good! I think they're sometimes called Hotel cut. At least you can still get some pan drippings for the gravy.

If it was just DH and I I think we'd go out for a nice dinner and movie.

Oh, I'm so jealous! Rachel Ray made turkey breasts on her 60 minute version of Thanksgiving. She lifted the skin up and sort of coated/stuffed them with fresh herbs processed with a little olive oil, basted them with butter and still had enough drippings for gravy....looked awesome! Have a relaxing quiet day...oh how nice, did I say I was jealous, LOL!
