I can't verify the stats used in this are correct, but it's an interesting interactive map of "what's the likelihood of at least one person in a group of 10-10,000 has coronavirus" in every county in the US. Victoria county is in the top 10 counties in the country at even a group of 10. Yikes. Its from the University of Georgia.
That's cool. It's from Georgia Institute of Technology rather than the University of Georgia. But I like the perspective it gives. Even in groups of 10, Victoria county has a 79% of having at least one with covid in said group. Sometimes one looks at raw numbers and thinks well, I'm totally safe. Nope. Not really.

Fortunately our Governor reversed his decision and schools can continue with on-line distance learning as long as they deem necessary. Previously, he had said that if any school district didn't have face-to-face, in the classroom learning, within 3 weeks after starting the school year, they'd lose their state funding. A political action committee was formed, "Beat Abbott 2022", and Abbott just happened to see the light and let them continue with distance learning. The largest school district in our county quickly held an emergency meeting and announced they will continue to have distance learning, to be reviewed quarterly. I know there's a lot of controversy over this, my DGD's parents really struggled with this, but I feel it's the safest option for the kids right now.

Our numbers went down today and recoveries up. But I also know that could change tomorrow. Or Monday. But trying to be optimistic.

I just came from our local Wal-Mart and they now only have one open entrance with a security guy monitoring people. I bet this is because of the jerks who want to fuss and cry about wearing a mask.
All the essential stores in this area have been doing the one entrance thing for months. I haven't seen a security person, but an employee is generally at the door monitoring the number of people in the store, masks, etc... It was often a store manager in the beginning. When other stores started opening up (Kohl's for example) they did the same.

Wal-Mart around here always had a few entrances open until this week. They let the employees monitor during that time.

Our Krogers have pretty much let all of that slide now. Doors wide open and usually no one around. It surprises me but at least they take care inside the stores.

Our Walmart has been one entrance for months now. HEB has one entrance and a different exit. Initially it was unidirectional flow, with staff counting how many people were in the store. That lasted a couple weeks at most. Now you can only go out one door but you can go in the out as well. I have no idea what that is helping.

I am so fustrated with government..
Our son is getting married end of August.
They have deemed weddings a religious ceremony so 50 %capacity and everyone wear a mask. I really want the wedding to be postponed but they cant because the wedding venue said the law says it can take place so they can not change the date without loosing the $6000 deposit. They really cant afford to change it.. even though a lot of people wont/cant show up.

My brother already postponed his late October wedding. I would suggest they talk to the venue again about rebooking. The venue certainly doesn't want to be labeled as a COVID spreader on Yelp.
