I am so proud to be an American this morning.

My fellow countrymen rejected the divisive, mean-spirited, distorted campaigns waged this year.

Hopefully, seeing the mass rejection of this type of campaign, we can look forward to more truthful and honest discussion of real issues, rather than making up distorted images of the opponent to run against.

Let us come together - present our ideas - express our opinions - explain our logic - work together for the common good - reject the stereotypes - shun the haters - respect our opponents - regain the respect of our countrymen.

I am very proud to be an American!

It's a beautiful day and we have the best choice in Congress, the House, the Senate and the WHITE HOUSE.

Let's not forget the Supreme Court may have an appointment because of Chief Justice Reinquirst's health.

I am embarassed to be American today. Go ahead and say what you will, but it's true, and I've never said that before.

I really can't believe this happened. People really did vote out of fear. Fear of terrorism (that Bush only has worsened), and oh my, the fear that gay people can marry. Well thank God you stopped that. That's what is really important in the world. And let's not ever make any progress in science...

At least with the number of younger voters up and coming, the "moral majority's" time will be ending. Wait and see...

Have a nice day!!! (go ahead and call me anti-american, I am anti-Bush, so be it:) )

I did not vote out of fear of terrorism..give people more credit then that...maybe alot of us just can't stand Kerry!

What happened to freedom of speech? Is this not something that people in this country are proud of? People spoke yesterday, wether it was for Republicans or Democrats. Why bash the other side just because the one you supported didn't win?

err,umm, i think i was speaking freely!!:D

Yes you were babar, but you were also clearly criticising the ones that spoke clearly yesterday voting for Republicans just because you are an anti-Bush person.

Certainly you don't think it is just a one way bashing do you? These threads have gotten so nasty with all the bashing from both sides. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Now that American has voted I hope everyone can live by their decisions. He has already so brought us down in 4 years that I can't wait to see what he can do in 8.

By the way, just for fun, since Bush is so for this war, why isn't either of his of age daughters joining the service and fighting for what is "right"? I mean, a man of his power should be able to convince his daughters what is right and what is wrong, shouldn't he? Oh that's right that is just for the little people, his daughters/his family is above and beyond standing up and dying for what is "right".

I am disappointed that Mr. Bush will, apparently, be spending four more years in the White House, and I am disappointed that Florida helped him get there.

I am, however, proud that so many Americans DID go to the polls to make their voices heard and their votes count -- voting was being done in record numbers across the country! I'm also very pleased that I don't have to watch any more nasty political ads (from either side). :p

The election did not give Mr. Bush the decisive landslide of support that I'm sure he was hoping for, and I'm sure he realizes that he and his administration will be under more scrutiny now than they were during their first term. He now has to make good on everything he promised.

I voted for Bush and it had nothing to do with fear of gays or terrorism. In fact, I'm all for gay marriage, however, it was not on the ballot in my state since it is already legal here.

I'm not going to call you anti-American, however, I was all set to congratulate Kerry & his supporters if he won and get behind him. I was hoping Kerry supporters would do the same if Bush wins. We're all in this together, like it or not.

And ... well ... that's babar's right as an American, is it not? You can say he was rude or a poor loser or anti-Bush or whatever, but he's free to criticize whoever he wants -- Republicans, Democrats or anyone in between. Freedom of speech doesn't mean that everything you say has to be popular, polite or even socially acceptable. Clear criticism is patriotic too.

I'm sorry, but I can't congratulate a Bush win, or support him. I've seen what he has done in the past 4 years and don't like it. I hate it, in fact. I will not "get behind" him.

I am disappointed in the people of this country. Those are my feelings, and I can't change that.

The only bright side is the voter turn-out, and the next election should be very exciting.

**i'm a she by the way, but thanks!! many of my "he" friends feel the same!!:)

Do you REALLY think so? He can't run again in 2008, nor will his VP. What does he have to lose by lying again? Nothing.......

::yes:: Well said. 60% turnout is incredible!

Excuse me. I voted for Bush and it was not out of fear of terrorism, or fear of gays marrying. How belittling, obnoxious, and presumptive of you. I voted for Bush because out of the two cadidates he has a better grip on the Constitution and what the Legislative branch can and cannot do - something that is very important to me. I also voted for him because I feel that the Supreme Court is ready for a change and I want to see the President making the nominations - and no, I don't think Roe v. Wade is in danger, nor is it the only thing that matters. I voted for him because whether or not I agree with him, I know where he stands and I certainly cannot say the same for Kerry. I voted for Bush because I think that Kerry picked a reprehensible running mate and having the TLA living in the Naval Observatory is distressing to me. The list goes on and on and on. The bottom line is, it looks like President has won a second term. Get over it.

Erin :D

Please try not to be so sensitive, was I accusing you directly? That is the way the majority voted, and those are most of the reasons that people who voted for Bush voted the way they did.
Sorry, get over it.
:p

If you will visit FactCheck.org, an unbiased site funded by the Annenberg Foundation and operated by the University of Pennsylvannia, you will see that Kerry's campaign didn't have a monopoly on distortion.

If there had been a mass rejection of dirty politics, then we would be looking forward to the inauguration of Ralph Nader or the Libertarian candidate in January.

Unfortunately, "truthful and honest discussion of real issues" doesn't win as many elections as "making up distorted images of the opponent". As long as this is true, both sides will continue to misrepresent the records and positions of their opponents.

Thank you, I totally agree. Regardless of the platform of either party, I am glad the divisive, mean-spirited, distorted campaign waged this year by democrats was rejected. I support many democrat issues. But, between us republicans, the campaign approach was despicable. I'm glad it wasn't successful. Let us come together and God Bless the Unites States of America.

More Americans voted yesterday than ever before. There was record turnout in most states. We have just given yet another example to the world why we are the greatest nation on this earth. We argue and wage nasty campaigns but it is done without violence. We then head to the polls and vote. After the vote, most of us come together to do what we feel needs to be done to better ourselves and our country. And we control our destiny. And for that you're embarassed? Simply amazing.

Richard

I'd also like to give a big "shout out" to The Guardian of London, UK for their efforts in meddling with Clark County, OH. They went for Gore in 2000 but swung to Bush yesterday! Thanks!!!
