Our local station said AP is reporting the suspects were killed.

ABC *just* said it.

The hostage was freed, which is great news.

There is 3 dead hostages in the Kacher supermarket - according to sources they were dead before the assault was given.

May they like the other victims all Rest in Peace

and we have 4 others that are in a critical situation between life and death.

Apparently in the first siege the 2 brothers left their hostage safe and came out firing on the GIGN

I just saw this report. So sorry for the victims and their families. Prayers for all including those in critical condition.

So awful for the hostages in the supermarket, and for their families. My heart is breaking, yet again.

I do credit the French police with how well it seems that they handled these situations though. At least from initial reports, I really do not think it could have been better.

Agreed. They had a difficult situation two fold and had to deal with deadly terrorists. Very, very sad and scary.

I fear the same, Hadley. My husband went through the city just as the attacks were happening on his way to Orsay for a conference. He's in Paris proper tonight and tomorrow to do some sight seeing before heading back home tomorrow night. He says the city is crawling with police/CRS. They're well armed.

I'm clueless. CRS? GIGN? How do these translate into English? Do you know what they equate to in this US.

GIGN (French: Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale), is a special operations unit of the French Armed Forces

CRS (Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité) are the riot control forces and general reserve of the French National Police.

Gendarmes = Military Police; These are the guys with big guns you see at the train stations and airports. They also perform regular city policing duties such as traffic control.

France only very recently allowed municipalities to have police forces. Most of them do not. Nearly all police are National Police (civilian) or Gendarmes (military).

I am so sorry for the families of the hostages who were murdered by such senseless and cowardly people.

I give kudos to the French police and special forces for bringing a swift ending to the matter and not allowing the terrorists to gain more publicity or air time.
