First, let me say I had a great time on marathon weekend! It was great to see all the Wish team members. The gathering at POP was awesome.
Kareneast - I LOVE the WISH bag.
That was so nice of you!
Congratulations to everyone who participated!
Thanks to all the WISHERs who were scream teaming for us. The support was fantastic. It really boosts the spirit when you see the shirts, hear the cowbells and see the people cheering for you. Between all of you and my friends from work, it gave me a boost when I needed it. Many thanks!
Unfortunately, my quest for another Goofy fell short. I got swept in the full at mile 17.
I was bummed and upset, initially, but I was also realistic in that I know I didn't get in as much training as I would have liked. So, I accepted my fate. Until I saw the Mickey & Goofy medals. Boy did I have a case of medal envy! Those medals are cool!
As much as I wanted those medals, I could not get my body to move any faster. I don't know if the 1/2 took it out of me or what, but I didn't feel energetic from the start of the marathon. By mile 5 I was questioning myself. My legs felt tired, but I tried to press on. I ended up walking most of the race (Wendy, I don't know how you do it!). I thought I was feeling better by the TTC. But from the time I left MK, till I got to AK I lost time every mile. My legs were hurting (shin splints again) and I felt a few blisters (not as bad as last year). The bike patrol was letting us know if we were ahead or behind pace. As we turned the corner approaching the 16 mile mark, they were hollering we had 30 seconds to cross the mat. I mustered up whatever energy was left and made it with about 10 seconds to spare. By mile 17 I was 2 minutes behind. That was it. I was done. I hobbled to a bus and got back to soak my legs in ice water (what fun
).
I think I'm going to pass on fulls for awhile. Until I can lose some pounds and build some more endurance, I'll stick to the 1/2's. It's less wear and tear on my legs (which are still sore). I'm also thinking of taking a Disney break. I think I put too much pressure on myself to get the Goofy and right now I can't commit to that type of training. So maybe I'll try something else next year or just come down to scream team.
Sorry I rambled.
Again, congrats & thanks to all!
