Many Europeans think Americans are:

- Stupid about the world beyond the US

- Ignorant of world history

- Money obsessed

- Dangerously patriotic

- Unilateral

- Uncaring about the needy in the US and elsewhere

- and don't forget about "Fat" too

So it is rather discouraging when people who have no knowledge of the terrorism in Ireland post on this board that Ireland's kind of terrorism DOESN'T count but terrorism against Americans DOES count. That kind of ignorance only feeds into a Europeans ill-informed view of us.

Happy to say, however, in general, the Europeans are totally wrong about Americans.

Not only that, there are few things more ignorant on the planet than a member of the European intelligensia talking about "America". You quickly realize after just a few paragraphs that they have NO IDEA what they are talking about even as they prattle on about the USA's lack of understanding." Its actually quite funny...

One thing i will say if you keep up your attitudes you will indeed has Terrorism with you for 10-20 or even 30yrs

Now there is one stupid statement, terrorism as a result of attitudes, is that what happened to you? and you still haven't changed your attitude, your terrorism is still going on....

This is how to change peoples attitudes about the U.S

Instead of advising us how to change attitudes about the US, why don't you practice what you preach in your own country?

As one who has lived with Terrorism for 30yrs - i want all terrorists brought to justice.

Walk in the shoes of a terrorism victim, they will all tell you no amount of justice fits the crime.
Now it's time for prevention, if you don't like our measures, stay in your own country.

rrsafety sorry maybe i didn't word it well.

What i mean is the U.S and U.K are getting attacked in many ways -- as you say some just want to kill westerns but many others don't. But if your country and mine don't help the Moderates things are only going to get worst. Westerns are demonised ( were all bad in some eyes ) but when people like in Iran see your fellow country men and mine trying to help - i'm sure they must say ( hold on a minute all that stuff we here about westerns must be wrong) - and if that helps just one person speak up then it must be a good thing.

One only has to look at Pakistan - President Pervez Musharraf this is a man who helped the West. And for that he's had 2 failed assassination attempts. Militants want nothing more than to spread their lies round the world. We can fight them by other means - we can change minds !!!!

And how did you get to that conclusion? Did you do some kind of survey?

Well kudos to you. What a big person you are. A person's religious affiliation is of no matter. It's just something that people are hiding behind, anyway. DH's cousin got an earful from me when we passed a house going into town and he said, "they are protestants but they are nice people." Who cares what they are????

JJ,

I basically agree. We must work hard to win the hearts and minds of the "moderates" while at the same time tracking down the bad guys.

Well, looks like we solved THAT problem, eh?

BTW, I really like the post from the guy earlier who wrote about me saying he remembered "some other clown from Boston who had a REAL attitude problem".

Who the heck is that poster, some out-of-work Hollywood screenwriter from the 1940's? .... "We don't like your kind around here, see? Yeah, I remember a guy who had an attitude alot like you, see? He ain't around here no more, you understand? He had an accident, see? A real 'accidental' accident." Let's here it for yucky melodrama...!

Well, when you read a statement like this;
If you are talking about the unrest in Ireland, well....that is YOUR country fighting amoung itself. You are not talking about a force outside of your countries boundaries, attacking you for some evil that they think America is. There is a huge difference between an unexpected, unwarranted attack and civil unrest between your countries citizens

And you ( the American ) answers like this;

So it is rather discouraging when people who have no knowledge of the terrorism in Ireland post on this board that Ireland's kind of terrorism DOESN'T count but terrorism against Americans DOES count.

what can you honestly expect? There's a serious lack of comprehension there, isn't there? The statement doesn't say anywhere that terrorism in Ireland doesn't count, it simply states a difference between civil attacks among citizens of the same country as opposed to citizens of other countries attacking the US.

Thank God not all Americans are like that.

Okie Dokie kids.. I think this thread has seen enough. If you don't like the views of one person, either respond respectfully (for example: not referring to them as an idiot or clown) or how about the always popular IGNORE feature so you don't have to read their posts??

If you want to take this up on the debate board you are more than welcome... but for now I think we can all agree this has outgrown it's Community board life.

Thanks!

Sorry...don't know how to quote...you'll have to settle on copying and pasting!! :p

I sincerely doubt that YOU do not know how the poster is and to who he is referring. Didn't your mother ever teach you manners? It is not nice to call people names! :mad:

PLEASE moderators....please close this before it gets any uglier. That is what 2 posters on this thread want. Please.....:(

Well, actually you are wrong, so I will help you.

JJ was talking about terrorism and a poster asked if he was talking about the "unrest" in Ireland.

Now, when you take the bombing in Omagh for instance (and I apologize for saying it killed 29 people, it actually killed, I believe 31 people, depending on how you count the mother who was seven months pregnant with twins when she was blown up while shopping) to say that the deliberate targetting of civilians for murder doesn't about to "terrorism" but is merely "unrest" then I will make the charge that the person who posted the message is marginalizing those people's deaths by saying that those deaths don't COUNT in the tally of terrorism but should merely be added in the tally of "unrest".

However, if the poster's point was to make a distinction between domestic terrorism that has specific, definable political aspirations and international terrorism that appears to exist seperately from any logically definable political persuit, than THAT is certainly a point that could be argued, but if that IS what she was trying to do, then she failed when she refused to use the word "terrorism" when talking about the victims.

I, for one, am unwilling to allow the memories of those killed by bombs in Ireland to be victims of mere "unrest".

Good idea...meanlaureen...i'll head over to the debate board. Thanks.

OK, I was hoping this thing would go away on it's own, but obviously, some people are not happy unless they keep "stirring the pot". Seeing how you are talking about me and my comment about Ireland, I guess I will have to explain myself.

NO WHERE did I say that all the deaths over the years in Ireland do not count. :( In my opinion, (and keep in mind, it is only MY opinion!), there is no way to compare a country fighting amoung itself to a foreign country hijaking planes and killing thousands and thousands of people unexpectedly. I am in no way saying that the fighting in Ireland doesn't matter or that the deaths of so many innocents, on BOTH sides, is meaningless. It's just like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, they are both fruit, but that's where the similiarity ends. In this case, all violent actions are evil, but that's where that ends.

No will you PLEASE allow this thread to go away. If you have anything more to say to ME, please feel free to PM me. Throwing stones is no way to solve this. :mad:

always quiet - your quite wrong i'm sorry to say -- fighting just didn't happen in Ireland. There was murder in the UK - Germany - Spain - 3 IRA men are being tried in Colombia for helping the FARC Terrorists. I know its your opinion but at least get the facts right.

Where in the following statement say that? ;

Is this not what is going on in Ireland? To my knowledge terrorism there is still going on...

Stop putting words in people's mouths, if you don't like the kind of precautions we take here to avoid terrorist attacks, by all means you can stay where you are. BTW, I'm European from Spain, I am a victim of terrorism , and I know very well what I am talking about. There's not enough justice for terrorism, and I will take all the precautions I can get to prevent it, that's what our government is doing.

Oh good grief!! :rolleyes: Could some posters here please crawl back under the rock they came out of! :mad:

Always quiet, some people forgot where they came out of....:crazy:

You are not making any sense JJ....I think you are lost in your own little world and you don't know how to get back.
