Thank you Disboards. DVC became even more worth having.

Occasionally, friends and family will ask my wife and me about the value of DVC and if it’s worth it. I always say the same thing: “It depends on how much you love and want to travel to Disney yearly.” People often say, don’t you tire of going to Disney on vacation? And for me, that would be a no, but honestly, that was not the same for my kids as they got older or my wife. Thank you to disboards for the rental thread.

I have had the luxury of renting out years of my points to travel all over. We traveled to Paris and Rome, Hawaii (not Aulani), and just general vacation spots during the years. Next year, I'm finally going on a Disney cruise, renting out points. So, DVC has been totally worth it for me. However, I didn’t realize how much until this year.

My son and his girlfriend mentioned their plans to get married in 2027 to us. Yeah, that’s years away, but I understand why kids may need to plan years now for a wedding. Holy crap, the price. Again, thank you, DVC.

I started renting out my points, and as a wedding gift to them, we will be able to pay for their wedding simply by renting out my points for a couple of years, 3 to be exact, after paying the dues as well.

So, in the future, when a friend or someone asks, "Was DVC worth it?" It will be a very happy Hell Yes!!

We plan to see more of the real world and will rent out our points ro cover the cost as well. Our most recent stays at WDW have not been great and even after a 2 year hiatus between the last two I can't say that we have any desire to go again any time soon. It's not just the changes at WDW that influenced our decision although they are a factor. It's more because there's a great big world out there and our resale contracts can't be used any other way than at domestic Disney DVC resorts.

That doesn't mean that we will never return to WDW. It just won't be any time too soon. Meanwhile my sister and her family are going to get to enjoy Christmas time at WDW this year.

It always required planning for a wedding of your dreams unless you were getting married in the backyard/state park.Or going to city hall (that’s what I did and saved the $$$ to buy a house) 😉.

Still, how much money do you net after the initial cost, possible taxes and maintenance fees are factored in? I know it’s something based on the recent threads about commercial rentals but is it a return in excess of 10%?
Just wondering if it’s a good fit on this end. TIA!

This is not something I would recommend to people using their points. This was just an added benefit we could do with the amount of points we have. My points were purchased back in 2001 and paid off long long ago. Dues are always lower than rental costs. Just a bit of work, but I like helping people booking their Disney vacations.

Also, you save money by not going to Disney, I'm sure the average trip not included DVC is well over $5k for most families.

So true! Our most recent trip included the dining plan (more for convenience and easy accounting), tickets, car rental, Instacart orders, airfare, Ubers, souvenirs and tips. Several thousand $ and we only had an okay time which is why we are going to travel elsewhere for a bit and then maybe do a Disney cruise when the kids are a bit older.
