Texting: Do you always have to have the last word?

I've noticed a strange phenomenon amongst teens and am wondering if it extends to others. When I send or even receive a text from any of my teen students, they ALWAYS have to have the last word. It's no wonder text bills are so sky high! My sister (35) doesn't do this and neither does my mother ( 60).

So, do you have to have the last text, be it a "Ok Thanks" "Bye!" or my favorite "LOL!"??

:surfweb:

No, I don't - and it bothers me when others continue to text when it's not necessary. LOL, K, things like that just keep on coming! Somethimes I think the other texter thinks they need to send a reply, when really the 'conversation' is finished and no more replies are needed.

I thought sure this was going to be about posters on the DIS... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Looking like another fun day..:thumbsup2

I think teens just like to text - regardless.. I've never texted myself, but I've watched other people do it and it seems they mostly use their thumbs.. Don't they get sore after awhile?? :confused3

my cousin's two kids always do that, too.

Hahahah!! Like when my hand used to get sore playing nintendo as a kid. All these teens gonna end up with carpal tunnel.

Carpal tunnel is no fun - I've had surgery on both hands in the past and now it's coming back in my dominant hand.. Ouch!

But - teens still live in that "it will never happen to me world" - and there's no way to convince them otherwise..:santa:

I dug out a text conversation from yesterday:

Me: Susie, lessons are cancelled tomorrow. Weather looks bad.

Susie: Ok thanks. Give Snookems a kiss for me (that's the horse she rides)

a few minutes go by...

Susie: Did you get my text?

Me: (sigh) Yes.

Susie: K...LOL!

That's pretty typical of the interactions I have via text with the kiddos. I asked one of the teens about it and she just looked blankly at me. She didn't even realize she did that.

My daughter does the same thing when she texts. My husband and I always tease her about it. One time we were in the car going to her school and she and I were texting and my husband and I (being the children that we are) purposefully kept the string going to see how long it took for her to give up. You know, her: K, me: Yeha, K. Bye then., her: bye, me: K. C U soon., her: K....... Needless to say, she just kept going and I finally gave up first. LOL. I made a valiant effort, though, to get in that last word.

LOL, good to know it's not just me. My daughter and her friends can go on INTERMINABLY... :rotfl:
