Thailand will not place armed guards on US-bound flights by its national carrier, Thai Airways, despite Washington's order to foreign airlines, Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said on Tuesday.

The US Department of Homeland Security said on Monday it was ordering foreign airlines to place guards on some flights to and from US cities to thwart attacks.

"We don't need to go that far since we always conduct proper checks from our end and our planes stop at one destination," Thaksin told reporters.

Thai Airways operates a daily direct flight to Los Angeles and had not placed any armed guards on its international flights, an airline official said on Tuesday.

Well, then I guess people from Thailand will have to figure out another way to get here if they want to come, won't they?

Then that airline will be cut off from landing in this country. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I guess if your going to Thailand don't use Thai Airways or you might not get back home Dan, hows that :)

jj........ :p

It's a shame for Thailanders who want to visit the US or for their family members here who would like to go to Thailand for a visit. But we have to do what we think is right in order to protect our country. Just like those countries that have banned imports of US and Canadian beef.

What I think stinks is that they announced this to the public. They could have just privately told Homeland Security that they weren't going to do it. Now it's out on the internet and such that Thai Airways will not ever have guards on its flights.

So I am sure that they will become a ripe target to hijack since Al Quaida knows there won't be armed guards on those flights. And LA is one of the cities mentioned as a place terrorists want to hit.

I am glad they made the announcement public. Now Americans will have the knowledge to make an informed decision on whether to use Thai Airways or not.

Easy way to stop them from using Thai Airways - don't allow them landing privileges in US.

Thai Airways is no more or less safe because of the announcement -- for Americans or anyone else.

Don't let it upset you, and jj is just doing a little end of year

.

If that airline does not comply, it will not be allowed to fly here. If it is not, and it were hijacked with US direction, I am sure it would be destroyed in the air before it came close to our shores.

I never said it was more or less safe but at least people now have this information available.

I would rather be informed and make an educated decision than not know.

I'm not Dan, but here:
Under the new flight restrictions put in place Monday to prevent a possible Al Qaeda attack, foreign airlines may be denied access to American airspace if they refuse to place armed marshals on flights. The mandate is effective immediately.

"Any sovereign government retains the right to revoke the privilege of flying to and from a country or even over their airspace," Ridge said in announcing the mandate on Monday. "So ultimately a denial of access is the leverage that you have."

But what is your point jj? come on out and say what you really want to. By the way, I find it highly amusing that you have an American flag in your signature.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why does JJ "need a point" and "come right out and say" something? All he did was post an interesting article about Thai Air....do you think he has stock options in Thai Air or something????

Thanks rrsafety maybe as you said
Thai Air travelers make a switch in Japan to complete the flight to the US

Interesting thought -- i wonder would they change their mind if that happened.

i find it interesting about the american flag/sept 11 thing in the signature too...why is it there if u want rights for terrorists and all of that? as family of a victim i don't think that the signature is appropriate for other things u have said in other threads...

if thai air doesn't want to comply that's fine...they just should be banned from all american airspace immediately...if they want to condone what has happened in the past two years then they should have nothing to do with america...

Heather sorry you feel that way and sorry for your loss - All i want is for justice to be done - I've said all along try them and if found guilty let the full measure of the law take place.

As one who has lived with Terrorism for 30yrs - i want all terrorists brought to justice.
