hi everyone, so I finally actively started using tesco clubcard, was a nectar person for a long time, and I know I've read threads on the past where people have booked flights using points or park tickets etc. when I do the sums it seems I need to do about £30,000 of tesco shopping (very rough numbers lol) so is this true? or do you guys use special deals? can you please give me the lowdown on the best way to use clubcard points as a contribution to an Orlando holiday or in what ways you can? many thanks

I think the days of cracking deals are long gone. Quite a few people use their vouchers for airport hotels or for attraction tickets but I don't think flights are cheap using vouchers this way!

we converted ours into VA airmiles. They had an offer on where they were worth double and then they gave an extra 2000 miles just for doing it. So basically our flights this November just cost us the taxes. :)

I would never use them to pay for Virgin Holidays as they are far too expensive in the first instance. You can get a better deal DIY and use the Tesco vouchers for something else.

I use ours for our Hilton stay at the airport. Might get some miles for VA with them too.

Never used them for anything else though - sorry

I'm certainly no expert, but I intend to convert mine for Avios Points for BA Flights/upgrades. I know different people use them in different ways toward their holiday though.

We managed to turn are clubcard points into virgin air miles, when they had 50% extra miles offer and virgin also had a half the air miles offer going ie only 45000 instead of 90000 miles for a seat to Orlando watch for this around june time.

Hi welcome by the way:)

This is exactly what we did too..
At one point my husband was even picking up old receipts with no points on out of the trolly's and taking them to customer services to add on to our clubcard..I disowned him when he was doing that:rotfl:

thank you for your replies, looks like I will have to watch out for deals , when I've actually accumulated some proper points that is lol

Anyone know how often Tesco does offers on Virgin Airmiles? I missed the recent +50% offer

I just got my club card changed to Avios so we can collect air miles as we never end up using the vouchers they send through the post, plus I've changed my mums too!
My question is if I wanted to then use the points for the Hilton at the airport could you do this or does it have to be 1 or the other you collect for? I'm really not very good at the whole points thing but our local garage is a tesco extra and so I'm always either getting petrol or food items from there!! They recently started allowing points for petrol so that's when I thought I best change them for some thing I will use lol

No, you need to get the actual tesco coupons for the Hilton which then exchange for reward vouchers.

I just booked out summer stay and it cost me about £70 of tesco vouchers for a family room. The cheapest B&B price for that night was £200 ( the club card rate is always higher than the cheapest rate but as you get 3x voucher value is not too bad) so to me that's worth it.

Hi. We've not used our points this way but we do use them for a lot of other things (merlin annual passes for the entire family, Eurotunnel when we go to DLP or other European breaks, days out vouchers at home etc.). The best way we've found of collecting as many points as possible is to have a Tesco clubcard credit card, which we put as much of our expenses on as possible and then pay off in full every month, also pretty much always filling up at a Tesco petrol station, its amazing how quickly the points add up!

In past we have had a few free holidays with tesco club card but not to Florida. Our last on was 2011 P&O cruise to Norway. We have bought a whole set of Denby, restaurant meals, days out etc. desperate to use them inFlorida but can't seem to find anything that is worth the points. I am now saving for a another cruise :)

Hi, i go tesco for my shopping but i dont understand all the saving points to change in to virgin miles . I thought tesco sent money off vouchers out for clubcard points.

Thanks Sharon xx

Lol this is exactly what I thought too!
We never ended up using the money off vouchers, so that's why I called and changed to air miles!
Now I want to know what it is I need to be asking for so I can collect them for different rewards not just airmailed as I'm stuck! ??? I'd love to put ours towards hotel stay or merlons passes but have no idea what I'm met to be collecting?

When Tesco convert your points into money off vouchers you can use them for all sorts of things. Have a look here: Clubcard Rewards

You can get airmiles, UK theme park tickets, hotels. I recently got a family rail card.

This is what we tend to do - use the Clubcard Rewards for eating out (Pizza Express etc), tickets for attractions, and when we have been to London, virtually all of our sightseeing has been funded by Tesco!! We then put the money we would have spent into a bank account towards our Florida holiday, so that we have more flexibility rather than relying on the companies using Tesco to get us there.

With regard to exchanging your Tesco vouchers for Avios, I worked out some time ago that the 45,000 Avios you would need for a return flight to Florida (plus taxes!!) would need around £180 of vouchers. As that £180 can be worth up to £720 on some other rewards deals, it made sense for us to spend on these and then save the money as noted above.

If you do want to start collecting Avios for flights, there are also some Amex (and other) cards that give a bonus if you spend a certain amount within the first three months. I took out an Amex Gold Rewards card last year that gives points that can be turned into Avios (or other airline/hotel scheme) points. After spending £3,000 in three months (easily done as I was booking our hotels and flights for this year's holiday!!!) I got a 20,000 points bonus which I turned into 20,000 Avios.

One thing that I've just noticed is that you can exchange £50 of clubcard points for £150 voucher for use at Apartments4you. One of the properties they have on there is Wyndham Bonnet Creek and a dummy booking for October came out as £504 for a week. The same week booked through expedia was coming up at£943. Taking off the £150 would mean that you could get a week at Wyndham for £354.

some great ideas here, thanks guys! it's great how flexible they are I guess, I've given up on the idea of virgin air miles as its been pointed out elsewhere that flights for miles are rarely available in school holidays, so it's a waste of time for me. but a holiday elsewhere seems doable, with the discounts I could get. keep them coming anyway, really interesting :-)

Sadly the glory days of Tesco deals/clubcard points are no more.
Motorpoint put paid to that :)

We would never have tried Florida in 2009 if it was not for the £3,900 in deals that paid the entire Virgin Holiday :)

Oh those great days of spending £10 and walking out with 7,000 clubcard points. £70 = £280 in deals.
Paid to shop was the best forum for how to maximise points.

To rack up points the main way is get a Tesco credit card. Pay everything on it. Shopping, petrol especially can add points.
Look for special promotions that have points :)
