As spring migration approached in Houston, two elderly vultures doubted they could make the trip North, so they decided to go by airplane. When they checked their baggage, the flight attendant noticed that they were each carrying a dead armadillo.

"Do you wish to check the armadillos through as luggage?" she asked.

"No, thanks," replied the vultures. "They're carrion."

Okay, I confess. I don't get it.

Focus on:
"No, thanks," replied the vultures. "They're carrion."

Carrion
(n.) The dead and putrefying body or flesh of an animal; flesh so corrupted as to be unfit for food.

Ah, c'mon you guys...

"No thanks, they're Carry-On..." (carrion)....

It wasnt THAT bad....

(besides, we see dead armadillos every day next to Hwy 59....)

I thought it was kind of cute! I'll have to tell my kids.

Seriously, though, I'm always amazed at the amount of wildlife in Texas. Last year we were out in the country near San Antonio early in the morning and saw a dead deer on the side of the road. It was covered with vultures having a feast! Just like being on safari in Africa....

Isn't TX wildlife the coolest? One of my favorite things in the summertime is to sit in the backyard in the evening and watch the redtail hawks and the Coopers' hawks soaring overhead.

Oh..and if you haven't yet gone to Austin in summer to watch the gazillion freetailed bats fly out from under that bridge in the evening...it's quite a spectacle and well worth the trip. :)

TOV,

The bats are incredible! We saw them last Easter which is still early in the season. We watched for about an hour and the bats were still coming out!!!! I can't imagine how long the "show" lasts in the summertime.

TX has a lot of urban wildlife. I love driving home from work and seeing the hawks, vultures, roadrunners, etc. And I do NOT live out in the country, either!
