I'm a new member here. I'd like to ask a question and make some statements about working for Disneyland. I hope this is the right category to post this in.

Recently, about early April, I was let go at Disneyland after being taken off my job during training. I've worked for Disneyland off and on since 2006 during the holiday or "peak" seasons, usually as a CR. This time I was hired as a CT, and didn't expect to be kept on after the spring break. So I was told by me supe/manager (who's name I won't post here), that they would recast me into a new job. But that they didn't know when. She said that she didn't think that position was the right one for me. I agreed, and said I'd be open to being "recasted" anywhere else in the park. She told me not to show up for the remaining shift that week, and that casting would call me.

next day I took a job that was part time, making even less money than disney pays (if you can believe that). I need to work, and I was hired. It's a permanent job and I've been there for almost 2 months.

A week later, my x disney manager called me saying she wanted me to come in and talk about my "recasting situation". I said "okay" and "when?" She said in a week at 6 p.m. I agreed. A week later, at 5 p.m. she called and terminated me over the phone. I was okay with it. she said something about the fact that I've also worked there before and this was the 3rd time. I am not sure what that had to do with anything, as they rehired me 3 times. The termination was all very cut and dry and no harsh words, I just said okay.

During the time that I was at Disney I was filling out and mailing in my EDD claim forms for my unemployment, I had filed previous to going back to Disneyland and was already receiving unemployment benefits. So upon being let go at Disney I had to write on my claim form that i was no longer working there.
So Disney claimed that I quit my job, saying I "walked off the job", and this isn't true. Why do they do this, lying about why someone is no longer working for them, after they let me go? When I tried calling my x-manager, she was no longer in that position.
They also mailed me a form in the mail a month later saying that I am terminated. I had to fax it to the EDD office last week. They asked for it. They also asked for the name and phone number of my x-manager, I gave it to them.
IT just seems that Disneyland has such a high turnover that they can't keep their hiring records up to date. And they automatically deny benefits to the employees who they terminate. To me, since this is supposed to be "the happiest place on earth", it's really the worst managed and had the highest turnover rate in the country.
My first day of training, I was told by the trainer that Disneyland has a 100% turnover rate! I used to really like Disneyland, and as lots of others, it holds good memories for me. But now I hate it. And what is worse is that I live so close to it, that every night I hear the fireworks loud and clear as a reminder of that experience.

I don't see a question in this?

I am moving this to our Community Board.

I have no words of widsom for you, but you are rationally emotional, and I am so sorry you are going through this

Appeal the decision to deny unemployment - with any records you have to back it up.. Certainly won't hurt to try..

Sorry this happened and left such a bad taste in your mouth..

When I tried calling my x-manager, she was no longer in that position.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

The x-manager may not just be "no longer in that position", she may have also been let go. Either way, I would think that much of the confusion stems from the boss moving on and someone else at Disney trying to make sense of it.

Best wishes for the new job. I understand (best I can) about hearing the "magic" but not being part of it. :sad1:

Companies do that so their unemployment insurance rates won't go up. Fight it; if you really were let go, Disney saying otherwise is cheating the system.

Yes this happens a lot. I will fight it if I need to, I still have to wait and see their decision. Hopefully I won't need to file an appeal, that will make things drag out much longer.:scared:

thanks for the reply to all who replied. I didn't expect replies so soon. thought I'd get told off. :lovestruc

How dare you complain about being unjustly terminated!! ;) Just kidding. Appeal. They will give you a hearing and someone from Disney will have to show up and dispute your claim. Keep all your paperwork, names, dates, etc. Good luck!

I don't know that I would be discussing this on a message board if you are going to fight Disney over this. They do read these boards.

It's not just Disney that terminates unjustly. But I understand that it IS Disneyland, and just seems wrong that they did this to you. Document, document, document. Try to reconstruct the dates you were told what, who you talked etc. You should appeal your denial for unemployment, but since you're now working at another job, I'm not sure what your next course of action should be.

Sorry this happened to you. I would also hate to hear the fireworks, knowing that they're coming from Disneyland.

Yeah, I used to like the sound of them, even when i worked there. Now, not so nice. And I did write stuff down as it happened. I had to go back and look at the days. they waited so long to send my paperwork. I thought it was all over, and then wham! I think I will hear next week as to whether I get my unemployment or not. And I have to wait until then. But EDD now has the termination letter that Disney sent me. The clerk at EDD on the phone today said that should be all that they need to clear it up.
And I have a lot of Disney pins that I loved so much, and some Disney clothes and stuff.

I don't know that I would be discussing this on a message board if you are going to fight Disney over this. They do read these boards.
I don't yet know if I lost my claim with EDD. As of today they "haven't reached a decision". But if i do need to appeal I will. And I don't even care if they read this. I could be one of 1,000 that they terminated last month.

In your post you said that you had already taken another job. How can you file for unemployment if your still working???

I think you are allowed to earn a certain amount of money.

This is the sad part, for me: I went on an interview for a new job (very part-time hours, 3 days a week) and they sent me on the same day for my physical. The doctor who does the physicals for this company is a huge disney fan, and had Disneyland pictures and memorabelia all over the doctor's office, hanging on all the walls, in all of the exam rooms.

When I arrived home, Disney called me to begin work. I'd been on a waiting list since November, to go back to Disneyland to work the spring break. So I agreed to start back to work at Disneyland, and called the new employer and told them I'd like to put that job on hold,(even though I'd just gone on the physical and passed it). so the other job said to call them when i was read to start work. I went to work for Disney instead. So when Disney let me go, i immediately called the other job and they were nice enough to put me to work, even though I put Disney ahead of them.

Even weirder, my manger is a retired Disney employee, who worked in the Studios in Burbank for a long long time. he knows how weird Disneyland is about laying off people.:scared1:

I'm sorry you have to go through this. It would be hurtful to be reminded of Disney every night with the fireworks.

Here is an update on my claim from working at Disneyland....I got my unemployment back? Today I got a call from the woman at EDD, asking me more questions about why I'd left my job at Disney a year ago! I left my job there a year ago because I received a job offer for more money, and I took the other job. so Disney was claiming that I "walked off the job", a year ago. But then they hired me back again this recent MArch too. And then let me go.:rolleyes1

So the EDD worker told me that she is issuing me checks for all of the weeks that I have not been paid from unemployment, because of Disneyland screwing with me.

thank you EDD!

Sorry this happened to you. Things like this are one of the reasons I am afraid to ever work for the mouse. I have heard of experiences like this (and yes I understand these things happen everywhere) but I would hate for that type of thing to ruin Disney for me.Good luck.

Here's the thing about Disneyland in regards to how they treat their employees. It's an awful company to work for;
There are a lot of disneyland employees who are homeless. I know this for a fact. I know of a woman who has worked for Disney who had been living in her car for about a year. She was completely loyal to her Disney job and still is. She showered at Disneyland and slept in her car. She's been an employee there for at least 10 years. She only recently found a roommate situation and is now living somewhere.

I know of people who are also homeless working at Disneyland. Just know that Disney does not care about its employees in the least. It's all about the "guests". It's an awful place to work. And I thank God that I am no longer there.

I am probably going to write them a letter.:sad2:

I don't think it's Disneylands place to find people a home. Not sure what being homeless has to do with Disneyland.
