They should just eliminate the conferences and put all of the top team in the Elite division.

Believe it or not they tried to separate the top teams into an elite division with the 1a, 1aa split, now FBS, FCS. But it didn't work, only served to strengthen conferences and 1aa team after 1aa team has gone 1a. The only team I know of to move down recently is Idaho.

Interesting fate… OU was the first home team to lose a first-round game, to Bama.

Bama was the first team to lose a quarterfinal game to a team that had a first round bye, IU.

Two years of playoffs this way and bye teams are 1-7

8 games isn't enough to be definitive, but watching those 8 games, the bye team came out with a lot of rust on several occasions. So there is something to it.

Somebody done pissed the football gods off. Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia all lost within 24 hours. That'd be akin to Duke, N. Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas all losing in the Sweet 16. So crazy. What I don't understand, and there may not be an explanation, but teams that got byes are now 1-7 in the second round of the playoffs. That's just crazy to me.

I did see something almost as improbable. The year Arizona won, they knocked off Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky. All 3 were #1 seeds. Duke was in Arizona's regional as the 2 but fell in the sweet 16 to Providence college who Arizona beat in the regional finals.

The conferences need to be eliminated. Increasing revenue should be the goal. Not maintaining traditions.

Most of the experts picked Alabama to win.

I heard a few “experts” pick Alabama but that’s about it. Did Rece Davis pick them -probably not? I ask because he’s a Bama grad. I’m an Alabama fan and would have been shocked if they had beaten Indiana -they’ve been a much more physical team all year. Bama deserved to be in the Top 12, but this team was not the best they’ve had by far(probably better than last years team). DeBoer has a lot to prove to most Alabama fans -and obviously has a tough act to follow.

ACC will never let anyone hear the end of "maybe you get 1 team in, but maybe not"...I'd expect 2 teams in from the ACC for the CFP for the next 5 years.

I honestly didn't care about the playoffs til it looked like they were gonna skip a major conference to include other conference also-rans...but now I'm all in for Miami.

You forget, Unlike SEC fans, my entire self-esteem and mental health isn't determined by what 17-22 year old kids do on any given Saturday. FIRE THAT COACH, HE AINT NO GOOD!!! THOSE REFS COST US, TURNED THE ENTIRE GAME AGAINST US. THE BIASED MEDIA IS GOING TO HAVE A FIELD DAY.... OLE MISS WAS THE BETTER TEAM LASTNIGHT!!! Conference Champ should be automatic.
And then Miami obviously deserved their spot.

And if your conference wins this year, well, for next year, the SEC always used to claim that meant they needed extra spots b/c they were the best, so why shouldn't the ACC do the same?

After this year, I would. I'd never let folks forget my conference's team made it to the last 2, whether or not they eventually win. And they took down every titan doing it...
