testing??? on TOT?

well I am in LA for business this pas week through next thursday. Today my cooworker and I went to DCA. while walking around I was looking up at TOT and saw the upper doors opening and closing. I am guessing no one was on it since there was NO SCREAMING

Another time I also saw a CM and another person walking on the stairs on the outside.

We did try walking over to see if they were doing any test rides, but we didn't see any

Yeah, they have been testing for awhile now. Some CM's have even started riding it. I wouldn't expect soft openings until the end of April or beginning of May.

Not to ask a silly question...

But what is a "soft" opening? Does this mean that they will open the ride to the public, but not advertise? We are going to be there in 2 weeks, and this is my DW and mine favorite ride from WDW, so I was really hoping to get a chance to ride this.

Yes soft opening are exactly that. They open the ride early but do not announce it to the general public.

If you are going before the 23rd of April, I wouldn't expect to ride it. There is a TOT "event" going on on the 23rd where people spend a lot of money to buy merchandise and ride the ride earlier than most people. I'm sure they don't want to make those big spenders angry by letting people on for free before them. Keep your fingers crossed, though. I could be totally wrong.

Yeah I was totally bummed when I saw when the event was. I was hoping for FREE AP previews during our visit. oh well. I am sure it will still be around in July 2005.

Had a CM confirm yesterday that there won't be any "soft openings" until after the 04/23 ToT event ... for the reason stated above, the purpose of the event is to let guests be the "first" to ride the ride, having "soft openings" defeats the purpose of the event ... but they'll probably have soft openings 04/24 through 05/04.

I also heard on mouseplanet that there will infact be "Free Previews" for those will Annual Passes, unfortunetly they are the same days as the Paid "Event"

The free preview for Annual Passholders is a day or so after the Paid Event.

AP preview for TOT will be April 26-28. I doubt there will be any soft opening to general public before that.

and a local radio station is have a "private party" at ToT on April 29th ... so I'm wondering if there'll be any soft openings before May 1st.
