Terror Threat Back Up To Orange

The boy who cried wolf is coming to mind again.

I have not heard that yet, but I would think it would be a good idea. If we go to war, within the next 48 hours, it is more than justified.

I also think it's justified. Unfortunately.

I agree Glo!

I think this to be only reasonably given the current 'situation'.

having said that....I think it's important that folks know that Iraq is NO where near the terrorist 'expert' that Bin Laden's group is!

Since nothing had changed since before they raised the alert the last time, I imagine if we go to war, the code will be raised to red. :(

OK Here is my point.

I live in Nashville a decent size city. My friend lives in a city without a stop light!

Does anyone think the threat level is the same in her town is as big as mine? Or for that matter Nashville vs New York?

So why should she have the same threat level I do. She is already prepared to be without power. (If you live in a city without a stop light, you figure you are low on the power repair grid during winter storms).

Personally, they have already worn me out with these threats. I have not changed what I do as a result of the threats. I have NO duct tape and don't plan to buy any. If God wants me, he wants me.

The President said he has raised security at our airports, ports, and critical facilities. He said that it is very possible, but not inevitable that we will see terrorist attacks here.
He's giving Saddam and anybody else who wants out 48 hours to get out. After that, we could go in at any time.

If God wants me, he wants me.

yes Carol.......and God "knows" where to find each of us.

you raise good points....I don't think we'll go to "red"....unless of course Iraqis operations are sooo poor....as to let our op's detect their intentions ahead of time.

Frankly...I believe that 90% of the Iraqis military will lay down their arms without a fight....as....I believe that "joe six-pack" in Iraq....wants a life better than what now/formerly has been permitted them under Sodamm Insane's "guidance".

Carol, I agree with you somewhat. I work two miles from the center of Boston. The planes that land at Logan airport fly right over where I work. If I go outside I can see the tall buildings in Boston less than 2 miles away. I think that while there, I am at a bigger risk than if I was at home, which is 20 miles from Boston. The raised level to me means that we have to be more vigilant. I think it means for people to be prepared, because they really have no idea what is going to happen. If it is a chemical thing, they can fly over any area....I am hoping we do not get attacked again, but to be honest, I see it happening. I pray I am wrong, but I think that we will suffer losses here, and it scares me to death.

Will I change my routine? No, I have to go to work to support my children and my family. I have no choice, but I will be more vigilant about what happens around me. My children are 5 miles from me, and I have already set up a plan to get them out of the city area if need be. Yes, maybe it is silly, but better prepared than not.

I think 9/11 taught us one thing. We aren't as safe as we thought we were :(

Hugs to all the families here on the DIS that have family members defending our right to freedom over there. Hugs and God Bless you all.

I think they have been racheting up security all along. I was just on my deck with my dog and noticed the F16s patroling again at high altitude over Chicago and surrounding areas. I had not seen that since 9-11 and the weeks following.

It DOES begin to feel like the boy that call 'wolf' with this threat level fluctuation. BUT unfortunately I believe this is the REAL THING -- and it is being raised because we could be in a war of our own here at home. It is scary -- very scary -- but our new reality.

Over the weekend I read on CNN.com that they were considering adding levels within the colors. They would actually consider it a very high orange level once a decision for war was announced. They also talked like they were even considering a level of RED for us --- as the threat could be so high -- but they were afraid of the wide spread panic it could cause.

After the president spoke - Tom Brokaw was interviewing someone (sorry, the name slipped my mind) and he said that the threat level was being raised to orange but it was a very real threat this time and should be taken seriously. (gee, did that mean that I worried sick the last time and it shouldn't have been taken serious?).
:(

I don't want to think about any of this - my nephew is "over there" - as well as my best friends son-in-law.. I'm so afraid of what they may be exposed to..

To make matters worse, I'm about as certain as one can be that as soon as we make our initial attack "over there", something very bad is going to happen "over here"..

We have too many enemies and I can just envision all of them hitting us at once to cause mass confusion.. I hope I'm wrong but I think it's very likely..

If the threat level rises to RED, I for one will NOT be going to work - whether it costs me my job or not.. At a time like that I would want to be with my family - end of story...

I think vthey are doing what they can to keep us aware without telling too much.

Sure hope we donlt put them in a position to be D***ed if the do and D***ed if they don't

C.Ann...I'm with you. My kids keep asking me if I'm worried...Yes I am, because we are so close to a major power plant, the Canadien border and a very tall HSBC headquarters here (I can see it from the corner of my street and it is over a 15-20 minute drive from my house) I have phone numbers for all of my family...work and cell...plus my kids school in my purse at all times. My family is spread over the east coast...NYC, CT and Philly area. I went through 4 hours of hell on 9/11 because I had no idea if BIL and his wife were alive. BIL used to work Trade Center and sometimes stopped into his office there, I wasn't sure if SIL still woked inthat office or not. I NEVER want to go through that again! If we go to code red I will definately go into panic mode! Kids are home and so am I...I don't care if they fire me!

Nancy -
I don't believe you would be the only one in a panic mode. And that is what is scary ---- I'm afraid I would be too (in my own little way).

One thing I will do different ---- if there is a terror attack ANYWHERE in the US - I will immediately pick up my son from school! 9-11 I contemplated all day if I should go get him or not. He had to hear bits and pieces of what was going on at school - he should have been with me at that time -- not at school wondering exactly what was going on.
:(

I did like the comment that "this time it was a real threat' or something like that I heard on the radio this morning. However, the man then went on to say that they had no specific info.

So was last time just a drill! YEESH! I am starting to lose confidence it their ability to determine the threat zone and somehow giving them more levels does not give me more confidence.

Yep, I am pretty sure they have reason to be worried this time. I mean they just declared war on someone. While we in America have been very lucky in that the majority of wars have not dramatically touched the mainland US, other countries have had war fought on their lands and can tell you it is not fun. That is what happens when you declare war, people try to attack you too. My bet is on someone trying something. However, I am not possesed of a crystal ball and don't know what might happen so I will just go on with my life. I don't think a red level would really affect me. I think that the last orange level that went on FOREVER kind of numbed me to the entire thing. IF they were to say that they had reliable threat info for my town then maybe I would worry, but.... otherwise.
