Is Congress Park still the only area open? I read there are currently 4 buildings. We'd prefer a view of DTD and proximity to the walkway which takes you to Rainforest Cafe. (ok, I'll come clean... it's Ghirardelli's that I'm most concerned about.) Proximity to the bus stop would also be nice since we have 2 little ones. Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone know if the Hilton or Doubletree is a closer walk to SSR? (car rental purposes)

Yes, Congress Park is the only section open at this time. It is only four buildings but there are plenty of rooms. We stayed in the building that is farthest from the main buildings and the closest to the walkway. The bus stop was only a short walk and we had a great view of DD. Our studio villa was 1101. Keep in mind that the walkway to DD is closed from dusk to dawn but I'm not sure why. It may just be during the construction of the other parts of the property.

Even though it looks like a good distance from the main areas(theme pool, check-in, Artist's Palette, etc.) to Congress Park, it really is anice walk and not too far as it looks. Our kids walked it several times while we were there, but you can also ride the bus back to The Springs bus stop if you want to.

If you ask or request a room with a view of the quiet pool, you should also have a good view of DD.

Enjoy! We will definately be staying there again and are looking into buying an add on there.

Not sure which walkway you're talking about, or if this is new, but when we were at SSR in early Dec., the walkway from CP to DTD (the DM bus stop area) was never closed - once we walked back at midnight, just in time to see the PI fireworks.

There is a part of the walkway, that meanders through woods and is unlit, that's the part that's closed. If you walk along the railing, the path is well lit and opened all of the time.

There truely is not a bad location at Congress Park. The bus stop is centrally located to all 4 buildings. Building 4 is closer to Downtown Disney but the others are just minutes longer.

The Hilton is closer than the Doubletree as the Hilton is just across the corner from Downtown Disney.

any room should be fine.........the place is brand new???

Asking for a "good Room" is dangerours. You get your heart set on room SSS and then it is not avaiable.

When we stayed there in September we were in the end building which faces the DVC offices. We had a great view and watched fireworks from both Epcot and MK in the evening. There are two walkways to DTD. One is on the east and the other west. One walks along the water way from one of the end buildings out to the main road and over the bridge to the shopping district of DTD on the east side. The other walkway crosses the canal by the boat dock of SSR cuts through the woods and enters the large parking lot on the west side. (This is the one that is closed at night)

As previously stated there isn't really any bad room/view at Congress Park. Even from the farest room/building it is not far of a walk to the bus stop or over to the community center/main pool, restaurant.

The path on the east side that leads into DD at the DD bus stop and runs along the lake is open all the time. Midway on this path is another walkway that breaks off and leads to the parking lot of the far east building. This is the one that is not lit and is closed at night. Don't know anything about the west path.
