With reports of casualties now...

I heard on our local news this morning they had 90,000 security forces in the area in dealing with the 2 suspects.
That HAS to be a mistake, right?
Minkydog - The two police officiers killed on the 7th were armed as are all National police - they carry as standard Sig Sauers Pro - but when you are faced with Kalashnikovs you might as well not be.
The trainee Municipal police woman who was killed yesterday morning was not armed but as she was shot in the back again by a Kalashnikov it wouldn't have changed anything.
Municipal police are generally not armed except in certain areas that are known to be "difficult". The Montrouge area where I used to work is not a difficult area and at 8.00 am when everyone is going to work it is the last thing you would expect to happen.

It's a bit more complicated than that right now.
They have been watching that hostage situation since 8.00 am local time.
Since 1.00 pm local time we have a second hostage situation as the person who shot the police woman yesterday is holding at least 5 people(women and children) hostage in a kacher/kosher supermarket in Paris.
This suspect knows the other ones so we have a unique situation with 2 sieges at the same time by linked indivuals.
I just heard 80K, so definitely in the same ballpark. I believe that includes military forces.
I can't shake the thought that this is so well coordinated that it might be planned to get a huge amount of force and focus on these situations to make it easier to have an even bigger and more horrific event happen elsewhere in the city perpetrated by even more people from the same group. I really, really, really hope not--but we are dealing with a level of evil and organization here that is of 9/11 levels and that is very frightening.
That is ridiculous. I hope there is no other crime today in Paris or surrounding areas.

There is 88,000 police, gendarmes and military mobilized right now all over France to look after the security of the French people and 9650 of these are in Paris and the surrounding region.
These are the numbers we are getting from the gouvernement sources.

I'm pretty sure they've got it covered. Please remember that the concept of law enforcement and its officers is different from the United States and other countries.

It sounds very similar to how our local law enforcement works. We've got town cops, county cops, state troopers and then federal.![]()

Well there's movement right now in the first situation as there is flares, smoke and automatic firing going on - It looks like the assault has been given.

Yeah...but France doesn't.![]()
